Composer: Naoki Kodaka

Here is the OST for Batman: The Video Game recorded from the headphone jack of a Model 1 Genesis. (Technically from the line-outs of an attached Sega CD, but same thing.) The Genesis is an original model with "High Definition Graphics" above the cartridge slot, so there should be no distortion in the sound. Audio was captured using a Behringer U-Phono UFO202 and Audacity 2.0.1. Aside from some volume optimization, this is raw audio straight from an actual console, no emulation. Each looping track was allowed to play twice, then given a 10-second fade-out. Tracks are named/numbered according to the sound test mode.

Dude! This is awesome! Whoever did the soundtrack for this, and the NES version is just a phenomenal artist. Thank you so much for the actual hardware rip of it!

Quite welcome! Naoki Kodaka was a wizard; he did the soundtrack for the NES Batman as well, and contributed to other Sunsoft releases such as Blaster Master and Journey To Silius.

NES Batman OST is my favorite but this comes in next.

Jhooqe thanks for the track listing, since I knew nothing about the game it's really handy.

Artist: Naoki Kodaka, Shinichi Seya
Date: 1990

To the left are Goat's track numbers, to the right are mine:

01 = 01 - Title
02 = 02 - Prologue
13 = 03 - Gotham City Street
06 = 04 - Axis Chemical Factory
05 = 05 - Flugelheim Museum
04 = 06 - Sky Over Gotham City
07 = 07 - Gotham City Cathedral
03 = 08 - Special Levels
08 = 09 - Boss
12 = 10 - Stage Clear
10 = 11 - The Joker
09 = 12 - Staff Roll
11 = 13 - Game Over

The track order is based upon the in-game order of appearance, mostly. The titles are based on the location title cards that appear in-game, or usual logical convention for such things (calling the opening title music "Title", or calling the boss battle music "Boss"). But due to the way the game is structured, several tracks could be called multiple things. I just went with what I felt was best. For example, the track entitled "Sky Over Gotham City" is used for all the vehicle shmup segments, but it's first used on the Batmobile stage preceded by the card "Gotham City Street". However, that title makes more sense for the first stage (which also has the "Gotham City Street" location card), and that shmup stage music just felt way more like a "Sky Over Gotham City", you know? The track entitled "Special Levels" is used for several segments throughout the game. Someone else called it "Special Levels", and it makes enough sense for me.

I also included Shinichi Seya in the artist tag along with Noaki Kodaka. He's credited as a sound programmer for the game. That's good enough for me. I'm pretty sure he's composed a little for other Sunsoft games (along with the Second Sunsoft Wizard, Nobuyuki Hara), and I bet he had some hand in this game's music composition too. Either way, I think he deserves it. ;)
