I'm currently a Bastokian Elvaan male (large build) with long white hair, level 11 monk as of now.

I think I'm going to rebel against the crowd of subjob peeps and just stick with monk and see how far I can go with it. People seem to appreciate me in a party, and I do fair enough soloing.

I figure in a few more levels I can solo around the Valkurm Dunes, as I can solo right now in Konschtat. Most enemies in Konschtat are either Even Match or Tough/Incredibly Tough, true, but I can kill Mad Sheep 1-on-1 as it is. When I get to where I can solo a Tremor Ram, I'll move to Valkurm, I guess.

I really ought to go back to town and purchase some updated armor and maybe stock some items for once.

Ever since I created my character, I've been roaming around outside town levelling my character on the local monsters.

Perhaps I should pursue some quests in town, I hear you make a good bit of Gil that way, in spite of the fact many of them are quite time-consuming.

I'll take some screens of myself and the peeps I usually party up with and try to post them, soon.

Oh, and for those of you who may be on the Sylph server, my character name is Janos, and PlayOnline alias is Odin.

If you're a n00b like me and want someone to party up with, and you're in the Gustaberg area of Bastok, "/tell Janos" to get a hold of me and if I'm online I'll try to meet up with you.

Made the long-ass run back to Gustaberg and wandered around a bit (never did get familiar with the town when I first started playing). Bought a map for the San D'Oria area (finally, damn tired of walking blind in the Valkurm Dunes).

Saw the airships coming into port and taking off and such. That was cool as hell. I wonder how you get an airship pass?

Bought some new armor at the Auction House, which took up the rest of my gil. Going to have to get some quests done in town for some money, now. Thinking about trying the Siren's Tears quest, if I can get some info on which stream to go to for it.

I've got to get to a higher level, sucks having spent all this time in FFXI and still only a level 11 monk.... Keep getting busted back down by Tremor Rams attacking me while I'm resting and such.

The same sort of thing kept happening to me when I was level 7- except it was Yagudos that kept attacking me. Once I made it to level 8 though, I got up to level 9 in less then an hour. Craziness, I tell you.

Well, been a while since last update. But anyway:

Switched jobs to RDM, bought the low-level scrolls I needed to get started (had a decent amount of gil from all that time I spent slaughtering monsters as a monk, to no avail in terms of levelling), bought the best equipment I could find in the AH for my level and job, then set out and began to level.

In an insanely short time in comparison to the monk job later, I am now level 7 RDM, with my macros for my spells set up nicely. Even though the only spells I have at my disposal are Stone, Paralyze, Dia, Cure and Protect.

Being a Bastoker in Sylph is quite nice. I've also managed to build up some "unofficial" fame there as a "Mr. Freebie/Tour Guide" of sorts with the newbs that come along. I'm all the time being asked if I have any extra shell shields or if I can help them find this or that location or help run them to a friend in Valkurm who's going to lead them to Windy, or if I'm in Valkurm, lead them to Bastok.

It's amazing how rapidly I'm levelling this job, and I like the gameplay a whole lot more, mainly because I can do a hell of a lot more. My combat skill with sword and shield are progressing along so well it's unreal, and evasion is capped for my level constantly. I love it.

I think I'll run this until it's capped on levels, then go back and to BLM and cap it, then do the subjob quest and make BLM my RDM subjob... I think that will work out really well in terms of the damage I can wreak in battle.

Or I may just go and do that after I get RDM to lvl 25 and then go do the BLM thing. Then the subjob quest. I dunno.

...I think I'm finally addicted. :P

Now, if only I could get a decent graphics card so I can get all the cool weather effects I keep hearing about, and take screens and post them for you.

Heh, i see you're finally having (even more) fun. But, dude, you gotta do the subjob quest when you get to 18. Honestly, i wouldn't party with you at all if you didn't have a sujob past lv.20. =/

He's right, you'll have trouble getting parties if you don't get your subjob asap and on par with your main job. We're not kidding there. But I understand why you have said, it's simply because you haven't seen for yourself how incredibly useful a subjob is ;)

And, yeah, once you have gotten some experience, leveling new job is always easier. Leveling my Monk for subbing Warrior was easier and leveling my Paladin is a joke so far lol Heck, the night I became one , I raced levels 1 to 5 in 45 minutes.

Don't you worry about the subjob quest. You should get the crab apron and the damselfly worm for it without even trying, and when you're close to 18, just say something in the ls, and a couple of people will come help you with your skull. Shouldn't take long to get it at all.

One of the coolest things about rdm/blm is this thing called elemental seal that black mage gets at level 15. It's an ability you can use to increase the accuracy of your next spell, and it's really great to use for enfeebling spells. You'll have a lot of fun with it. ^^
