Hey everybody! It's Lamentizer. And I will be reviewing the Zelda series today. Please be aware that these are my opinions. If you disagree, then I'm sorry. In this review, I will be talking about the main series games, the manga, soundtracks, TV series, and other Zelda stuff. Some reviews here are very long, like Ocarina Of Time Ura. Usually due to the fact that I know so much about the topic. I'll be keeping track of the updates below. If I review something then later add more, then a letter will appear with the date.

Check the very bottom for a list of games that I renamed that really needed the name change.

If you have any questions, or just want to voice your opinion about something, the feel free to leave it in a post.

Note that there are things in here that could or could not spoil the games\manga\etc.

So with this said, lets begin.

For exclusive downloads (more coming every week - hopefully) see this page:

==============================

Main Series
The years shown are when they were released in America, not Japan.

1987: The Legend Of Zelda - This was the first video game ever made that could actually save your adventure. This game is probably the hardest because it doesn't use the standard "4-hits = -1 heart container" method. Well, not at first. Later when you get the Blue and Red Candles it does. A ton of the classic enemies are in this game Zora (originally called Zola's), Octoroks, Stalfos, Keese, you name it. Most video games have you do everything in order But with this game, you could do the dungeons in any order you wanted. One time I actually did the first few rooms of Death Mountain then went to Level 2, Level 3, then Level 1, and continues with Level 4 and up. Awesome, right? The world seems so big when you play the game, but as soon as you look at a map, you think that the world is the smallest one made. But exploring is just so fun. Every time you play, it feels like you're playing the game for the first time. Not to mention that the little 8-bit tunes make great ringtones. I just love 8-bit games. For this game being just so dang awesome, I'd give it 10 stars.

[stay tuned - more is coming soon:]

Characters
Here is where I review the different characters. For games that share the same characters, like Majora and Ocarina, I will post their names like Princess Ruto & Lulu. Then I will precede to talk about the 2 different characters.

Navi - Many fans just hate Navi because she's "annoying". Well to be honest, I love Navi. The only problem I have is that she says "watch out" after you get hit, she should say "watch out" before you get hit. That's the only problem I have. She actually tells you some pretty good information. People get annoyed because she always flashed her icon when you take too long from going from point a to point b, lets say you want to get a few Pieces of Heart and upgrades. When that happens, all I do is just ignore it. If I forget what I have to do next because sometimes that happens, especially after you learn Zelda's Lullaby. Most of the time I go to Goron City and find that I need to talk to Saria. So Navi comes in handy there. So I think that Navi is a great character.

Midna - Midna is probably my favorite character of all. She can be serious, sarcastic, sad, angry, or worried when ever she feels like it. She helps you out when you need to warp, change forms, target objects\enemies as a wolf. Midna ranked 3rd in a poll on a gaming site that was for the best video game companions. I wish I could remember the website, but that was months ago and it's not in my web-history anymore. Before finding out that she was the Twilight Princess, I thought that the title referred to Zelda. So it was a shock when I learned who the true Twilight Princess, it was a great shock. Midna could have returned in a game that takes place a few months or years after the game ended. But due to the ending, I'm not counting on it. Unless Miyamoto somehow finds a way to make a game where you have to gather the pieces of the Mirror Of Twilight again, and then go to the Twilight Realm. You find that it's been taken over by the evil forces of Zant, you need to rescue Midna. Then return to Hyrule only to find that while Link was gone, Ganon or some new bad guy has taken over the Castle and Link needs go through different dungeons all over Hyrule, then go to the Castle and save Zelda. If only that would happen... But anyway, Midna is awesomely awesome.

Manga

Majora's Mask - This manga is the best one. It adds more to the overall story than the game. By that I mean that the monkeys help Link rescue the Deku Princess, Goron Link battles Goht outside of Snowhead Temple and Goht falls off a cliff instead of being stoned to death, the Great Bay fisher man alerts Link that the Gerudo Pirates are nearby and you actually see Mikua trying to escape the Pirates with the Zora Eggs. The major thing that I like is how Deku Link and Anju have an encounter. In the original after you arrive in Clock Town, you have to find the Stray Fairy, get a Magic Meter, play hide-n-seek, get a Moon's Tear, trade it with that Business Scrub, and wait for the 3rd day to end. Those events turned into a manga would be pretty lame. I would be just like those "Zelda In Reality" YouTube videos where a guy is watching TV when Link enters, destroys all the flower pots in the house and then leaves. I like how in the manga Link arrives in Clock Town and thinks that it's strange to see a town very deep in the Lost Woods. The then bumps into King Zora and Ingo which further confuses Link. He's chase by a dog and is then saved by Anju. He's brought to the Stock Pot Inn and he learns that he's actually in Termina, Anju is engaged to a guy called Kafei. He learns about the Carnival Of Time and what it means. Then Skull Kid appears and declares that he is going to destroy Clock Town using the Moon. Now the manga for some reason really shortens up the Ikana sequence, which is sad because that's my most favorite area of Termina. It shows that Fierce Deity Link is extremely powerful. And after Majora is defeated, the rest of the ending is a little switched up. But overall, this manga is one that I've read almost 100 times, 98 times to be exact. I'm almost done reading it again. I would recommend this book for anybody who likes Zelda or manga in general. Here's a link to buy it: http://www.amazon.com/The-Legend-Zelda-Vol-Majoras/dp/1421523299/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1360000143&sr=8-4&keywords=majora%27s+mask. I believe it's cheaper online than at the stores, but I'll have to check my copy again just to make sure.

TV Series
Most Zelda fans hate the TV series that ran from September 8, 1989 to December 1, 1989. I find it quite entertaining. One of the few things that I hate about the show was how short it was, 15 minutes = 1 episode. They could have at least made it 20 minutes and I would have been happy. Most of the voice actors like Cyndy Preston (Zelda), Jonathan Potts (Link), Len Carlson (Ganon), Colin haussmann (The King) I've never heard of before. The show did introduce a new fairy: Spryte - was she Navi's long lost sister who was though to have died in a fire that overtook Kakariko? I really wish that they would have included Impa in the series and not have a Triforce that talks. The show does make good use of the Zelda Theme though. The jokes and puns go a little too far. Link says "well, excuuuuuse me, Princess" 29 times in just 13 episodes. That's about 2 or 3 times per episode, not counting when he says it during the opening. It does make good use of some of the items, like the Bow and Bombs. I totally want a magical pouch that magically shrinks whatever you put inside it! That would be so cool. You could be just like Marry Poppins! The ending, which is part of the whole Mario\Zelda TV deal is kind of catchy. If I was in charge of the whole project, the one thing I would do is have Ganon win in at least 6 episodes. Why? Well I could compare this idea to Star Wars. Out of the six original films, the evil forces win in 3 episodes (2, 3, and 5). The films would not be fun if the good guys won in every film. The same should have gone with the Zelda TV show. Ganon should have won a few times. Would the show be considered different it that happened? They should have waited to make the show after Link's Awakening, that way they could spend time making the first 4 games into the TV series. Wouldn't that have been awesome. Hmmm...... But with all this said, I like the series despite the receptive jokes and puns. I'd give it a 7\10 stars. Maybe some time in the future, a better TV show will be created that actually follow different events from the games.

Unreleased\Cancelled Games

The Legend of Zelda: Mystical Seed Of Courage - I was really bummed out when I heard that they were canceling this game. It was as if part of the Triforce was broken into billions of pieces and then was blown away by the wind never to be recovered ever again. Little is known about this game, only that Farore was the girl in need of help and the Book Of Secrets would somehow make an appearance. If this game was released, the name would have probably been changed to Oracle Of Secrets because the original name for Oracle Of Seasons was Mystical Seed Of Power, and the original title for Oracle Of Ages was Mystical Seed Of Wisdom. No gameplay footage or screenshots exist for this game, so it's hard to tell just how much of the game was created before it was canceled.

The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Ura - Another canceled game was Ocarina Of Time Ura. There has been many, many discussions about Ura and the unused Ocarina Of Time locations, like the "Unicorn Fountain", Wind, Ice, Light, and Sky Temples. Some day that the "Unicorn Fountain" is where you would get the Sword Beam and was originally in the Adult Zora's Domain. But the area is unreachable, without the use of glitches and cheats, because Zora's Domain is frozen over in the future and you can't dive deep enough as a child. I think that originally after you defeated the Water Temple, Zora's Domain would melt and you could choose to get the Sword Beam. Miyamoto said that he had to get rid of stuff due to the limitations of the N64. There seems to be evidence of this with Ganon's Tower trails. The Forest Medallion room is more wind based - like a Wind Temple, and the Water Medallion is more ice based - like an Ice Temple. So we could assume that original the Forest and Water Temples would have been Wind and Ice Temples. But wait! "What about the Ice Cavern?" Maybe the Ice Cavern is actually the Ice Temple, but shortened down to just a mini-dungeon and a few wolfos as the dungeon boss. Then there is the Sky and Light Temple. In early 1996, the Zelda team made the entire Zelda 1 first dungeon, The Eagle, into a 3D environment. This lead tons of fans to believe that the Triforce was obtainable in the game. People believed that it was the Light Temple where you could get the Triforce. The Sky Temple is an entire different story. In the Sacred Forest Meadow entrance, where you battle the wolfos, there is a hidden hole. In this hole, the walls look different from the other secret grottos. In the room, you fight a few enemies and the get a chest with a Rupee. Many fans believe that this was where the Sky Temple was. But wait! Why have a temple where you could early assess it as a child? And so close to another temple, the Forest Temple? And lastly, it's called the Sky Temple. Why would a "Sky" type of temple be under ground? That's just like saying that the Fire Temple is actually the Water Temple. But anyways, Ura was suppose to be an Ocarina Of Time with everything that was cut, restored. But due to the not-so-great-sales of the 64DD, the game was scrapped from production, even though the game was finishing production. As a result, there is no 64DD version of this game available to the public. Due to public demand for the completed game, however, parts of Ura were released on the Nintendo GameCube as The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Master Quest on a bonus disc for those who pre-ordered The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The game was not truly ported in the technical sense but merely running under emulation, so there were some noticeable inaccuracies in the presentation of both Ocarina of Time and Master Quest as they appeared on this disc. I think that Master Quest is part of the end result of Ura, the dungeons are harder that the original. I think that Miyamoto wanted harder dungeons, but feared that fans would not beat the them because of all the new features (Z-Target, 3 item equipped at a time, different tunics, etc.) But one very, very significant piece of evidence against it being Ura Zelda is that ROM rips of the game show the game to be the same number of Megabits in size as a standard Ocarina of Time ROM, whereas the original concept was to include content above and beyond what an N64 cartridge could possibly hold. It also did not really contain any of the promised additional enemies. Furthermore, if one looks into the compiled versions of both Master Quest and the original Ocarina of Time, all 64DD reference has been removed from Master Quest. So what do I think? I think that Master Quest is 40-50% of Ocarina Of Time Ura. I also think that Majora's Mask could have recycled some of the scrapped Ura content, Snowhead Temple could have been the Ice Temple, Woodfall Temple could have been the Wind Temple, and Stone Tower Temple could have been either the Sky or Light Temple - due to the fact that you're very high up after scaling the tower and the fact that you use the Mirror Shield to reflect light to certain objects. Maybe one day Nintendo will release Ura on a high-powered console, maybe the Wii U - if we're lucky. But not anytime soon. WAIT!!!!!! HOLD THE PHONE!!!!! What if Nintendo released Ura on the 50th Anniversary of Zelda?!?!?! Now I would defiantly get it then. But until then, we can only hope and wait.

Non-Canonical

Phillips CD-i - 1st off, I'd like to say that these games were fun, but the animation cut-scenes and dialogue was terrible! In the opening scene, the King, Zelda, and Link are talking about Ganon, the king says that's he's going away to help some some guy named Duke Onklet, or as I call him Lord Idontgiveacrap, in the land Gamelon. Impa says that the King will return safety after Zelda said that the King could be kidnapped. Then out of the blue, the King says "I wonder what's for dinner!" ... ... ... ... COME ON! You were just talking about how dangerous the journey could be and that you might never return and then you change it to a food discussion? Now lets talk about the controls. Like most games, you use the Control Pad (or Control Stick) to choose a temple, village, castle, whatever, to explore and do stuff in. You press Button 1 to use you sword and when your life is full you can shoot sword beams - Just like in the 1st 3 games. The one thing that I think is just plain stupid is that you use Button 2 to open a door. In almost all side-scrolling games, pressing up on the Control Pad will open a door. Pressing Control Pad up and to the right or left will let you jump. But in most side-scrolling games, pressing Control Pad up will also let you jump, providing you're not in front of a door. I feel like you actually go on a stabbing spree because you press Button 1 to talk, and that's the button for your sword. If I was programming the game, I would have blood gush out of the characters in the cut-scenes. Then at the end of each cut-scene, the characters would die from major loss of blood. So you're playing the games, you think "well, this game sucks. But at least it will have a good final boss battle!". Boy, were we wrong. Hey, remember in A Link To The Past where you had to hit Ganon 3 times with Light Arrows to vanquish? Well, you'd think something similar would happen in The Wand Of Gamelon. You know only the Wand will defeat Ganon, and as you're making your way through that final palace, you think "I'll have to hit Ganon 3 or 4 times, maybe even 5 or 6." But no! You hit him once and then the scene that plays is so historical! I almost crapped by self because it was so funny. "Oh, the chains. No! You haven't seen the last of me." You know, Ganon in A Link To The Past actually had a cool death: he turned white and vanished. The Ganon in Gamelon just gets sucked into the Magic Book Of Ineedtoshootmyself. The only good thing about these games are the music. It's pretty cool. The shopkeeper in Sakado just sounds like a creeper and a sex-addict. "Come into my store and we will have some fun. Oh, you want something that will suck the heat out of enemies? Well, suck on this and I'll give it to you, free of charge." So the overall score for these 3 games combined would be 1/10. The 1 point is because of the music.

Name Changes

I think that these new names are just perfect.

Link: The Faces Of Evil = Link: The Faces Of The Dark Side Of The Farce (yes, "Farce" not "Force")
Zelda: The Wand Of Gamelon = Zelda: The Stick Of Unmagically Lame Powers
Zelda's Adventure = Zelda's Adventure In Live-Action
[more will come soon]
