To be fair we don't know if his source was the shrine or not. I have the orchestral sheets for Prisoner of Azkaban and I got them LONG before they were posted here. Pianofiles is a fine place, I have a slew of cue sheets

Say, does anyone know if sheet music can be easily converted into midi files or something? I did some research and apparently you have to use OCR, and I bet my braille display wo't be able to process that kind of stuff, it can't even display music notes... Would it be possible to convert sheets from HP to midi? then we would have some kind of computer generated recording sessions. Are demos made like that as well?

Mmmm...Sure they came from PianoFiles, but how does the traffic there compare to the traffic we get here? lol

Oops. I stand corrected. That listing was posted in October but mgm5215 posted the score sheets here earlier in November. Regardless of where they come from, it is still kind of a cool thing to have. I'm afraid I can't read music so well, but I know some others who sure can.

I tried something like that. Sounded like crap.

But maybe it was just my software.

I tried something like that. Sounded like crap.

But maybe it was just my software.

I used the sheet music from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, to do my own arrangement of one of the themes from it, it's "Harry's Closet".

Just to clarify what I did, I looked at the sheet music and took a few hours to go note by note, instrument by instrument, matching the time signature, notes, etc. Then, I attempted to make it sound realistic, and once I had the cue as represented in the sheet music, I made my own modifications, I added choir, which I arranged, a bass drum, and also the extra ending which is completely new. Now, just because I CAN do it, does not mean I WILL, it's terribly painstaking, it took quite awhile to even get this, less than a minute long piece done correctly. For those that are curious, here's the result, everything is synthizised using samples of instruments (that run of an midi arrangement):

1m6pt1 Harry's Closet (With Choir) by zeeky5678 on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free (http://soundcloud.com/zeeky5678/1m6pt1-harrys-closet-with)

So yeah, it CAN be done. It's the matter of finding someone who will spend the huge amount of time it will take to do it.

Good one, zeky! Pity we don't have software that convert sheet music to real music in one click yet.

Amanda
12-03-2012, 06:33 PM
where's the fun in that though. Isn't it more the musician's performance than the music as written that ultimately matters? No computer program can ever convert a written piece into the full fledged musical score, and sound "human". It could be technically correct, but it would never have the right passion....

bollemanneke
12-03-2012, 06:36 PM
Very true, Amanda, but at least we would be able to hear everything. Even though the passion would be lacking, we would still have unreleased music... And frankly, I have always been fascinated by demos, because it's really interesting to hear the differences between orchestras and demos. Incidentally, how are demos made? Does the composer have to play everything himself or does he feed notes to some program?

I actually compose my own music using the program I mentioned, and I completely agree with Amanda here, that's one of the reasons I won't do that for any scores besides it being ridiculously time consuming. Since I compose music and I don't intend for my synth stuff (no matter how realistic I may attempt to get it to sound) to be the final versions. I'd LOVE to have my music played by an orchestra, one piece in particular, my 7 minute epic, War. Amanda is correct, it lacks passion.

Now, i'm assuming other composers do it the same I do with one exception, there program doesn't run off of "piano style" notes, it's actually sheet music, that is read by the computer as midi sounds, kind of like...Finale NotePad, but a lot more complex. That's what I think anyways. Some composers demos even consist of just theme playing themes on the piano. It's just the technology they have available to them, or what they chose to do.

bollemanneke
12-06-2012, 11:10 AM
I have heard of demos that do have feeling/passion or whatever you want to call it. Listen to Hans Zimmer's On Strangers Tides demos.Well, I wouldn't say no to HP demos like that, even though it's not real musicians.

PDFtoMusicpro can convert PDF sheets into Midi or XML files. I did it with one of the cues of Thor, and the result was 100% accurate to the sheet. Sometimes, it depends of the kind of softwares the composers use to do mock-ups.

Could anyone who has the sheet music tell me if Brief Snow Scene is the violin music when Harry sits crying over his dead parents, or is it the 'ding-dong-ding!' choir piece? I'm told that this tracklist is legit, but why isn't A Winter's Spell on there? Wasn't it recorded during the sessions?

Just glanced at the sheet music for this, i'm 100% sure it's the violin music when Harry is crying about his parents. That cue actually starts just before Harry leaves the pub and then they run into the caroling witches and then we go to the part you're referring to. It's all "4m10 Brief Snow Scene" Now, the curious part is that there's a part in the sheets, where an instrument would be listed, that says "Women and Children (Overdub)" so maybe this is just the Orchestral cue and the voices were recorded before or after the recording had taken place. Also at some point along the staff it says "Mist. + "Distant" for them so. Not sure Perhaps all the vocals were done on a different day or something, not sure. As far as this cue goes however, thats what I know.

Ah, thanks for that explanatoin, zeeky! Actually, the choir is heard in the movie before the crying scene as well. God I hope A winter's Spell would be part of the sessions when they surface, because all those YouTube performances of the song are so bad...

Yes of course, that's what I meant. I just suck with words lol. Yeah, i bet the youtube performances are pretty bad. I would think it would be on the sessions ("Ghosts of Hogwarts" was on the Sorcerer's Stone sessions) so unless someone purposely removes a track or two just to be a punk (in the case of Chamber of Secrets, not implying the uploader did it, but rather the source that the uploader got it from did it) then I don't see why it wouldn't be there.

Question pertaining to HP1 OST vs. the sessions: on the OST, beneath the ghosts singing in "Christmas at Hogwarts", there's an eerie ambiance that I haven't ever been able to find on the sessions. The closest I've gotten was in "6m2a Restricted Access", which is just the whole version of "The Invisibility Cloak/The Library Scene" off the OST. Can you help here zeeky?

(Also, zeeky I PM'ed you several days ago, and wasn't sure if you hadn't had time to respond or it just got buried somehow.)

bollemanneke

The Dimensioner, you're right. The ambience is literally taken from the Invisibility Cloak, according to me. Must be one of the oddest and most illogical mixes I ever heard...

Yup, that's right. It's very strange. That scene has nothing to do with the Invisibility Cloak, but that's definitely what it is. Maybe they thought it wasn't mysterious enough or something...No idea. Sometimes the edits in films are very confusing, the Extended Edition of Sorcerer's Stone actually has some glaringly awful edits when they added the new scenes in. It makes it feel like they literally just took the movie and inserted new scenes here and there without actually re-scoring the whole thing to make it fit. Although they're definitely not the worst edits or mixes i've ever heard. Some of the worst (or oddest) edits I know of are in movies like Super 8 (Which has crazy amounts of looping, artificially slowed down performances, and flat out cuts) , National Treasure 2 (which has really weird choices, particularly in the London section of the film), Star Trek (Which due to post recording sessions editing had some of the music rearranged in editing that came out sounding rather odd), Snicket has the whole crazy Train sequence mix (which I wouldn't say it's bad, it's pretty complex, but it's a bit odd), and the TV Show Glee uses fake ending in it's cues like crazy to try and cover up their edits.

Dimensioner, I don't think I got your PM at all actually. :O

EDIT: Also, did you try seeing if the cue "6m2 Christmas Presents" (from 1:26 onward) is the ambience we need?

bollemanneke
02-12-2013, 11:21 AM
Lol, yeah, I was watching HP2 Extended yesterday and noticed that the cake scene with Dobby started with the music written for Dumbledore's office! Was it MGM who wrote that Columbus was the only director who made extended cuts? Are we sure that he did? I mean isn't it just a WB project given the horrible music choices in the new scenes?

I'm starting to think that's what happened because none of the other films have DVD releases of the extended versions. I know Prisoner of Azakaban has one that was aired on ABC Family but none of the other ones have any. I've taken to making my own and doing it properly. I have a very nifty edition of Deathly Hallows which adds the extended scenes in as well as combines both Parts together, I went as far as to do some clever mixing with the music as well as digitally remove the "Part 1" from the opening logo. It's good fun

Aww, man. I want to listen to the recording sessions for Azkaban so badly. At this point, it's just a waiting game. The sessions for HP #1 & #2 are out there, and I think we'll hear the music for #3 eventually. It's just a matter of patience.

Here's what you could do.. As it seems to detect the names of the music you could perhaps rename the tracks which mediafire detects in those links? It seems to detect the music used in the official soundtrack album therefore it's blocking it. Then in the Zip file you could make a text file saying what tracks have been renamed and what they originally were supossed to be? Maybe that'd work?

That looks the same as what you posted. They are all the same DVD rip all using the same track list.

It's a certainty that it contains SFX.

Just to pile on the wish list, I wish whomever had it was kind enough to leak it somehow... It's a crime that John Williams' finest work on the HP series is wasted gathering dust in some select people's Gringotts vaults, so to speak xD

What makes you guys think that? I know manowweik1995 isn't typically known for having things that nobody else has but I took a listen to all the HP3 tracks he has on there so far. Granted I was listening to them without headphones on but I'm pretty sure if they were just a rear-channel DVD rip, there would be SOME remnants of SFX or voice echoes. Well, the most recent one is in mono which is suspicious, but the flute solo track sounds clean.

Not to be sensationalist, but those tracks just might be the legit sessions. They sound way too clear and clean to be a DVDrip.

He probably is just recreating cues with sampling software. I'd be very very surprised if Williams made mockups/demos at all.

Yeah, Williams "demos" or "mockups" looks wrong to me too, but that sampling software is pretty dang good. From what I've seen of manowweik1995's "works" before, though, he doesn't usually label his stuff falsely like some such users of FFShrine's past.

This is one of the best soundtracks made for Harry Potter, it would be nice if someone share it, I also think that this is the only one left to be leaked.
