I believe you can send them a money order. But I wouldn't know.

So far the only method is via Credit Card. :(

FOR :3 SAKES, ONLY FOUR DAYS AWAY FROM RELEASE AND THEY APPEARANTLY FIND OUT I WOULD HAVE TO USE THEIR CREDIT CARD TO PAY, EVEN THOUGH I KNOW I TOLD THEM BEFORE.

(edited by Typo for really really bad words ^^)

Unfortunately, no amount of F's will change the fact that yes, the only current payment method available is cc, nor will it convince your parents to change their minds. In fact, all those F's would just provoke a GM call and account bannage as a result. ;3

But I can understand why you're frustrated. Just don't forget that you're not the only one who may not be able to experience/own the game for this reason.

i had money down on it, only three days away from getting it, i also wanted the use of the hard drive, and the store i was getting it from mentions to my parents that in order to play the game, u need a credit card. he didn't mention anything else, like all the stuff u can do with the hdd. just pisses me off, cause now i may not get it. i waited three years!!!

If you can get a reason why you don't want your parents to let you use a credit card of theirs, I could probably help come up with an argument for you..

(ie "They don't trust Square" -> show them their privacy policy, I'm sure someone here is kind enough to find it :P)

I don't see any other use of the HDD actually... at least currently for what we have. I know there are games that save their data on the Harddrive and stuff but otherwise, outside of FFXI for the time being, nothing too special. :O

You might want to check this out, then.

Sure, right now it's the main thing it's used for, but SCEA has no plans to release the HDD other than with FFXI. So if you want the HDD, you have to get the bundle.

Just for the fact that it allows to upgrade the DVD Player to the newest version ( if you use it, that is ) and allows to never again have to worry about lack of space on your Memory Card (since you can copy your game saves from the Memory Card to the HDD in the browser, although you can't read it straight from the HDD), it's worth getting the HDD. Look at it this way :

For 120$ CAN, you have 3, maybe 4 Memory Cards that can store 8 MB each.

For the same price, you have one mega-sized, 40 GB "Memory Card", one month free of the year's biggest Online RPG, an upgrade of the DVD Player and god knows what future features. And let's not forget that, if someone created the Warp Pipe that allow you to play GameCube LAN games online, there's bound to be someone who will create an interesting program to make you have another great use of the HDD.

Therefore, it's not a bad deal, dare I say.

And as for the credit card payments, you never know, Sony has already released "pre-paid cards" for Everquest Online Adventures. It wouldn't surprise me if Square Enix would do it in a near future now that all versions of the game have been released.

There are places where you can buy gift cards that essentially work the same way as credit cards. You give them say.....$20, and they give you a card you can charge $20 worth of stuff on. I know Walgreens usually has them. That should work okay.

Yay, that pretty much works the same way than the pre-paid cards I saw at EBGames for Everquest a few months ago. Just check it out, there might already be another way for you. Ask around the video game retailers. I mean, the specialized ones, not the likes of Wal-Mart.

Stupid banks keep denying my credit card applications.

If I lived in America, i'd probably have no problem. Stupid good Australian banks :(

Can you get a debit card in Australia?

I've gotten approved for credit cards before, but I think generally it's pretty difficult here too.

I've got a debit card, but Playonline needs a MasterCard or Visa. How'd you get approved for a credit card working at Target?

My debit card is a Mastercard.

I got approved for a credit card before I started working at Target, actually. I canceled it before I moved in with Merl, though.

MasterCard offers debit cards?

That's it, i'm talking to my bank. They've got a few questions to answer >=(

You can always get a pre-paid credit card, you need at least 30 dollars to get one though (20 is what you keep, 10 is what you spend for activation)

Boy, it's been a while since I posted here..

Anyway, yes, debit cards do work, and yes you can get them in Australia ExS (I've seen them advertised at my local ANZ branch) but some people have had trouble on FFXI with brands other than Visa and Mastercard. The only problem is you have to keep a high enough balance in the account otherwise Square will cancel your subscription.

Still, it's the only option for payment for FFXI other than getting a pre-paid credit card (which I am very wary of doing..)
