Thanks, jacksparrorw, much appreciated!

One question, though: this apparently is not the official Sony release, as listed her:

Hitchcock- Soundtrack details - SoundtrackCollector.com (http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/title/97025/Hitchcock)

According to the Cover you have posted, this must be the promo CD from the Academy of Motion Pictures, right?

Forgive me, but if it's the promo CD, it's not 24-bit.

Forgive me, but if it's the promo CD, it's not 24-bit.

I beg to differ, tangotreats. This is how mediainfo describes track 01:

Audio Format: FLAC
Format/Info: Free Lossless Audio Codec
Length: 41s 706ms
Bitrate-Mode: variable
Bitrate: 1 324 Kbps
Channels: 2
Sampling Rate: 44,1 KHz
BitDepth/String: 24 bits
Streaming Size: 6,58 MiB (100%)
Encoder Library used: libFLAC 1.2.1 (UTC 2007-09-17)

Now, I'm no expert in all these audio things, and I even don't know what 24 bits means, but all I see is what mediainfo tells me about this track. Maybe you can explain it for the layman. :)

Well, a CD is by physical definition a 16-bit medium.

May I ask how you ripped and encoded it? It's odd that Mediainfo thinks it's 24-bit; either it's lying or a dodgy conversion took place somewhere between ripping and encoding.

24-bit recordings have a higher dynamic range (ie, they can reproduce very quiet sounds more accurately) and therefore a lower overall level of noise.

I'm extremely grateful for the upload; I only bring this up to clarify issues... and because I know the attitude you'll get off some people around here if you say something is what it isn't? ("24 bit??? LIAR FAKE WTF BURN IN HELL!", etc, etc...)

:)

Oh yes, I also HATE it when people start to bitch around about things they don't agree upon. Why is it so hard to discuss something in a civilized manner?

Thanks for the technical input, even if it doesn't seem to explain the discrepancy here. But I have learned something again! :)
