The show's pretty good, and some characters from the show do appear in the game and can help out etc. There was a competition to have your ingame character appear in the show... but mine wasn't selected >.<

I generally do not preorder games. The last two times I did that at a store, they would tell me they've already sold out first, then say that some horseshit went down, and they can't look up my preorder info or they would lie about selling out first, then giving me the "last copy" a few minutes later. The last game I preordered, Hyrule Warriors, this exact scenario went down, and I haven't done it since. Something similar happened with Pokemon X too.
Preordered Drakengard 3 last year and Pandora's Tower a year (or two?) before that on Amazon with no issues whatsoever. That's about all I can remember.
I will probably preorder Xenoblade Chronicles X and The new Zelda U or whatever it's called (probably New Legend of Zelda for Wii U, or some other bullshit Nintendo name, given their recent track record), but I hate preordering in general, so I'm limiting it to those two.

Well, I'm probably just unlucky, given that the only two times I preorder something in-person, they go and screw it up. That's not the main reason I hate preordering either. It's a cancer to the video game market, in my opinion, because now people habitually buy games before they're even released, without any knowledge of how good they're going to be. This allows broken or just crappy games to be profitable, which is very assbackwards in a supposedly free marketplace.

I recently got a 3DS that came with Super Marios Bros 2, but I got Legend of Zelda: a Link Between Worlds, Final Fantasy Theatrythym Curtain Call, and Bravely Default for it as well. I've already beaten ALBW and it was great. I've been playing through FF:CC which has been fun and nostalgic. I haven't gotten around to Bravely Default yet though.

Is it though? I agree that your example is valid, but the preordering I always hear about is for the latest AAA games, which are in no danger of selling out. For japan only games and such, then sure. But that's not what most people are talking about when they preorder, and I just don't see the point of preordering anything but the rarest of games.

Well, when Majora's Mask came out, they sold out of extra copies they had within a day or 2, so put it that way.

Actually, the only exception I've seen is Xenoblade Chronicles, which is a Nintendo game. That game had a limited production and got hyped out the ass by internet communities, so the price went up after it got sold out. (And rightfully so, because I feel that game was a steal at $50, but that's another story. Just sayin')

As for Majora's Mask, 1. It's a Zelda game. It will get restocked, and 2. It's just a remake. It's on the Wii Virtual Console for like $5.
The fact that these remakes sell so damn much really baffles me since a lot of the folks buying them are those who've already played them before.

I have a Milton Bradley Vectrex, NES, SNES, N64, NGC, Wii, Wii U, Master System, MegaDrive (Genesis), Mega-CD 2, Saturn, Dreamcast, PSX, PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One (Be picking up a new 360 and Xbone next month... my previous ones were stolen)...which all still work well.

Okay... I gave in and pre-ordered something online, but it's a limited edition of a game that's probably going to be really rare with very few copies made if its poor sales in Japan is any indication. It's called Rodea the Sky Soldier and it's for the Wii U (also 3DS).

It's an action game reminiscent of 3D Sonic and NiGHTS, with action platforming in a world set above the clouds. I've seen video of it and it looks like a lot of fun, but Nintendo is being Nintendo and not marketing or saying anything about the game in their Directs. It only sold about 2,000 copies so far in Japan (it was released April 2).
I'd like to see the game do well in the west when it arrives in September. The limited edition I had to get because it's only $15 more than the game by itself, and it's being distributed by NIS America, who offers great collector's items.

Since my last post, I also got Dragon Age Origins, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Resonance of Fate, and a PSP with Valkyrie Profile Lenneth. Today, I ordered Ys: Oath in Felghana, Ys Seven and a Sheik Amiibo from Amazon.

Bough IA/VT -COLORFUL- digital version almost the moment it was released... it's so good, better than Project Diva. Unlocked all songs (on Normal) and it took almost eight hours (the game has a bit over 60 songs + 4 DLC atm). And all songs are FULL VERSIONS!!! which is too awesome to say. There is even a song that is almost eight minutes long. Wohay! Too bad this game will never be localised, but hey, it happens. :D
