There's no score to the show...if anything, only VA songs used here and there, mainly when some of the characters are in a bar

There IS however, this:

I'll re-up them later when I have a chance

Thanks DAKoftheOTA

Hmmm .. pity such a good drama series hasn't got more of an original sound score to it

All the more reason no score makes it a better show. Sometimes no score works best - it heightens the mood. The same can be said about the Paranormal Activity franchise, Quarantine, and found footage films of that nature. A missing score is one of the things the show has going for it, in addition to the way it's shot.

Re-uploaded, enjoy. They're only 30 sec each, hope you knew that....

Thanks DAKoftheOTA :) Yeah your right about the show and no score, Southland is so good it doesn't really need it.

The main title is not an original score piece. I have the full piece it came from if interested. It may be "adapted", but it is not original composition. It is Cancao Do Mar (Song of the Sea).

Not really familiar with this show, but…

Southland is a television series which originally premiered on NBC and is currently shown on TNT. It is about Los Angeles and the lives of the LAPD officers who police it.

The theme song is a short, instrumental version of Dulce Pontes’ “Cano Do Mar.” Pontes is a Portuguese singer who performs pop, folk, and classical, and is usually regarded and credited as a world music artist.

“Cano do Mar” means song of the sea. It was originally part of Dulce Pontes 1996 release, Lgrimas (Tears), and also appeared on the soundtrack of the film Primal Fear. It was composed by Frederico de Brito and Ferrer Trindade.

Yes, I remember back when I was searching for it to download. All I wanted was the 30 sec that plays as the opening theme, but all I was able to find was the full song. It sounds very different, almost as if it's its own piece

That's because it iS it's own piece. The theme used for the show was a short instrumental adaptation of the original piece. It is not an original score by the composer.

Some composer named Matt Vowles is credited with one episode, on IMDB. Normally he does sound work for the series. Probably an episode needed a little scoring and and he was sitting there mixing sound and sia,d "Hey, I compose scores, by the way..."

Odd. I watch it regularly, and don't remember any score. Perhaps used as a source cue? That is one distinctive thing about the show, a very obvious lack of underscore in any scene.

See my posts - #2 & #4.

I've never heard so much as a single cue played as a score for the show. It's only ever VA songs.

I guess I may as well post this here:

I'm looking for whatever music that is that's playing in the background

maybe someday the fans will assemble an ost of the opening/closing & VA music etc ...
