Isnt asking someone who is posting rare scores, in order for you to claim them privately, then stating that this kinda of unconscience behavior being a little contradictory? I mean you never asked Scorepranos to stop sharing scores. Now someone else is championing Scorepranos and you do not like it? And you want him to stop so you can get more from this private sharing; Sorry to break it to you pal, but that is being a smidging bit Elitist, if you ask me! - As the guy said, he is getting these from Soulseek, which many users here are part of anyway!

The question of where the ss user got them from is not my concern. I can't speak to that. I just dl'ed and ran, as so many do. I expected most to be rips, but was surprised. No matter now, they're out. I have made my decision to post, and until an admin or mod says leaks cannot be posted, no one can say otherwise.

Allow me to tell you a tale.

I love Avatar: The Last Airbender. I came onto the scene only after the series ended, but it's become one of my favourite television shows ever. Like many people, I was a huge fan of the score, and have dedicated myself to obtaining as many pieces of music from the series as possible, via leaks, official releases, fan rips, and more. Through all of that, many months of searching, downloading, throwing out and compiling, I put together what I felt (and still feel) is the most complete set of music from the series as possible, while remaining 100% SFX free. While I always waited on bated breath for the possibility of new releases, I was happy with what I had.

Then news came out that a movie was in production.

I was ecstatic. Not just at the prospect of a film based on one of my favourite series, but at the prospect of even more incredible music that this amazing universe seems to offer in abundance. You may be thinking I was disappointed when I discovered that The Track Team wouldn't be doing the soundtrack to this film. Far from it. I was jumping for joy; James Newton Howard is probably my favourite composer, ever, and is responsible for many scores that I hold dear to me, including my No. 1 most listened to and favourite soundtrack of all time, (which I won't reveal here) an honour shared with only one other score (which I also won't reveal here). I was counting down the days.

I didn't go and see the film. Still haven't. I generally don't listen to reviews, liking to create my own opinion of one, but the sheer unbridled hate that almost every critic and movie-goer had for this film drove me away. I'm thankful for that. My hopes sunk. If the movie was this terrible, how could anything good be salvaged from it?

Silly me. I should've known better. One thing I will say for M. Night Shyamalan and James Newton Howard's collaborations: they almost always produce memorable scores. Plus, the quality of a movie should never be used to prejudice a score. After all, my other equal favourite score of all time also comes from a movie ripped to pieces by critics. I downloaded, and listened.

It didn't grab me at first. The lack of an obvious theme got to me, for a while. It took repeated listens to find the masterpiece hidden underneath. Now I understand. Now I appreciate it's choral beauty, it's alluring depth, it's masterful and precise use of every single section of the orchestra, even every instrument. Needless to say, it's now easily on my Top 10 list of scores. A modern marvel.

Like many people, I have a list, rattling somewhere in my head, of the scores I'd most love to see expanded or complete. This score is right at the top, along with another score (which, you guessed it, won't be revealed here) of those that I desperate wish upon a star for, to see more. Even after the release and discovery of many other scores, many of which I thoroughly enjoyed (including, of course, the music to Avatar's own sequel series, The Legend of Korra, which I've also had a lot of fun compiling music for) this always remained at the top of my list. I wanted more. I craved more. Now that moment is here.

How do I go about thanking someone who bought to light the one score I've been hoping to see ever since I came to be at this wonderful site? A like, a rep, 5 starring the post, a simple thank you? It doesn't seem enough, hence this boring story of mine. Although all I can give is a simple thank you, I hope you can understand just how deep this thank you is.

Thank you.

Just a guess...Lady in the Water? :D

Ohhhhhhh...close! Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed that score and hold it close to me. So glad an expanded version came out, remastered by the great SonicAdventure no less!

Actually, my favourite Howard score is one I rarely see people cite as their favourite by this particular fellow, but for some reason I absolutely love every minute of it. Now, if that got an expanded or complete release, I'd be over Olympus Mons with it, listening to it every step of the way.

How about you? Got a favourite Howard score?

Good to see you're still around, I was just worried that some of those fools might have gone too far with you via pm, like they have a few times before. I seem to remember this happening with someone here a while back that was posting a lot of this sort of material and must have gotten an insane amount of abuse via pm, except in his case it was people demanding things they just imagined he had. I can't remember who it was but basically he had a bit of a meltdown over it and (justifiably) lashed out and told everyone off. Fortunately they are and will hopefully remain the minority here. You seem to have inspired people to post quite a bit of this stuff themeselves, including amanda (did you used to be babydoll?) and sonic. It's situations like this that I wish I had something of the like to share but could just never put in the time to track anything down. Although I wonder if any of this is happening on usenet....

Yes, I was babydoll. I share what I have when I can. There are times when I can't, mostly when it comes to private shares from friends. But, really, that does not happen often.

I actually haven't listened to The Postman yet, but I hear it's somewhat similar to his other Costner work, the amazing Waterworld which, you guessed it, I'm very fond of. I'm not sure how close it is to The Postman, but there are definite similarities between Waterworld and Atlantis, which makes sense given the topic of each film. The Postman is definitely on my "to do" list, along with about 50 other scores, so I'll get around to it...someday...

Haven't listened to I Am Legend either (damn, what James Newton Howard fan am I?) but I did enjoy the movie. As to you not liking it, can I ask why? Did you see the 'superior' alternate ending on DVD?

You must listen to I Am Legend. The movie barely had 10 minutes of music, and the sessions has 90 minutes of it.

Lady in the water ;)

But a close second is probably Signs, I simply LOVE those Main Titles and Hand of Fate cues

But I also adore I Am Legend, King Kong, Unbreakable, Atlantis and his other animated scores...

Very agreeable choices, indeed!

I guess I've put it off long enough. My favourite James Newton Howard score, heck, my favourite score of all time is...

-leans closer-

...Treasure Planet.

Perhaps one of the signs that I know for sure that's it's my favourite score of all time is that I remember exactly where I was when I first heard it. It was more than four years ago on a family holiday up at a caravan park in the summer. I was by the pool, and had only had an iPod for a couple of months. I hadn't been interested in any kind of music at all up until that point, I didn't even use iTunes. I'd managed to see a couple of movies that summer, both new and old, that just so happened to have amazing soundtracks. Maybe if it weren't for me watching those movies I wouldn't be here right now, happy listening almost exclusively to film, game and television soundtracks. Or maybe my love for them was always there, just needing to be awakened.

Anyways, I was sitting under an umbrella on one of those plastic reclining chairs you see at resort pools. I had downloaded Treasure Planet and uploaded it to my iPod for the sake of having something new to listen to while I was away. I was planning to give it a quick five minute listen before getting into the pool. I listened to the whole thing. All 50 minutes of it. Than I went back to the start and listened to the whole thing, again. I think I went in the pool later but that music wasn't far from my mind. It had left an impact on me.

I didn't bring my iPod charger, so the fact I could only listen to it sparingly probably heightened my wonderment at the score. I'd listen ten minutes at a time, turn the iPod off for the day, and hum the themes while we were driving, or shopping, or swimming. On the way home I used up the last of my iPod's juice to listen to the whole thing one more time.

...To this day it's the only soundtrack that has never, ever left my iPod, iPhone or other listening device. It's the only soundtrack on my iTunes where every track is over one hundred listens.

I think I'll love this soundtrack forever.

Oh, and "The Launch" is my favourite track. It makes me "cry evry time". Well, maybe not every time. Three-quarters of the time? Yeah, that sounds about right.

tl;dr: James Newton Howard can have my babies.

I would also love to see complete Treasure Island, it's really awesome with one of the best swashbuckling themes ever!! I hope JNH returns to animation some day again, it's been too long since his trio of Disney scores (and Gnomeo and Juliet wasn't quite a comeback I wish for). It's a shame I don't even have Treasure Island in good quality (under 200 kbps mp3 probably) and CD was out of print last time I checked..:/
