For my 500th post I present to you Charlie Chaplin the composer.

Chaplin's role as a pioneering actor, comedian and film maker we know. Less well known is his work as a film composer. Although he could not read music, he worked very closely with music collaborators, singing ideas and giving advice about instrumentation. Matthew Sweet explores the importance of music in Chaplin's creative life and the crucial role it played in his films.

Still listenable in the UK until January 5 on BBC iPlayer - Music Feature: Chaplin and Music (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01pd3j4/Music_Feature_Chaplin_and_Music/).

Bonus:
The Chaplin Archive. Matthew Sweet travels to Switzerland to explore the vast archive of Chaplin's unfinished scripts, letters and press cuttings that document the extraordinary record of his genius. BBC Radio 4, February 2011. MP3-128.
