When you stack materia of the same type, say fire and fire, what happens to the AP accrued?
Does the same amount go to both, as if you had just one of the materia?
Or does it get divided by the number of that materia?

AP goes to all materia equipped evenly (for instance, say you got 500 AP from a battle - all materia equipped to all three characters will each receive 500 AP. The only times AP rates are altered is if you have materia equipped into a piece of armour or weapon that has zero materia growth, double materia growth or triple materia growth. Zero is self explanatory - any materia equipped in such a weapon will not gain AP on it (most of the Ultimate Weapons are like this - except Aeris's one the Princess Guard).

Double and triple growth increase the amount of AP you gain by double or triple that amount (ala, 500 AP will be 1000 AP for the Double growth one and 1500 AP for the Triple one). They're very handy for levelling your materia especially to master it all.

Thanks for the info. I have to say the materia mechanics seem pretty damn complicated even if you have read the various guides.

I also forgot to ask about stacking two of the same kind. In addition to AP going to both, does that actualy power of the magic increase? I.e. when you cast fire, if you have 2 fire equipped, will the resultant fire attack be twice as powerful? Does this require them to be linked?

Hi neckbeardo. I agree with you about the complicated nature of the materia system. To answer your question, no, having two magic materia of the same type equipped or linked will not increase the power of the magic.

Enkidoh, you were slightly off.If you have multiple materias on, you get the same ap for all materias.It doesn't divide the ap between materias.

I didn't say anywhere in my post that AP is divided - I think you've misread my post Nostalgia. I said AP goes to all materia equipped evenly - that is, the same. I don't know where you got 'AP is divided between materia' from, but it wasn't from anything I said.
