WD, it is a Varese release and cannot be posted. When the original "complete" FYC leaked and was posted, mods deleted it. I would assume that is still the case. He wants you to send him a pm to request which links you want.

Ok, I'm confused. I've had the 34-track version for some time now. I've seen people on FSM say that the 8-track version is the real deal. They say it's 7 cues from the film and the 8th one is Jonsi's "Sticks and Stones" as Best Original Song. I've never seen this so-called 8-track version, only the 34 track version, which can be found here:

How to Train Your Dragon John Powell FYC Promo Oscar Score 2 CDs | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRAIN-YOUR-DRAGON-John-Powell-FYC-Promo-Oscar-Score-2-CDS-/251153742645?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D11%26meid%3D2838095187244874390%26pid%3D100 011%26prg%3D1005%26rk%3D2%26sd%3D200568646505%26)

I was told it's legit, but then again they say the 8-track version is legit. There can't be 2 FYCs, that makes no sense.

Hopefully someone here can shed some light on this matter and clear things up

Dunno. I had the 34 track one @ mp3 320 for a while, and had no sound quality issues. I would be surprised if an academy submission was only 7 score tracks and a song. Songs and score are different catagories in the awards anyway, aren't they. Doesn't make sense to send score with a song for consideration, or a song with score. I would think they would be two completely different submissions?

DAKoftheOTA

But I've seen one on eBay where the cover says

"Best Original Score - John Powell"
"Best Original Song - 'Sticks and Stones'"

Idk. I'm not saying there definitely isn't 2 FYCs. There may very well be. I'm just saying it makes no sense (to me, anyway).

However, I do have the Da Vinci Code FYC, and it's identical to the OST in every way except that track #7, "Salvete Virgines" is missing, because it wasn't written by Zimmer.
the REAL Da Vinci FYC is a suite running approximately 26-28 min. Yet the disc I have is pressed and legit. I can't explain it....

Amanda
10-19-2012, 12:53 AM
Dunno. But i know it matters for you since you collect them. Could be both were sent on one disc, could be the e-bay one was not entirely legit. Perhaps the score FYC added to the song FYC on a cd-r? I dunno. i can see the submission for a score being one long suite. Edited for maximum impression. Just because it is an FYC album, does not mean it is complete, or even film version tracks...

Damn right it matters to me lol. This is an issue I would most love to resolve. It's confusing, really

Again, you're damn right. TRON: Legacy, anyone? If not for Metrotokyo's fantastic Blu-ray rip, we wouldn't have the film version tracks

There was in fact 2 versions of the so called FYC Promo.

One with 7 tracks + song 'Sticks & Stones' (Version 1)

But also a second version with 34 tracks + song 'Sticks & Stones' (Version 2)

However what was really the version submitted, nobody knows for sure.

Thank you, Sanico. You always come in from nowhere and make my day. Those 2 images are of the exact ones I was talking about. I appreciate it. Cool, so there's 2 FYCs for HTTYD...

...which leads me to:

are there 2 FYCs for Da Vinci? If I had a scanner, I'd scan my disc and upload it, but unfortunately I don't. It's pressed and everything

It's my understanding that the 34-track is a bootleg assembled from the commercial album and the "For Your Consideration" website, whereas my upload is actually ripped from legitimate FYC discs. I don't know if that's actually true and honestly, I thought the bootleg sounded fine...until I listened to this! Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel like the bootleg has a louder, "bassier" sound than stunningly clear FYC.

Good lord, I've turned into a commercial...

Were there 2 different sets of artwork then for the 34 track? I have 2 different copies of this from 2 different sources...the artwork on one of them matches what the blog shows for the 8 track version and I have another version that matches the artwork for the 34 track version according to the blog.

I have never seen the 8 track version...

I also have a 35 track expanded that is FLAC but also from a lossy source like the 34 track...I wonder if the ebay seller actually has the real deal or is selling another "lossy" disc...

Edit: didn't scroll down to Sanico's post. I have a version that matches the artwork she is showing and that matches the artwork from the ebay link. Both sound identical to my ears from a quality standpoint...

As for the artowrk for the 34 track, see the link I posted.

As for the 35 track version, it includes an Alternate for "Where's Hiccup?". That's the only difference

I also have a 36 track version that is in 320...it has most of the same songs as the 34 track but with some at different lengths. It is by far the worst sounding so maybe this is the bootleg referred to by amh that was made with website rips...

Here is that tracklist:
01. Introduction {1:09}
02. This Is Berk {3:11}
03. Introducing Dragons {1:56}
04. Did Anybody See That? {1:29}
05. War Room {0:47}
06. Out There {4:17}
07. Bread-Making Vikings {0:28}
08. Dragon Training {3:12}
09. Wounded {1:27}
10. The Dragon Book {2:24}
11. Focus, Hiccup! {2:07}
12. Offering {0:54}
13. Forbidden Friendship {4:12}
14. New Tail {2:48}
15. Teamwork {0:46}
16. Charming The Zippleback {0:27}
17. See You Tomorrow {3:55}
18. Test Drive {2:37}
19. Not So Fireproof {1:14}
20. This Time For Sure {0:44}
21. Astrid Finds Toothless {0:36}
22. Astrid Goes For A Spin {0:43}
23. Romantic Fight {1:57}
24. Dragon's Den {2:30}

31. That Thing Has Wings! {1:14}
32. Counter Attack {1:54}
33. Where's Hiccup {2:45}
34. Where's Hiccup (Alternate) {2:51}

36. The Vikings Have Their Tea {2:04}

There are many more versions of How To Train Your Dragon scores. And over the last few years, they appeared over ebay so we all could really doubt about it's authenticy.

There is indeed 1 Disc version and the 2 Disc version as the image by Sanico shows.

But there is also a 2 Disc version with a different cover (more white), and there is also a 3 Disc version with the same cover as the 2 Disc version by Sanico.

The 2CD has much better sound than the original varese release even, considering they blew everything up with poor mastering. I hated the score before I listened to this 34 track edition. However, the version I had before was not split into tracks so I'm curious if the edition you got was, or if it came as 2 long tracks?

Thank you for sharing this, amh1219; the information posted by that user about the different versions is very interesting. Perhaps some can find also interesting the clipping on tracks 03 and 05 (http://imgur.com/a/S2BCd) of the 8-tracks album. To me it's difficult to believe that professional sound technicians might deliver a product with such basic and easily spottable taint, even in a promotional disc. Do you experts -or not- think those things happen?

As a matter of fact, I do think those things happen and I'd say it's almost a minor miracle that these promos often have better instrument separation than the official release, since the people who pressed these discs couldn't even be bothered to use a lossless source. I can't honestly recall anyone complaining of clipping on other FYC promos, but many such discs have problems.

Two things need to be mentioned here..........

1. Track 7 is missing from FYC Promo because it wasn't used in the film at all,it's like a bonus track on the cd. I believe Richard Harvey also composed Kyrie which can be heard on the FYC as you said above.......

2. First time to hear about Da Vinci's FYC Promo......... is it like you said above? just one track is missing and all other tracks are identical the official cd? should i search for it or not?

***off the topic***

but again if it is identical to the OST why wasn't nominated for Academy Award?????? it's 1/2 Zimmer's finest scores......

*pf* academy and all that............
