I have never been to the forums here but I love how active and passionate this community is after reading some of the posts.

Anyway, I have been a Final Fantasy fan my entire life and I can easily say I have played every North American Final Fantasy release and beaten every one of them. I have collected for as long as I can remember. I am really struggling with the idea that I must part ways with my collection, but I am prepared to do it. Here is a list of my entire collection with a link posting to the eBay listing. Even if you cannot afford it, please let me know what you think about my collection! I think it is one of the best ones out there. I stacked my collection for the eBay listing because I don't have a room big enough to lay all of them out.

That is a very impressive collection I must say, however, as a long-time FF collector myself, I've noticed that sadly, lately the market has taken a bit of a nosedive in regards to the value and resale of older FF titles, and a lot of this has been caused inadvertently by Square Enix themselves.

Back when I first started collecting FF titles (circa, 1998), and being someone who lived in a PAL territory (Australia), there was only a very limited selection of FF games released (by the end of 1998/early 1999, there was only three official FF games released in PAL: FFVII (both PSX and PC versions), FFVIII (PSX only), and the SNES FF Mystic Quest - renamed, mercifully perhaps, Mystic Quest Legend, so I had no choice but to track down import games. Even when I first got internet access around 2000 and suddenly was shown the unheard opportunities of ebay, the value of import FF titles was very high, simply because a lot were still 'Japan only' at the time and hence, the imported versions were the only legal way to play them.

However, that has long since changed, with SE officially released virtually every mainstream FF title on one platform or another in the US and PAL territories, even the long-time 'missing FF' FFIII, effectively rendering the original import versions of these games less sort after. The final kick in the teeth as far as resale value was concerned came about due to ROM dumps being traded freely online, hence even the original hardware and software didn't need to be used - a ROM and an emulator was all that was required. I've seen tons of copies of, say, the US SNES 'FFII' (FFIV 'easy type') often being passed in at auction simply because there was no demand for it. Nowadays I think, the only really sort-after FF games are the few that are still 'Japan exclusives', which are just spin-offs like FFVII: Before Crisis and FF Type-0. It's the whole 'supply and demand' thing.

Hence, if I can make a suggestion, rather than selling your entire collection at once, you'll probably get a better return by selling individual titles instead. Most people certainly don't have thousands of dollars to splurge on a massive collection of games, which would definitely be the value of your collection at least. Remember, something is only worth as much as what people are willing to pay for it.

Either way, I hope my reply didn't dissuade you from selling your collection, as it is definitely very impressive! (I noticed you have a few omissions though which I possess: ala, FFVIII Collector's Edition (PAL) ;)).

I totally understand the idea of selling everything separately, and it would probably be a little easier to sell. Yes it is very unlikely that someone with thousands of dollars is likely just to come and pick it all up. Some hardcore final fantasy fans most likely have some or a lot of what I already have in my collection as well. I guess what I decided to do was to just take a shot at it! Put it up for one bulk price, close to what I actually paid for all of these items, and see what happens! If nothing comes in up in the duration of the listing I will probably start selling in smaller chunks or individually. I have seen a couple collections go for a large amount like this and thought it wouldn't be too crazy to try myself.

One reason why I decided to do this now is just for the reason you said. The market for these games are slowly dying and some of the value is depreciating. I believe it is because Square has been releasing a little bit less quality games. Sometimes releasing a ton of titles at once or some of the main series games that haven't gotten the most amazing reviews.

Anyway, you definitely didn't dissuade me from selling my collection. In fact, I think about pulling it down everyday because I enjoy my collection so much. If no one decides to purchase it in the near future I may consider selling it individually but only to add up to the total I am selling it for now. I really appreciate your take on my collection!

I would change the wording (or take off) the "Fan Made Final Fantasy 2 NES cartridge - works no problems" as that is illegal to sell and eBay may remove your auction, especially that you have it listed up top...maybe move it down a bit, hard to say with these things BUT don't admit it's a "home made pirate cart". Also take off the silly $4 shipping and just make it free as that looks better. Whenever you sell BIG money items for thousands you offer free shipping, that always works better.

I would also change that title to something better like "Complete Huge Final Fantasy Collection Games & Merchandise" to attract buyers who may want to start a collection.

Unfortunately you will do better by splitting the setup then trying to get $9k for the whole set. Collectors such as myself who have 99% of what you have, may only need 10 of them and obviously I wouldn't buy your whole set for that.

I'll keep a watch on it, if it does sell maybe I'll sell mine.

Awesome! Thanks for those notes! I did not know that about eBay possibly taking my auction down because of that one item. It's just something ive found over the years and i will probably just throw it in their anyway. I removed that from my auction.

To be honest, it is my first item on ebay so i just didnt know how to use the shipping option very well!! I changed that as well, good point on that.

I honestly believe it probably wont sell but it is worth a shot. I plan on selling it individually if it doesn't sell as i already have people contacting me about certain items.

You don't have to take it off, just say rare nes cart or something...collectors will know what it is. I have seen a lot of NES/SNES repro auctions removed, though not saying they will but it's not worth the risk. You will find the auctions that are not taken off when they don't admit it's a "fan made" or "reproduction" they got smart and say rare cart, which is of course lying but collectors know what it is.
