1:One of my biggest issues, is anime.A lot of these anime games, if not most, are targeted to young teens.Wrpgs have more adult related content.
2:Burned out from the random encounters:I have grown to really enjoy real time combat, and touch type combat like grandia, or even fighting on screen instead.

I still like some games with random encounters, but they have to be done well. Some games do it in such a way, that it can be very disruptive.Suikoden 5 has moments where i get distracted with what i was doing because i would have an encounter every 2 steps, and i'd get frustrated. Its even worse if you can't run away, and the fights take forever.

My biggest issue, is the young teen targetted audience for me.As you get older, i find it harder to relate to young teens, because i find it childish, and i've seen some of the content before.

FFXIII is a little better than tales of vesperia, which has teens that sound like their balls haven't even dropped yet, or secret of mana.

Maybe there is nothing wrong with the genre, maybe i am simply getting too old, and from my experience i benefit more from books.
With this issue,it may mean retirement from the gaming scene.

Did you purposely sign up on a Final Fantasy Forum just to bash Final fantasy. If i recall correctly you have a post like this in almost every FF section..If what you are saying is true, then you must completely retire from video games entirely. and yes i worked on my english a little bit just for you hahaha...Good luck with that though, you probably just need to smoke a little reefer and then sit down an give them a chance.

I might, or i might look into just keeping only towards parasite eve if it remains mature.

No i'm not a hater, and haven't bashed ff in every page, i am stating that for some reason, some jrpgs i'm having trouble getting into them, and i think why, is because i am not into anime, and anime more towards young teens than adults. Some ff games do better than others.I had fun with dungeon siege, but that is real time.I also maybe just burned out.

Maybe I am growing older as well,Nostalgia Gamer, but I also enjoy all the old games.I find all the new games lacking of the idealism of the old ones.

I am very tempted to try FFXII.It is real time combat, and the characters seem light hearted, and not whiny at all.Even vaan seems like he's light hearted.I also like the idea of no random encounters, instead everything is fought in real time on the map.It also seems huge, so its a project that sounds very interesting.I do like turn based rpgs i really do, but i find that a lot of todays jrpgs are simply not catching my eye much, and ff series hasn't done so since FFXIII.I hear bad things about FFXIII-2, but FFXIII-2 seemed a little better, and FFXIII versus is delayed still.I wonder if versus will ever come out.parasite eve was one of my favorite series.I heard that the gameplay in third birthday is good, so maybe i'l give it a shot. After being a fan for years, it would be unfair to be unfaithful.I loved the change from fantasy, to modern era detectives in a city rpg with survival horror implements.
Its something completely new, and something beyond just saving the world.

if you have an x box 360 or a computer , try Lost odyssey !!!!!! main characters are more mature, but they do throw in 2 stupid little kids in you're party but in the end it all fits in nicely..
The main reason i bought it is right here..... produced by Hironobu Sakaguchi and soundtrack scored by none other than the great Nobuo Uematsu!!! I just want to get you back into the mode again

It's a hell of a bargain also...you can probably find it on half.com anywhere from 4-10 dollars

XIII-2 is better than XIII. By far. However, from what you said in the op it may still not be to your taste. The main character starts out quite whiney and immature, though she does a fair bit of character growth during the game. Definitely try XII though, the story is probably the most mature in all the Final Fantasy series, and the world is very vast with heaps of side missions to do and hidden places to find. I loved the gameplay in XII and wish they'd kept with it.

I actually think old ff's might have been slightly more mature in some ways, and lost odyssey is better than the recent ff games, especially:7,8, X and XIII.I found kaim more likeable than cloud and tidus, and i felt the dialogue didn't drag on too much like in other games.Did anyone feel this way about lost odyssey

Also:Here is some weirdness:Kaim reminds me of john heder in napoleon dynamite for some odd reason when he speaks.I found the villain a little clich though, but the characters are good.

I am looking for something different, but i don't know what it is.What i may be looking for, is sci fi rpgs, or survival horror rpgs.It may be that i simply have played so many fantasy jrpgs, that i am really used to them. The fact that kaim is older than a lot of other rpg characters, and so is most of the crew, is actually something that makes it easier to sympathize with. Some people argue that you need a young kid in order for teens to be able to relate to.I think it depends on how mature the game is, and how old the teens are.I used to find cecil and kain more mature than usual, and it was weird.I could have sworn he was in his 30s when i was a kid.I imagined this when i was 12-15, which i guess is kinda strange in itself.Characters like cyan are also relateable, as is auron. Its that having a girlfriend wife and having a good position that lead me to think that cecil was older, because usually, a person of more experience and or studies gains that better position, but not always.Cloud strife was in his 20's, and he never made it past being a grunt, while zach made it to first class.I think those who say you must have a child or teen characer to have young teens to relate to, is to underestimate the intelligence of a possible teenager.

I never really cared too much about the age of the characters during my 20+years as a gamer, probably because I determined what the characters did. Movies were a different story, rewatched Dark Crystal a few months ago and was pissed off at my younger self for ever being scared of parts in that movie. My complaint about some of the FF games is the 'girly-men' problem. Like the intro FMV for FF2, the 'Emperor' is an Empress as far as I'm concerned. And Lars in FFXII, I swear he's a girl too(at least in that case, I take it Lars is pre-pubescent, but still...). I still like alot of the games I did in my teens, like Earthbound and Secret of (Mana/Evermore). I play the same games over to try things differently if possible(like with all the side-quests/games the FF series has).

It has to do that young teens act in a certain way, and from experience, i really can't stand the immaturity of teens in a lot of scenarios. Its that rebellious i hate you mom phase, which is completely selfish and immature and irrational.I see it in some areas like teens acting like teens on youtube, and movies. If you also have more than 1, it becomes grating, especially under ages 15 acting that age.The ones between 16-18 still act like a dumbass, but its worse the younger they get.Its more interesting to me, if there is variation to that teen type personality. You can have a teen, but have a little more than the whining, because that whining itself is what is becoming clich and tiresome.

Huh. It's almost like they were... aimed at teenagers.

All joking aside, I think it's natural for some people to identify with broody, whiny characters because they see them as a validation of their own feelings--especially emotional rejection and misguided misanthropy. I get that you don't like that kind of style, but you're probably much older and more mature than the people who identify with emo-ish characters. So it's not for you. Squaresoft/Square-Enix is a business that wants to capitalize on teenage markets by appealing to common tropes (Japanese "cuteness," American "broodiness") and they do that with some success. I think I would say that I've outgrown that style and I understand that the games they make now are for a younger crowd than me. I'm 99% sure that they will never cater to my taste in the future. But I understand that, and I see these games for what they are, not for the overblown status they're usually given.

I think you can have interesting characters who are teenagers though and not be whiny and annoying. Its true though that the young young kids might relate to it, but maybe i might just go towards american rpgs then, since they tend to be more mature.I think developers have to be careful not to be insulting teenagers intelligence, because some modern day programs are dumbed down to its lowest denominator, because when i was a little kid, sure some shows were mindless junk food action, but we had some good shows. You don't have to always have the same stupid teenagers who do the same stupid things over and over in jrpgs. You can have something new like real problems.Look at squall for an example:He was a real problem and he's a teen. He's an introvert. An introvert http://giftedkids.about.com/od/glossary/g/introvert.htm.He simply isn't comfortable being with other people, and is afraid to share his thoughts. There is also real struggle has he questions himself in the way of responsibility.Seifer for an example is the complete opposite. He can't stand being alone and always has to have company, and is always talking and having fun and laughing.I know people like seifer(my father) who always have to be around people and can't stand being alone and have to win all the time.Characters like hope don't have anything at all.He is supposed to hate snow i get that, because snow caused the death of his mom and he is angry, but even in chapter 5 when you finally get to explore, its just plain stupid and he continues to be the same angsty asshole.

The difference is:Squall has a lot of responsibility put upon him at such young age, and like going to college, pressure is put upon him by giving squall a huge amount of responsibility on his shoulders. This kind of thing would certainly make a lot of people become stressed out with dealing with such massive responsibility as the commander.
