Hey Guys!

So Im planning to release some more Video Game Rips I have. But I had a question. For tracks that are looped in the game, how many times should they be looped in a rip? Ive seen upload their own rips where the tracks are looped twice, then faded, or some that are looped 3 -5 times before fading. Whats the proper number of loops before fading? Personally, I think it should be looped once, because I would get tired of hearing the same thing after 2 times.

What do you guys think?

Well, for my own personal game music rips that I've done I usually use official OST albums as a guide which tend to loop twice before fading out. That isn't always the case though - as an example Gulug Volcano ~ Millennium Version on the official FFIX OST CD album only loops once, but I presume that was just due to playing time limits set out for that album.

And yes, some tracks do become repetitive if looped twice, but usually I don't mind hearing it repeated once.

P.S. this should really be in General Video Game Music Discussion, not Questions and Feedback - this section is for help with problems with the site only.

I haven't heard those OST's, but I listened to the original Kingdom Hearts soundtrack not too long ago. On there, they only looped once before fading. To me that seems like the way to go to not cause repetitiveness. But I can understand why some people would enjoy more than 2 loops.

Ah, I didn't see that section.

it really depends on the song. The shorter the song, the more it should be looped. If a song is about 1 1/2 min. to 2 min., one loop should be enough. Songs that are long obviously shouldnt be looped at all. Just my opinion ;D

Tracks should play through twice (single loop) and then fade out on the third time around :)

Unless the track already has a fade out then leave it as is.

Thats exactly what I was thinking about doing. But then I started thinking about what Ryuji above you posted. It does make since and I might do that also. I do plan on uploading the original VGM streams if people dont like the way i loop the tracks.

One loop and then 13 second fadeout is what i used to do. For jingle tracks that are around 10-15 seconds i'd loop those 2 times or till they're over 30 seconds, having it fade out at the end of the loop instead of adding fadeout at the beginning of the next loop.

Thanks for that tip. I haven't ripped a game yet with tracks that short, but If (and when) I do, I might just use that technique.
