SYNOPSIS

October 2016 marked the 50th Anniversary of the animated TV special. The original sponsors, as seen during the original opening sequence were Coca-Cola, and the Dolly Madison brand of baked snack foods. The kids celebrate Halloween, with Linus hoping that, finally, he will be visited by The Great Pumpkin. He explains to Charlie Brown, and anyone else who will listen, that you must be worthy in order to receive a visit from the Great Pumpkin. He even convinces Sally, who is smitten with Linus, to forgo trick-or-treating and wait with him in the pumpkin patch.

THIS SOUNDTRACK

The jazzy soundtrack was the work of genius composer Vince Guaraldi, To celebrate this milestone, I've created a complete soundtrack.
Some of the tracks were sourced from an Austrailian DVD (borrowed from my good friend MKtheinstrumentalist) containing music never before heard cleanly.

This is Version 2 with better audio.
I've removed some of the Fx; very little remains.

*UPDATE*

Since the last time this soundtrack was posted in 2012, I had always assumed that the DVD copy was complete, ergo this soundtrack from produced from that.

Recently I've come across clips that indicate that in 1966, a slightly longer version existed with opending and closing ads by Coca-Cola and Doly Madison cakes.

So to make this the most complete soundtrack, I've updated tracks #02 "Graveyard Theme (extended)" and #26 "It's the Great Pumpkin Ending (Charlie Brown Theme) (extended)" to include the additional music.

Have a listen.

I've tried downloading it using your instructions, but have had no luck-of course it is probably my error as I'm a low tech to no tech kinda guy. I'm using an iMac and when I downloaded from the link you kindly provided it came up as a file and I couldn't figure out how to play it...it only seemed to offer me Quick Time as an option, and that wouldn't work. ANY assistance you could provide would be very much appreciated! Especially since I see you also have a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and Christmas as well! By the way, regardless of whether I can ever get this thing going, it's very nice of you to do this for fans of the shows...I appreciate your time and effort! :^)

Most files posted in this forum are stored in "compressed" format to save space (and bandwidth).
If the file downloaded properly, it should have a .rar (or .zip) suffix (if for some reason it came down with an .exe suffix, NEVER open it!).
So get yourself a copy of WinRar or UnRar and open the file with that. You should see a folder with the tracks listed above.

Thanks so much for this. It's nice to have these audio tracks without the dialogue, even if they still contain all the sound effects. I was particularly blown away to hear the extend version of the Graveyard Theme.

One note: the ID3 credits embedded in the metadata of the MP3 tracks list the artist as the Vince Guaraldi Trio. This is incorrect. The artists in this case are the Vince Guaraldi Sextet which recorded these cues for the Halloween special. The trio included the piano, bass, and drums. Guaraldi's sextet added the flute, guitar, and trumpet (usually a muted trumpet).

I'm a long time fan of the Great Pumpkin sextet arrangements of the Guaraldi Charlie Brown classics. It's a shame that the sextet versions of these songs have never been officially released, with the exception of course of the Great Pumpkin Waltz, which is the only sextet version of the Charlie Brown standards to see the light of day.

The sextet version of "Linus and Lucy" which we hear most completely at the opening of the show is my favorite of all the versions Guaraldi officially recorded (and there are nearly a dozen different official versions of that song released on different Guaraldi albums.) It is the whimsical flute that makes the sextet version so special, and sets it apart from all the rest. I long for it to be released officially, and I would assume the master tapes exist since the sextet recording of the Great Pumpkin Waltz exists.

The other two main songs that would be nice to have from the Guaraldi sextet sessions that aired in this special are Charlie Brown Theme (heard most completely at the end of the show and through the credits, and like Linus and Lucy, differs from all other official versions with a faster tempo and that flute so prominent) and wonderful Graveyard Theme that serves as the main title music for the show, and has never been officially released in any version that I know of.

A question for spetragl: How were the audio tracks pulled from the Blu-ray with out the dialogue? My Blu-ray does not have a way to play it that way, at least not that I can figure out. The only audio options are the english and spanish dialogue soundtracks. I'd love to know how you did this.

Typically I rip the entire audio track into one large WAV file (maintaining the 6 channels). Then using a 6 channel editor (such as Nero SoundTrax), I eliminate the (C)enter channel first. Depending on how the vocals in movie are mixed, sometimes I remove the Lf and Rf, sometimes I remove the Lr and Rr. In worst cases, I pan between Front and Rear to eliminate the vocals.

In this particaular movie, all of the dialogue is placed in the (C)enter channel. So to see what it sounds like without vocals, turn off only your (C)enter channel on your TV set.

One of the great soundtracks of all time, and surely one of the the most wanted soundtracks of all time. I put mine together a year (or two?) ago from cuts that I found on YouTube. Then I found this version, which is so much easier and sounds so much better. This version is great! Thanks so much!

I've been trying to assemble the "Easter Beagle" for years, but most of the material hasn't been released.
At present I have about 50% of the tracks; the remaining 50% are the original dialogue tracks (just so I keep track of what I'm missing).

Well it's confirmed.
I received my copy of Craft's Recording of "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and I'm not impressed.
So the big question first, does it contain Fx?
Yes it does; nothing's been removed. ARGHHHH
Is it any better than this recording?
Possibly, but hardly noticeable.
In fact, many tracks fade out abruptly.
So who's better?
One thing I have that they don't: the complete "Graveyard Theme (extended)"
and the complete "It's the Great Pumpkin Ending".

You be the judge!
