Enjoy my friends. Let this be known, more scores should get treatment like this, no, EVERY SCORE. Yes, buy it if you can please, but I figured I'd put a stop to all those "POST THE HOBBIT SCORE" and then the regular version is posted and you'd hear the "WE WANT THE COMPLETE THING GRAHHHH" people. As you can tell, I've made record time by preventing all of that 4 days in advanced :p

I've noticed that too when importing link into JDownloader.
"[]" shows up in the name. I think JDownloader automatically renamed it to a Windows-legal character.

Implying uploader is not on Windows.

7zip will automatically convert illegal Windows characters, it's also free if people don't have WinRAR.

Thank you very much for this edition in FLAC!

But the uploader shouldn't use the movie title or the composer's name in the file name because if you do so, the uploading site can easily spot the file and delete it for "copyright infrigment". If you use a neutral name or a code name (for exemple "HS-THAUJ.zip" instead of "howard_shore_the_hobbitan_unexpected_journey_speci al_edition_2012_9b6a2") , the true nature of the file can't be found by its name by the uploading site.

Track one plays cleanly for me.
Also shows up as clean on Adobe Audition in the spectral frequency display.

Perhaps your media player is suffering from latency and buffering issues.
Try closing your media player and restarting the music, also see about increasing the buffer length by a second.

It might also depend if you're CPU is overworking itself.
Is your CPU a single-core/single-thread processor? Often if you're a single-core machine having multiple programs can eventually lead to playback issues with audio/video programs.

If the media player still acts up after restarting the program, try reseting your system.
It might be the sound card having issues.

Track 1: first 38 seconds.

Spectrum doesn't show lossy compression artefacts.

By the way. It's seems not to be complete if anyone is curious, there are cues in the movie missing.

So who knows, maybe we'll get more music in the future in a "Complete Recordings" or get the extras with The Music of the Hobbit book.

I don't believe it's much music missing though because this is long and awesome for the first movie.

This is not a complaint, just a minor correction. Don't get me wrong, we're super lucky to have this much music this soon, but there's no way this is complete. There was an additional scoring session just a couple weeks before release and long after the cd's contents were announced. Doug Adams had previously implied this was the complete score, but it's probably something more like "the complete score, draft 1."

Anyway, I am very grateful for this thread and for the flac, keep up the good work!!

Hence complete score for FILM :p This sounds like it could be a loop, and does not sound like it is howard shore but merely an inspiration of. This is an airline ad, the money alone to get the cast of the hobbit must have already been expensive enough! xD Most music that cannot be found on this release is also possibly tracked in music from the previous 3 scores. So before saying "IM MISSING MUSIC" listen to the other LOTR scores before whining. I know, its nearly 10 hour of music (11 if you add the book's extra stuff) and would take a while to prove me wrong, if I am. There's my master plan mawhawhaw (jokes :p) but yes, when I see this I will either be proven right, or wrong. No need to argue at all :p

I'm actually quite pleased with the soundtrack.

Although there is a lot of hints of Hugo in it.
I thought it would largely be mellow content with no real sense of adventure or action in it.
Like it's purely a political soundtrack since the movie is now a trilogy.

It surprised me in a lot of tracks.

Well i'm gonna see the movie saturday and sooner or later many of us will see it too, so i guess everyone is waiting to hear the score only after watching the movie ;)
A movie that is getting mixed reviews though!

Anyway i couldn't resist to at least listen the first track, and i could identify some themes from the Lord of the Rings scores, so here it goes:

The album opens with a melody much like the one that opens the Return of the King (could this means the movie starts with a smeagol scene?), and segues to the 'Journey Back Again' theme at 0:40 and to 'The Shire' theme on 0:53.

At around 3:24 i think that is an altered variation of the 'Seduction of the Ring' theme but changed from a boys chorus of the LOTR to a female chorus here, and which follows the male chorus of the 'Moria' theme at 3:37.

The 'Mordor' theme also appears on this track. You can spot it a variance of this theme starting at 4:19 repeated again around 5:00. Curious that between them, at 4:39, the choir chants the opening phrase that is very identical of a segment on the track 'The Prophecy (http://youtu.be/tVV7ijh01jo#t=1m27s)' from the Fellowship of the Ring original soundtrack album.

The track ends, with i think is one of the Hobbit accompanimets figures, at 7:26

That's all for now. Don't get me started to listen the whole score :-P

bollemanneke, You're sure the piece you're looking for isn't in the Standard Edition of "Roast Mutton?" That track is entirely different from the version on the Special Edition and it DOES have a brassy statement of the Misty Mountain motif. It's not that I don't believe you, it's just that I haven't seen the movie yet and I want to be absolutely sure of which pieces are missing and worth obtaining.

It's amazing, I hoe you'll like it! I posted a request for the recording sessoins for which people are now shooting me on this forum, apparently it's a crime asking to let mee know via pm when someone has it...

Right, the asshole will reformulate his question.

Could anyone who would have access to the sessions please send me a pm or share them publicly?

Better? I didn't mean to come over like an asshole, so sorry...
And it's not the full score at all on Amazon, because the most epic cue, the brass band version of Misty MOuntains, the whole point of this score, is missing...

This IS the Full, complete score as Howard Shore originally intended, and as originally recorded. This doesn't take into account the re-recordings that happening after cuts to the film were made. THOSE are not included, it's highly likely that the cue you're referring to was part of the new recordings. The flute melody playing The Shire theme when the actual "The Hobbit" title fades in is supposed to be "My Dear Frodo" but it's not. There was a series of Re-Recordings after the movie was recut, in fact there's a lot of the original recordings that went unused in favor of tracked or re-recorded material lord of the rings. So, the 2 CD release is the Complete ORIGINAL Recordings as Howard Shore originally intended

Uh, I only called myself an asshole because someone CALLED me an asshole for requesting the sessions... And thanks for telling me that, but it's just... you know... leaving the cue I'm referring to out, would be like releasing a HP score without hedwigs's theme, or a POTC score without the main theme. It plays five times or more in the movie and it's not even there! Maybe it is part of the post-production recordings, but it's so magnificent and damn stupid not to include it on the album. I mean, isn't a special edition supposed to include special things...? It wasn't even available as a bonus track. When I came out of the theatre, I only thought one thing: I HAVE to listen to this cue later, and then I find it's missing...

Yeah, that cue is one of the best!

Well, the theme itself IS on both albums, 4 times I believe, even included the version that was in the trailer (which was already part of the score anyways), just not the version referring to, so technically it'd be like Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets having Hedwig's Theme but leaving out the cue "Reunion Of Friends", that'd be a proper analogy

Okay, you have a point. But have you seen the movie already? Because then you'll notice that in the places in the movie I referred to earlier, the brass band plays the cue in a very powerful way, awheeas the album version is very weak, as though someone is threatening the band not to play on full blast. :D

Oh yeah i've seen it twice, and I know what you're referring to, but i'm sure it was part of the additional recordings that was made, alone with the flue overlay i'm dying to have

Yes well, just a piece of advice, don't request the sessions here because some members reacted in an insane way to it, mocking me and asking why I didn't request the sessions for part two and three at once. What's wrong with this place, can anyone tell me please?

This place or these people has nothing wrong. The thing is that (in MY opinion) the people around here has learned, that YOU HAVE TO BE PATIENT. Score geek collectors/listeners are still waiting for his last year favourite movie to have an extended version, or waiting for the DVD/BR to be released and rip some more music, ... or still waiting for Titanic's recording sessions! Because recording sessions leaks when they leaks, specially with these huge commercial movies (with an independent or smaller movies maybe you have luck writing to the composer...). It might be tomorrow or in 38 years from now, or never.
So your reaction, asking for a recording sessions on the day the film came out seems (again TO ME) more like a little baby asking for a candy, a trip in a rollercoaster and a ticket for a porn movie at the same: don't matter how loud you cry, you're not gonna get it.

Some have speculated that they're unused theme arrangements, but if they are in the movie, I don't think anyone knows where they fit yet.
So, now that the movie is out, about this...ending credit music (after the song)?

I don't remember that Erebor track in the movie at all, but i could be wrong because i'm not the kind to memorize at the first viewing music from scenes when i'm totally immerse in a movie.

If it's not really in the movie it could be from a deleted scene, or maybe it is a bonus track from one of next movies, since they will take place much time on Erebor.

Just went to see the movie. Is it possible that the coolest reprise of the wraith theme from LOTR is not on the soundtrack. At the end one of the main characters walks in slow motion to his pale enemy. Can't seem to find that cue on the OST. Or am I missing something? :)

The score had various versions written and recorded, so that Jackson could pick the ones he wanted for the film, and Shore could pick the ones he wanted for the Album

Thanks a lot for sharing these flacs! Just saw the film and it was, once again, great! Loved it. Interesting read about the different cues and all. I once believed that film soundtracks were a 100% true representation of all the music used in the film. Oh, how naive I was those days!

Yes! Having just seen the film (finally!!!) this past Monday evening, I was REALLY looking forward to hearing this cue on my way home from the cinema. NOPE, NOT THERE! That was certainly an awesome rendition of the Wraith theme as Thorin marched down the tree branch to confront the Pale Orc. And was most definately not tracked from LOTR. Hopefully if they release "Complete Recordings" as they did with LOTR, it'll be on there. Really, really dug the frenzied strings behind the main (and comfortingly familiar) Wraith theme!

You're right! I just compared them and there is an obvious difference. I'm definitely going to keep both version though, the extended has a lot of music that the regular release doesn't have. Thanks again for the upload MasterZPrime! : )
