Notes

The Man with the Golden Arm is one of the tensest and most intensified motion pictures ever filmed. The music, written by Elmer Bernstein, vividly reflects the tightness of the picture and expresses its tension in palpating and sometimes sinister jazz. Interpreted by an orchestra of the best jazz and symphonic instrumentalists of the Hollywood studios. This acclaimed Bernstein�s jazz-inclined score is a unique mixture of gentle woodwinds and screaming brass. Portions of it are in the nature of Symphonic extension of the music performed by Shorty Rogers and his Giants featuring Shelly Manne, which band is the nucleus of the 65-piece recording orchestra conducted by Elmer Bernstein, who pointed: �I want to give full credit to Shorty and Shelly for their contributions to this score. I not only used them as consultants, but gave them free rein in many places to inject their own ideas.�

You know, there have been few scores before The Man With The Golden Arm, that successfully integrated the music idioms of the Jazz to be played on a traditional orchestra (Alex North in A Streetcar Named Desire, for example), but here Elmer Bernstein created for the first(?) time, a score to use Jazz in its most "genuine" instrumentations as a music form used to the dramatic purposes of a movie.

It is all the more remarkable when a year later Bernstein composed The Ten Commandments, a score that in every aspect is totally different compared to The Man With The Golden Arm, and this still in an early stage of his career. I think that says a lot about the talent of Elmer Bernstein.
Much more evident now when the composers of today get stucked in one music signature, without attempting to take any creative evolution on their music.

For Youtube...I think Youtube maximum Bitrate are 256 ( for any Vids )...but I could make a Mistake....( yes if you convert them after...you can have what you wan but they not the real bitrate...I'm nearly sure of that...maximum bitrate at Youtube 256 )...and Google make a "campaign" of "killing those Softwares" where you can D/L the Music or the Vids From Youtube ( Youtube belong to Google ). So download quick the soft that Isaia send...won't stay long !!!
