Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (or a twin set with When Nature Calls)

TMNT 1990

Mortal Kombat 1995

Extended Edition of ET - I knw Steven tells people to watch the original 1982 version. I'm also very aware that not many like the CGI version of ET and it's been heavily criticized by a lot of people. But for the fact that the movie is longer, it deserves a blu ray release. I bought ET, but the blu ray turned out to be the original version. A bit disappointed with that, I shipped it back. I believe if the Extended Edition does get a blu ray release, the original version will be there too as an extra just like it is on the 20th Anniversary DVD. Maybe when it's 40th Anniversary, this will be done. I just like it cause it's longer and ET is in my top 5 when it comes to favorite movies which says a lot considering how many I have seen.

They should get the best blu ray treatment possible with as many cast members as they can get for the extra features.

Teeth (2007) - IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780622/)

Basically it's a movie about a girl with teeth in her vagina.

IMO it was okay but mostly forgettable.

Aren't the Potter series already on blu ray? Seems every movie got one and I think the first 6 were also in a boxed set. Video game movie generally don't do very well as many feel they don't follow the games much. Silent Hill is got one of the worst movie reviews ever which is why it's never really talked about these days. RE's one one of the best adaptations of a game which is why the the move series is still going. Never saw Woman In Black. Why would Elephant Man be impossible to be remastered and in color? It's A Wonderful Life which I believe was released originally before Elephant Man (a movie I also never saw) was released on blu ray in it's original black and white version, but also in color as well. I have them as it's a great movie IMO.

I wouldn't say all. Some movies don't deserve to be released at all. much on on DVD and even more less on blu ray. There's material that deserves to be released that isn't yet on dvd or blu ray for whatever reasons. And that's just movies. It goes for TV shows too. Then again, all movies/shows will have at least one or few people behind them so for them, it would be good to see a release I guess.

That's about right. Even on blu-ray some films are not displaying their true resolution because there is no de-facto standard to clone a film to its limits. So it's a case of get the best you can. Unfortunately this upgrading regimen has become a money spinner for the filmmakers.

On a side issue, sort of, some modern televisions can be a bit of a bummer in the way they 'blur', or have jerky motion due to the lack of proper frame rate controls. As far as I can tell, "24p smooth" is absolutely essential on the television and player - and a tv with a low refresh rate also. I've noticed some graphics cards having an option to alter the frame rate on the monitor, which can be quite handy for films running at 23.976 fps (which is most of them).

If I remember a report from earlier this year, 4k films have already been put on disc by Sony. This raises an interesting issue. Is it now 'essential' to upgrade to 4k from blu-ray, given that screen size and resolution is quite good at 1080p at 42"?

Also, they film companies are now using the new H.265 codec (replacing the 264) which is many times more efficient. Hopefully, this will be made available to Joe Public, which will then be able to squash its favourite films and videos in far less space on its netbooks/tabs/pads.

The director's edition is only on DVD.

WTF?!

Ok, but TMP has been on sale for a while. And thanks. I wasn't aware they didn't release the special edition in the box set. Bummer. I'm glad I didn't buy it.

From the web: "The Blu-ray contains only the 131-minute theatrical cut of the film. It does not include either the 143-minute TV version assembled in the early 1980s, or the 136-minute 'Director's Edition' that was released on DVD in 2001. Reportedly, the new visual effects added to the 'Director's Edition' were rendered only in standard-definition resolution at the time."

I'd like to see a new version with all the clips the tv version had. Reminds me of what they did to Repo Man. The tv version had been edited down for DVD (WTF?). One scene they removed is where Harry Dean Stanton smashes a phone box or a vending machine of some sort. Quite funny, as it comes down to my level.

Weird that the director's edition/special edition aren't on Blu considering every director's edition/special movie I remember seeing has been released on Blu.

The 2002 re-release of E.T. It's not a director's edition movie. But it can be thought of as a special edition, I suppose since the DVD the movie was contained in was sold at a limited quantity. It's on Blu along with the original version.

Director's cuts of T2 and Dark City are also on Blu. The Dark City blu and DVD also contains the theatrical version along with the director's cut.

So its weird that the ST: TMP director's edition isnt on Blu. Wonder why. Maybe in the future it will be. If you ask me, they should have just released that over the theatrical. And I say that for all director's cut/special edition/tv version movies as they're usually extended versions and are shown how the director originally intended over the theatrical versions.

It's coming either this year or next. I've not seen the DVD, but I did see the widescreen VHS special edition ages ago. I hope the new release is also the special edition in its entirety as the original release didn't make any sense at the end because all the important information with the alien interaction was cut.
