This is simply beautiful.

I normally would just listen to this on the streaming site but it is so poorly designed that you have to listen to it in one sitting and can't pause it or it starts over. Poor design at its worst. Nothing too exciting from as far as I got anyway though so not too annoyed that I couldn't finish listening.

Orbit Grab++ seems to work, but I get 0% progress. Hmmm, confusing.

Yeah I noticed that too.. I managed to do few track but the rest is hard without shortening the track, etc. One track is in mono for some reason (atleast for me), and there's some very bad distortion at same places :(

Yeah, probably because it still had the name in the file. Try naming it something like TH-ST (the file itself). That way they can't use naming systems to find it.

If he doesn't reupload it, just use the Internet Download Manager to save the Flash's stream from the site: Hobbit (http://www.decca.com/hosting/hobbit/). That's worst case scenario though.

Hope someone's working on a re-up. Listening to the Stream right now, sounds great :)

The Internet Download Manager AlexShore mentioned previously will save the entire streaming link but only as it streams the audio in real time. Once you have IDM installed, run the program and it will run in the background. Now hit play on the streaming player and a button will appear prompting you to "save". When stream is complete and saved as an .flv file, drag it into Audacity and export it as an audio file of your choosing. You can also use Audacity for any cutting and splicing you wish to perform. Note that there are no breaks in the track, just continuous music for 105 minutes so it will be a chore for anyone wanting to cut this down into separate cuts. Both Internet Download Manager and Audacity are freebies btw.

Use initials for the file and add a password to encrypt it. That may help to prevent identification of the music, although in this case I think Wildwood is right and someone helped Warner to pinpoint the file. We might have eyes here checking out the forum...

could anyone confirm the mono quality on the track "Out of the Frying Pan" Track 23 just to make sure it's not just my problem :DThis is how it was done in the source, they goofed. I can try a simple trick by playing the same audio in the right channel as well as the left (not really stereo, but at least it'll avoid the awkward silence in one ear. Let me try that later today.

Ok, I fixed track 23 (sound only from left channel).

There are two versions included in the new archive.

The file ending in -mono: I removed the silent right-channel and converted it a mono file so the same sound will play out both channels.
The file ending in -false-stereo: I duplicated the left channel audio to the right channel, added a 5ms delay on the left, ran an EQ on both channels to help separate the sounds a bit. I'm no audio engineer, but it sounds better than the mono file to me.

Unfortunately I had to re-encode each of the files from the original source so we do loose a bit of quality here.

The only reason I can think of is to protect the original link from being taken down (I'm not sure but I hear that certain sites are switching on to links coming in from this site). Not that it works because there will be a "Report" button the other end anyways. Using CODE tags works just as well.

It's just a transcode of the original streaming version (128Kbps) chopped into individual tracks, time consuming work but appreciated as a good sample of the soundtrack.To clarify, the audio stream was captured directly (no re-encoding) from the source which was 320kbps. All split tracks preserve full fidelity from the original (including the errors in track 23) minus my track 23 fix which I had to re-encode to add the right channel. If they started at a poor source (i.e., MP3 160kbps) and then re-encoded to 320kbps when they posted it on the web, then there's nothing I can do about their horrible workflow practices nor anything to improve the sound quality.

This is awesome. Thanks for your hard work, attensa. I was going to do it myself, but decided to check here first.

Anyway There are Two Version out there for this Soundtrack (Standard) & (Special or Deluxe) Editions, Since this has a Run time of 1:45:05 So i Found it to be the Standard Edition so i Looked up the Track list & You Guys will find it in a txt file so you'll know which track you're listening to.
I wanted to Separate the Tracks but found it to be a bit time consuming & i'm pretty busy right now so i'll leave that to you guys : )

I agree. Very pale, uninspired and a swampy sound-carpet, interchangeable and by no means unique in any respect. Once heard you won't remember a single cue. This score is simply boring, but maybe that's exactely what the movie asks for.

The hype of expectation shouldn't be confused with the real quality of the score, or in other words:
The higher the listener's expectations and pleasant anticipations, the bigger the disappointment.

As to my soundtrack understanding, Howard Shore is (and already was) one of the most overrated soundtrack composers.

I provided a fixed track (see my previous posts) but it's still not ideal; I don't like the eq I ran on one channel, but it's still better than the original since there's at least sound coming out of both channels.

Out of the frying pan sounds fine attensa! Not entirely there, but it'll do until the actual version is released!

This score was better than some this year and I like how Shore has shown the development of the Mordor theme which is very gritty. Tracks like "An Unexpected Party" and "A Good Omen" are perhaps the standouts of the soundtrack for me. Dreaming of Bag End is also a nice throwback to the shire settings Shore created for LotR. I can see the themes developing and improving upon as the next two films come out and I'm glad we didn't get some Zimmer-Drone to score this instead of it's rightful heir - Howard Shore himself!

It's not panned left. The file only contains the left channel.

it seems that opinions are didived on this soundtrack. I wait to watch the movie. Don't judge too fastly guys. Reviews of the movie are still not online but it seems that it's very good if we believe the tweets from the guys who had the chance to watch the premiere in NZ ;)

Howard Shore is (and already was) one of the most overrated soundtrack composers.

I don't agree. Except his success with the trilogy he never got the attention he deserved. He's actually one of the few composers who still comes up with fresh ideas in composition and orchestration (btw he deserves respect for doing all the orchestration on his own ... in contrast to composers who deliver 4 movies in one year) I agree, his style is not to everyones taste and he tends to repeat certain motifs but none the less he is one of the few who really knows how to write and arrange for orchestra ... when I hear 'overrated' some other guys come to my mind ;)

thanks for finding which tracks are which. from what i saw (downloading still) the links are all on the actual warnerbros site server, so it isnt a fan-made one like the other. comparing the source of the FYC site, i think they are the same links that play if you click "scores", and so it only has the files they have shared there.

I'm just glad to have these tracks properly separated. My CDs can't come soon enough!

My current set has several of the rolling stone and FYC tracks (they're both at 160 kbps and appear to be the same files), as well as "Radagast the Brown" at 261 kbps, both versions of "Old Friends" (though the extended is only at 128 kbps), and Song of the Lonely Mountain at 320 kbps. I can upload it if anyone's interested, but it'll probably be a good 10-11 hours before I can do so.

Untouched? At 320? Impossible. The rollingstone stream was only at 160 kbps. Until your post, I don't think anyone had mentioned altering the files. For my set, I've just replaced some of them with better quality copies (namely "Radagast" and "Song of the Lonely Mountain").

It ain't my rip, I found it someplace else it was quit obscure and the only one I found working, so I downloaded and uploaded it on another server for you guys ^^

Actually, it is not obscure, there are at least three threads for this, the standard version. And also at least one for the special collector's edition which contains nearly the complete score on I think 2 discs with bonus extended tracks. All versions are also available on Paradox in multiple threads.

Are you sure Amanda? I mean, I know this isn't "obscure," but it seems to me that every other hobbit thread on the forum is for the special edition -- MasterZPrime's thread, collection's thread, that one thread with the iTunes files... The web-rips from Empire and RollingStone were both the standard edition, but never in higher than 160 kbps mp3.

I downloaded the RAR files from the two links you provided. After listening to the tracks and examining them in Audacity, it is clear that they are not legitimate. It sounds to me like someone recorded the live stream released this past November at this link Hobbit (http://www.decca.com/hosting/hobbit/) and then divided the hour and 45 min. long track into it's respective tracks. When I listened to them, it is clear that this is indeed the case. Those of you who listened to the stream of the soundtrack may recall that the ends of each of the tracks were cross faded into each other which made up the hour and 45 min. long stream of the soundtrack. The tracks here are cut off and do not fade out like normal tracks do, i.e., they are from the stream; in addition the length of these tracks are short in comparison to the standard ost tracks on iTunes.

All this to say, we still need someone to upload a legit. standard version of the Hobbit soundtrack to this tread, or preferably, a new thread.

I am a little curious. I downloaded all the files here and I now have several different versions of several tracks. Who can tell me which tracks are the right ones to keep and which I should discard?
