This first started some 2 years ago now with a friend sending me out-of-the-blue orchestra stems from the surround sound channels of a blu-ray he'd been able to clean using Cubase and a parametric equaliser. However, his process was very long and drawn out, and would often take him many hours just to clean up a few seconds of music.

Then a few months ago, I hear of a specialist company called Audionamix that exists to reverse engineer tracks where the original sessions no longer exist - Audio Removal, Source Separation, Dialogue Extraction (http://www.audionamix.com)

CASE STUDY - INCEPTION

Hans Zimmer needed Edith Piaf’s voice and the horn section from the song 'Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien' for the dream state transition scenes as well as separated stems for the surround mixing of the song. As this is an older recording, these elements were never available. Using Vocal Isolation, Instrument Isolation and Stem Creation services, Audionamix was able to provide legendary composer Hans Zimmer with the elements he needed for his audio masterpiece. The film received two Oscars for Best Achievement in Sound Editing and Best Achievement in Sound Mixing.

Unfortunately, Audionamix's extremely impressive services are only available to the copyright holders themselves - however, how long would it be before some commercially-developed software was released to the serious amateur to enable them to have a go at reverse engineering themselves?

Well, not long at all it would seem 'cos here it is!

Anyway, watch the above video demo/tutorial, download the trial version from Sony's web site and get to work on cleaning up your ripped audio files to get those holy grails you've been after for years!

Note - patience is a virtue as they say and the best results are always achieved by those who don't mind taking the time to learn the software properly as opposed to those who expect miracles to occur with a few initial clicks!

Me? Probably a good few months to a year even to learn it inside out, but at least I know the tracks I've wanted for years and years now are finally within my grasp!

Finally, let's keep this as a 'SpectraLayers Pro' discussions/help thread - as well as one to post some of our initial results in :-)

Finally, let's keep this as a 'SpectraLayers Pro' discussions/help thread -

Then you've posted in the wrong section, as this is the download section. Discussion threads go in General Discussion, and tutorials go in the tech assistance section. Anyway you slice it, you're just lost.
