Thanks for this. I used to be a huge fan back in the day, conducting interviews with some of the creators of the show and had the world's largest memorabilia collection. The score stood out as being quite exemplary. TD actually did about 6.5 hrs of music for the show, most of it was never actually used as the show was intended to go on for at least another season. Various factors lent to the show being axed only after the magic 13 episodes, but it was absolutely nothing to do with "being a rip off." It always stood out on its own merits with tight, edgy scripts, good award winning camerawork, stunts, and strong leading characters. It was formulaic in that it was one of the last in the line of the "superhero vehicle" shows, and would have been broadcast a year earlier if the network exec's hadn't bumped it for another show. It should never be dismissed as being another Knight Rider. It may not have been as commercial, but in many ways it was better. It didn't have time to go "stale."

Thanks for the share, very interesting, but most of the music is not from Streethawk. About 80% of the tracks are simply re-titled tracks from other Tangerine Dream soundtracks and albums. Music from Thief, Risky Business, Firestarter, Flashpoint and others are included, plus some edited album tracks.

There are a few tracks of lower audio quality that may actually be from the series. The Streethawk theme and remix from TD are here, but most tracks aren't really from the actual series soundtrack.

However...it is a very creative and well thought out play order and plays very well lol. Thanks for the link !!

Are scores out there for all episodes? Episode 2 had some nice cues.

I agree with mprevette. Having eagerly downloaded and digested, I can see now this is not what it says it is. I imagined someone had cleverly captured the audio from the dvd set, but this is wrong. The soundtrack is very cleverly put together, but leaves out the obvious series voice-over intro, strangely. About half a dozen tracks are actually from Street Hawk, the others are indeed taken from other albums which have the same feel, and fan Julian Pilati's recreated music. As we'll never get a proper soundtrack because of a rights legal battle between Tangerine and Universal, this is certainly an impressive collection of tunes for any Street Hawk fan to feel proud of. It'll be in my player for some time to come.

As I've said, given that TD did several hours of recording time for the Street Hawk music, a lot was never used in the show, Universal are sitting on the holy grail of soundtracks, if it hasn't been recorded over! It was all bench marked for release but got pulled quickly, along with lines of proposed merchandise for the show. Despite only being on for 6 months, the amount of memorabilia generated was vast, and the show was very popular in the U.K and Europe, probably much more than in the U.S. It was set to be another Airwolf or Knight Rider, but the networks ballsed it all up. I talked at length with producer Burton Armus about it once.

They even prevented TD from releasing just the opening theme single, and jumped a loop hole placing it on their later Le Parc album, entitled L.A / Streethawk.
So I can't help thinking that TD might have recycled some of that unused music discretely in subsequent albums which is why some of the albums have a very SH sound.
So, just to reiterate, whilst the album here may not be totally truthful, there's no reason to assume it can't be SH music because it came later. I still want to see an album of cues from the actual episode however, as hard as that might be with all the sfx and audio overlayed.

I was told that when the studios were looking for a composer for the show there was an artists strike in L.A at the time, so the creators had to go to Europe for the music. Had there not been a strike we'd most likely have got scoring by Mike Post, Sly Levay, Stu Phillips or Don Peake etc. Whilst those composers are wonderful at what they do, TD's music is so unique and complex it's one of the things which really set it apart and gave the show a good foundation, even if the music was more memorable than the show itself.

We had to really fight for the dvd release. I started a petition years ago and lost faith about a year before they eventually released it. Now at least the show won't be forgotten.

It must be an album of cover versions, as the Cyrax Diffusions You Tube video channel also has a Jan Hammer cover of a Miami Vice track that bears no relation to any MV track I've heard. The Street Hawk end theme doesn't sound bad, but it's obviously not Tangerine Dream. No idea when this CD came out, if at all.
