A few years ago, my dad bought a device on ebay that hooks up to the back of the original Playstation. It can be used to watch all of a game's FMVs or to cheat. I enabled the cheats when I played FF7 and on disc 1, the part where Biggs falls off of the tower or platform in Sector 6 while Barrett's at the top fighting Shinra, I was given a decision whether I should bring Aeris or Tifa to help fight. Since it was my first time playing, I chose Tifa because she was at a higher level. About a year later, I replayed the game but without the device, my dad sold it in Yahoo auctions. I wasn't given a choice when I got up to the same part: the game automatically chooses Tifa. Has anyone encountered this before or know what happens next?

Um..first of all....what was this device that your dad equipped to your PS? Second, I know if you use certain Gameshark cheats it can make the game behave oddly but I have no idea why it would do what you said it did. Maybe you should provide some more info. Sorry for not being help though.

I'm not sure what it was. I was a newbie at that time so I didn't really care until I became a fan.

A modifier can't do that. You probably confused it for another part of the game, it's been a year after all.

I haven't confused it with another part of the game. I've played the game to death and I know that part isn't in it.

Well, then you can surely tell us which part it was and what exactly was different?

The part when Cloud tells Aeris to look after Wedge while he goes and helps Barret at the top of the pillar.
(Sorry, I meant to say Wedge instead of Biggs.)

U prolly used a 'Gameshark' or a 'Game Hunter' which attaches to a port on the back left-hand side(when looking at the ps1 from the back).

I'm certain it wasn't a Gameshark but I don't know about Game Hunter.

Sounds to me like Schwarzwind is full of crap. Only way that would work is by having the cheat "such and such character always in slot #" cheat active. And it never changed the storyline.

It's kind of like the old rumors behind the cheats where you had the Kalm Flashback sephiroth in your party. Yeah, I used those cheats once. But whenever you ran across a part of the game where the person in the second or third character slot was supposed to speak, it would make the game crash because Seph did not have any dialogue in the rest of the game on the part of playable character dialogue (probably also had to do with the fact that the Sephiroth and Vincent character files were shared in many aspects--that is, cheat values for the two addressed the same memory areas of the discs, depending on the cheat code.)...

Would've been cool as hell if there had been a cheat where you could gain the supernova spell in a materia, but that too was a rumor.

Seeing as how it's so many years after the release of the game, it's kind of pathetic to see this type of thing surface again...

EDIT: Cloud tells Aeris to look after MARLENE, not Wedge. Plus the fact that Tseng kidnaps Aeris during the fight with Reno at the top of the tower... Jeez, you could at least get some story points right.

I cant agree with these cheats even existing as it devalues the game yet i cannot believe effort would bemade so as a cheat would create a whole new story line its just crazy

first of all, Cloud tells Aeris to watch over Wedge, THEN Tifa cuts in and tells Aeris to go and take Marlene somewhere safe... just thought I'd say that...
