Ah, most excellent! This little gem deserves FAR more public attention and most certainly a CD-release with more music! :)

While the film itself is actually pretty good (and not only because you get a VERY good look at Marina Sirtis' two "talents") the score is even better! And, no, it's no synthesizer-muzak as some people may expect from a member of Genesis but a fully fledged orchestral score!

Andrew Powell of Alan Parsons take note - THAT'S how you score a film! And not that half-arsed classical/synthie-rock-shite atrocity you committed against Ladyhawke! Well, except for the finale of course...

Tony Banks also did a couple of other scores - most notably Quicksilver and Lorca And The Outlaws (aka Redwing). Excerpts of these scores have been released on an album called "Tony Banks - Soundtracks", which I heartily recommend! (Just don't expect classical scores - for the most part it's 80s synthesizer.) :)

A special note on Lorca And The Outlaws (aka Redwing) - but certainly not a recommendation for the film:

While it is stated explicitely on some websites that Banks only composed the score but the film was not released with it, this is not the whole truth.

The German version for example DOES contain the original score by Banks - including a pretty good theme which is played during the battles (alas, it is not included on "Soundtracks"). The German dubbed version, which was only broadcasted ONCE on state television ZDF, is also the only version shown in the proper widescreen aspect ratio of 1:2.35.

Believe me, with a third of the (good) SFX-shots gone due to Pan & Scan, the shitty story even feels worse - especially without the right score in the background and some weird recuts and voice overdubbing in the beginning (US-version).

All other foreign versions - EXCEPT the original Australian one (this may be a rumour) - contain either an awful library-score (e.g. UK) or music by another composer (e.g. US) which is also pretty bad.

At least the songs that fellow Genesis-member Peter Gabriel contributed to the score are included on "Soundtracks".

Tony Banks is not dead.

R.I.P. Peter Banks, former guitarist with the band "Yes" - and nothing to do with Genesis, Tony Banks, or this score...

Since the film is a British film, let's not be calling the UK release "foreign", please... ;)

Well I wouldn't say he has "nothing" to do with him they do indeed share the same last name and they played in Prog Rock bands.
