Composers: Masayuki Nagao, Hirofumi Murasaki, Morihiko Akiyama

Here is the OST for Shinobi III, recorded from the headphone jack of a Model 1 Genesis. (Technically from the line-outs of an attached Sega CD, but same thing.) The Genesis is an original model with "High Definition Graphics" above the cartridge slot, so there should be no distortion in the sound. Audio was captured using a Behringer U-Phono UFO202 and Audacity 2.0.1. Aside from some volume optimization, this is raw audio straight from an actual console, no emulation. Each looping track was allowed to play twice, then given a 10-second fade-out. Tracks are named and ordered according to the sound test mode:

01 He Runs 5:07
02 Ninja Soul 4:26
03 Shadows 2:25
04 Hassou! 1:33
05 Inner Darkside 4:51
06 Shinobi Walk 3:27
07 Rush And Beat 2:38
08 Storm Wind 0:10
09 Round Clear 0:05
10 Wabi 0:04
11 Sabi 0:04
12 Shinobi 0:54
13 Getsufu 0:27
14 Sakura 1:27
15 Idaten 2:30
16 Game Over 0:04
17 Japonesque 2:24
18 Solitary 1:47
19 Izayoi 2:56
20 My Dear D 1:55
21 Stage Clear 0:02
22 Trap Boogie 2:09
23 Mandara 2:08
24 Shadow Master 2:13
25 Ground Zero 2:19
26 Whirlwind 1:50

Total time: 49:55
Archive: 363 MB RAR w/recovery record, no password (Ninjas totally flip out and kill people who put passwords in their archives. Now ask yourself if you really want to do that.)

I have both Shadow Dancer and Revenge Of Shinobi. I'll probably be doing SD in the near future along with a couple of other titles, and I can put RoS on the list for later.

Goddamnit, how does Mediafire even know it's a split archive? And how were we supposed to know there were limits on them? This is your fault FFShrine. If you weren't down around this time yesterday, none of this would have happened!

I wouldn't bother because the soundtrack of all the Shinobi games (and Shadow Dancer) was released in a box called "Legend of Joe Mushashi: Shinobi Collection", which, in my opinion, sounded like real hardware recordings. The Streets of Rage trilogy music was also recently released with a high quality recording.
Anyway, you rips are excelent, so do what you like, of course :)

I haven't listened to the whole OST in Legend of Joe Mushashi but from the comparing I've done so far I prefer Goat's Shinobi III rip over it. And it definitely sounds better than the old recording I did from an emulator, the sounds are off on emulators but I didn't realize it after years of not playing the game on original hardware. Now I can finally hear it like it should be. Pure line recording by someone who knows what they are doing. Seriously awesome work, Goat keep it up. I would download your other Shinobi recordings.

The soundtrack sounds like it was edited or cleaned up, but this one is the real deal :)

You're right. it sounds a bit better than the official release now that I've listened.

You're right. it sounds a bit better than the official release now that I've listened.

While I haven't listened to this particular soundtrack, I know that a lot of the commercial ones have the audio cleaned up and mastered. A good example is the recent Bare Knuckle I/II OST. When I was ripping Streets Of Rage 2, I noticed that the official release was noticeably louder, and the high frequencies were much more prominent in the mix. I suspect some dynamic compression was performed to boost the volume (this might also have brought up the relative levels of the ordinarily quieter highs), and some EQ tweaking was likely done as well. This isn't necessarily bad, it sounds great on CD, but I admit I was a bit deflated when my from-the-source rip sounded kind of sad by comparison. After some thought, I decided that my point in doing this was to preserve the "natural" sound of the original hardware, imperfections and all. It's not emulation or studio trickery, I want someone to listen to these files and know this is what a Sega Genesis sounds like. The Goat believes in keeping it real. ;)

Fortunately, Shinobi III has a naturally loud, punchy sound and decent digital samples. Even I was surprised at how well it turned out.

That is what is *MOST* important -- To sound just like how it sounded back when we played the game as kids :):)

Wouldn't want it any other way ^_^

Isn't the 13th track called Getufu (and not Getsufu) ? I checked my PAL rom and the album (http://vgmdb.net/album/14143) and it said the former. Anyway thanks again !
