Take a look at the illustrious career of film composer Bernard Herrmann, whose collaborations with some of cinema's finest directors resulted in unforgettable scores for such classics as Citizen Kane, North by Northwest, Taxi Driver and Psycho. Joshua Waletzky's fascinating documentary features interviews with Martin Scorsese and Claude Chabrol, as well as Herrmann's heretofore unheard score for Alfred Hitchcock's Torn Curtain.

Have no idea if this is the the documentary I saw on PBS years ago. That one did a side by side comparison of the murder sequence in TORN CURTAIN. Hitchcock wanted no music. He got his way when he fired Herrmann. But Herrmann had already scored the scene. And of course the version with Herrmann's music made it MUCH MORE INTENSE.
