In comparison to many scores that I heard today. Just to name a few: Desplat's Argo, Rise of the Guardians, A.R. Rahman's People Like Us, Alan Menken's Mirror, Mirror, Dario Mariannelli's Anna Karenina, Dario Marianelli's Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, Fernando Velazquez's The Impossible, Gabriel Yared's A Royal Affair, Howard Shore's The Hobbit.... these are some to name you that are some of the fine scores from 2012...yet Danna's score triumphs over them for being unique, lush, emotional and sublime. I heard it over 10 times already.

Ang Lee's Hulk was an abomination, no pun intended. It was awful. The crowd I saw it with was laughing at it the whole time.

Thanks for the share, Mychael Danna has some good music

This Pi score is silly and gave me cavities. Then also, I have no interest in a film with a CGI tiger. Salmon Fishing on the Yeman is charming and delightful. The Hobbit is 'been there, done that'. Enough Howard Shore & middle earth already.

But the soundtrack as well as the film CLOUD ATLAS remains the masterpiece of the year.

Really, hoping for Skyfall to catch the Oscar, but Danna's one is better for me, than Lincoln or Desplat's Argo. Iam sured you liked Skyfall & Life of Pai Just like me.

As far as "Best Original Score", I guess I wanted Skyfall to win, because it was the only one out of all 5 nominees that I saw. Now as far as "Best Original Song", WITHOUT A DOUBT I wanted Adele to win for Skyfall, so I was thrilled when she did. It was nice to see her perform it, although I felt it was mediocre at best, given it was the film edit and not the full song. I feel like she didn't really put her back into it, either. But it was still nice to see her perform it.

I think I'm gonna see Life of Pi in 3D tomorrow, but that all depends on one thing: 3D. I've only found one article so far that tells me it was filmed natively in 3D and never went through the shit post-production transfer that unfortunately too many films are going through these days. Has anyone seen it in 3D? Was it a "visual miracle" as Time Magazine called it? I regret not seeing it after it won 3 Oscars last night, and after having seen all the clips I really want to see it now

And why are you "sure" of that? Normally, given a choice I am a Williams girl, over most others, on principle. Skyfall is the only film I saw of the 5, and the only score I have actually heard also. So I could not say if it "deserved" to win. It IS a damn fine score, I feel that. I did dl Pi, will listen later. I think Adele did ok with performance, but she seemed drowned out by the orchestra, had no power. Perhaps she is unwell?

DAKoftheOTA

Exactly how I felt. She didn't really belt it out like she did on the single. Norah Jones was also drowned out by the orchestra when she performed "Everybody Needs A Best Friend" from Ted. Back to Adele, I could've let go the fact that it was the film mix (I prefer the single version better, as it's longer and the Bond theme is uncut) if she just really screamed her lungs out. She's capable of it, and I've heard her do it.

While we're on Bond, I thought the whole "Bond 50" celebration was sucky as well. The montage that they played to all of the films? BORING. When I first heard there was gonna be a special presentation to celebrate 50 years of Bond, I thought they'd have all 6 007's on stage to do at least something, you know? Because they're all still alive. Now THAT would've been a celebration. I was very disappointed. However, it was an unexpected pleasant surprise to see Dame Shirley Bassey appear to perform "Goldfinger". Now THAT was a performance, and she's still got it

Amanda
02-25-2013, 06:05 PM
Adele's Choice of edit was probably not hers. I am sure time was a factor. "All That Jazz" was also severely edited. I was let down by the Bond, yes. And They should have at least had a scene or snippet of each actor in the series. I also was disappointed by the In Memoriam set this year. They said they could have used more time for the tribute? Then cut the 4 minute rendition of Barbara's song....:(

Then again, supposedly this year was all about celebrating music in film. Why not a piece dedicated to scores? After all, in the best score presentation they went out of their way to say scores were the life of the film. Here's a crazy idea. When presenting the score nominations, instead of a snippet of the main title over pretty promo pics, try this. Show a section of the nominated score without the score, then show it again with the score. So maybe viewers could get a sense of what the hell we mean when we say a score brings a movie to life....:b
