You can still D/L the 320 Version....

Yannis, its not because its taken from a CD and transferred to FLAC that the original material is lossless. Fact is when looking at these tracks through a spectral analyzer, most of the tracks are volume boosted and brickwalled, which means being cut off after a certain frequency. Which means you lose some data. So it is definitely lossy.

I have a real lossless version but its only 31 tracks.

If it is lossless, it will be the first true lossless version I have seen in 10 years! Every CD and download I have seen has been lossy sourced.

Hi baswisdom, and many thanks for your 31 tracks version ! :)

Your version (altough certainly not real lossless), is from far better quality than the 2CD version : you can easily notice that sound of 2CD version is very saturated/clipped

Compare the 2 tracks "Encounter" from both version , near 0'55 ....

Here a short wave analysis :

Track "02-Encouter" from 2CD version ==> completely clipped

Track "02-Encouter" from 31 tracks version ==> only very short parts are clipped

The quality is definitely better. Too bad it doesn't have "Final Countdown, Lost", the best song in the soundtrack.

...while I'm here..I wan to precise that I know exactly what Original or Lossless..is.., you can have an Original at 320 [ it's happen, you can buy Original CD, mostly Compilations, even at 256 Kbps !!! ]...and make a copy of it in WAV ...[ it's a kind of "renovation" just for have a COPY of the Original who was at .Cda, 320, 256 or any Bitrates or Format..., but you don't have the Original !!!...]
...you are with me...yes...so...
You always make "a rip" from .cda Format...( I was speaking of that with another Member here )...

You never have an Original by Download, my friends...Simple to understand...

[ YOU NEVER HAVE THE ORIGINAL IF YOU DON'T GO AND BUY THE CD AT YOUR CD SHOP, OR SOMEBODY BUY IT FOR YOU...etc. ]

All that for says that an Original CD could be recorded BY ANYONE, but it cost a CD for each recording ( And, Of course, recording From an Original Source, as Music that you have made and recorded - generally in Waw Format ) [ BUT NOT AS "SOURCE" AN ORIGINAL CD, you cannot stored .cda Format in your PC !!! ]

...or you listen what we call "Lossless"....
More and nice precisions here ==>
What is CDA? CDA Audio File Format Description (http://www.coolutils.com/Formats/CDA)

The day I post this...I didn't check...what's the point, I don't have the Original !!!...I just check the Bitrates as I do usually..

For Technician here I was think to Convert .CDA in .Iso [ it's to see ??? And then we could share an Original, yes but it cost you one (1) "Virtual Driver" by CD..ON YOUR "C:" ( a Fake CD-ROM DRIVER for be simple )
...But you can "Burn" it after have "mount" it on your "Virtual Driver", so it's really to see ??? [ I will try with a friend...]
CD Games are "shared" at .Iso Stantard all over the Web, why not Music...It's to try...[ But again I'm not sure AT ALL about the RESULT !!! ]
Certainly some have already try to do that "Manipulation"...I (ME) get lots of Musical Material in .ISO Format ( so it work for Wav - I'm 100% sure -...but does it work with .CDA ??? )
.

And a Nice Photo of my Place here...( I did not search a lot, but it's a nice one ;) )

---------- Post added at 04:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:34 PM ----------

And For Musicians: even .cda is a "copy" OF WHAT WE DO !!!

badwisdom
09-26-2013, 02:13 PM
Yannis, i think you missed the point. I was just saying that ripping from a CD does not guarantee that you have a lossless version. Your rip might be perfect but the source of that CD might not.

It has happened to me a few times to rip from a CD only to find out later that the source of that CD was lossy 128k mp3's !!!!

BTW, my post was full of mistakes, sorry about that

Yannis
09-26-2013, 02:20 PM
You see that's happen, exact...You can make .cda, I tall you it's easy with Microsoft...
...my post had nothing to do with an "offense by you", or something...it's just precision for All, that if we need an Original we need to buy it...just. not downloaded...
;)
.
That's the reason badwisdom, that you can: as you say truly...RIP and Original CD in .cda ( but made with a source at 128 kbps )..who is a Crap !!! [ We Never Sure Of the Quality...Just only If we "made" .cda, as I, for personal reason "do" .cda [ but even if I made .cda, I cannot Stored .cda, only on a new CD each time !!! ]
Or, you "nearly" sure...if it is an Official Release made by Firms ( Sony, Varese, etc...that you have to buy or listen in Lossless ) ]
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ___________________________________

That extrapolates to about 10 MB of data for every minute of stereo sound!

Crazy capacity isn't ???

Another Crazy thing. CD after sometimes, start to "degrade in Quality" [ alone without external manipulations ] and more fast than Vinyl if you don't touch it !!!
It is a Major Problem, for "Preservation" of our "Musical ( and not only Musical ) Heritage" !!!

Yannis
09-26-2013, 03:39 PM
OUT ==>

.
IN ==>

.
;)
.

And I Finish now, bizarrely "ORIGINAL DVDs" can be share by Download ( and the "Receiver" HAVE THE ORIGINAL DVD !!! ) [ But It's not the same kind of Codification used for the CD Audio ]
Just People for "gain" Spaces, encoded them in .avi, .mpeg, etc. or the Best for me .MKV ( but it's heavy ) !!!
Matroska - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matroska)

And, really for finish, for me the "Best Audio Compression" is .Ogg Vorbis !!!
Vorbis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vorbis)
But Musicians here...knows all that !!!!
.
