Look at the company as a whole from as early as you can remember to now and think about if there's anything you would have done differently, why or why not?

I'll go first...

I would not have merged with Enix. Enix, in the short term, had great things to offer in the way of graphical capabilities but I would have sacrificed graphics for another year to maintain the original Final Fantasy spirit. Pre-Enix Final Fantasies all seem to have a more light-hearted air to them while at the same time being forever entwined in one spectacular story after another. When Enix merged at FFX it just wasn't the same for me. I don't think I've seen a FF game since Enix merged that had a monk class, which has always been my favorite class. FFXIII had a fist fighter but he wasn't a monk - he was a custom class. Don't get me wrong, custom classes are great, but it takes away from the unique feel of individual characters. That's just a couple things I miss about the old series, we could talk all day just about things of old that would be great to have...

As a side note, I also would have kept the company in the family which I think was Executive Produce (haha) Hironobou Sakaguchi's original intention but I can't remember if I actually read that somewhere or if it was a rumor I heard so forgive me if this is false information please.

Kitty would change one thing;
Turn based system. She hates it and everything to do with it. So if Kitty would change anything - Final Fantasy would have been an active system from the git-go.

What about you? What would you have done differently?

Well, firstly, FFXI was the last Squaresoft developed FF title before the merger (and that features Monk as a starting Job). Monk has also appeared after the merger in a number of titles - in the spin-off Ivalice-related FF Tactics Advance titles, and Monk was recently added as an upgrade to the 'Pugilist' starting class in FFXIV in a patch earlier this year. So yeah, the Job system and it's related traditional Job classes are still showing up in new FF games. :)

But yeah, I would have retained Sakaguchi, and then fired that hack Tetsuya Nomura - if he wants to draw fetish clothing he should get a job at a BDSM fashion house or something and not design video games. :p

Finally, I would have also insisted on FFXIV being kept in alpha and beta for an extended period to ensure all it's faults were fixed before launch, unlike what happened in real life.

I havent played XIV because I've been told it's a subscription based game and really I just can't afford it.. I wish I could.. I like free to play games because when I can afford to buy something I do... I also feel like anything past $60/year is overkill unless the game is doing weekly or bi-weekly content updates. If I were rich I'd do it but as it stands...

Final Fantasy Tactics was started long before the merger, tactics advanced is tactics with added content. Removing content would have been counter productive.
I'm happy to hear Monk was added to FFXIV but it was not in the original release which leads me to believe it was not originally planned leaving one to conclude it was a PR decision rather than a SE decision.

Completely agree about the clothing... It's getting to the point I'm afraid to play the games in front of family for some of them...

You know why I think Squenix is being such a cunt? COUNTDOWNS...

I mean the best game to come out of one of these was FF 4 Warriors of Light. They just build up a whole drama with these countdowns only to come out with games far below expectations...

The World Ends With You's countdown -> Just an iOS version of the game... (not to mention it's been a long time since they are doing this)

Add Motomu Toriyama to that list.

I also would have kept the company in the family.
