Thanks for this, WildwoodPark! I'm on the fence about this buy and appreciate the preview.

Does anyone know if this little piece of end title music made it onto the collection in any form or fashion?

It is really too bad that they did not give us two discs of new music, and opted to make disc 1 a repeat of the first release, leaving only disc 2 as new material..

WildwoodPark
09-02-2012, 04:14 AM
Well at least they remastered the first disc although I don't have that digital download from 2010 to compare against.

I had it, but just deleted it. I combined both discs of this new set for ease of listening on the ipod, and deleted the first release, which I am now very glad I did not get. Never the less, thank you again for putting it up. Your host dl'ed very fast indeed. I have tried using it, but my files disappear as quickly as I put them up, same as peeje does..:notgood:

While the new music is great, I wish they would have chosen the score part from the episode, 'Hidden' leading up to Clark being 'gone', instead of the scene that follows.

Which I don't suppose anyone knows if it exists anywhere?

How about the fact that they never included any of the mark snow highlights, just mostly ominous cues and at least include something more from the finale featuring louis febre's best work instead of so many slower and unnecessary choices but regardless La La Land actually did smallville so here's hoping we get another volume one day.

Yea, the Snow selections sound VERY X-Files. Not that it is bad music, it just doesn't feel very Smallville specific. As for which scene is included or not, does anyone here have a good working knowledge on how that selection is made? Nine years of music, only two hours to be released, half from each composer. So, how DO they start that process...?

Maybe by drawing numbers? ;)

Well, kidding aside, that's an interesting question. Nowadays many tv shows have music for almost each and every episode; while in some cases, it may produce many episodes with similar music (especially when there are only one or two composers), it may produce some unique gems, if you have good composers. Back in the 60ies, we had, at most, one third of each season with new music (if at all), the rest was tracked (like with Star Trek TOS, which had roughly 15 hours of unique music for 79 episodes). Later trek series, however, had different scores for each episode (which gave us the huge Ron Jones Box, which didn't sell well, however, even if it had great scores!). Other composers had to compose very bland music (due to studio restrictions), so for example, a complete STTNG Dennis McCarthy box would surely be a commercial (and artistic) desaster.

I don't know Smallville very well, but since this show is very popular and seems to have many sought after scores, a 2-CD release is indeed not much. In the end, it's the decision of the producer (and, maybe, the composer) what to release and what not (or what to hold for later volumes). From a fan standpoint, the labels should ask the fans beforehand, what they want - surely an easy thing in the time of the internet! Let them decide what they want to hear, and surely the numbers of sold copies would rise!

Many thanks! Must say I too find the choice of selected tracks fairly questionable. Particularly some of the Mark Snow action music which is extremely similar (if not identical to) already available X-Files cues.

This is such a nice score but its incomplete. I'm not sure if the complete score was ever released. The track I'm looking for is from season 4, episode Spell where Clark gets his powers back.

Just an FYI - it was never stated that this 2 CD collection included all of the complete scores for every episode of the entire 10 year run of Smallville by the label that released this (nor this post). If it were, it would definitely be more than 2 discs. It would be nice to have everything...maybe they will release additional volumes like their X-Files releases (even with The X-Files releases, I doubt they will release everything from it's 9 year run). However, it all comes down to how well this set sold.

I know it doesn't state any of the above. I was making a general statement in regards to this 2CD set. I believe you're taking offense to a general statement. It would be like if you uploaded a picture of an NFL team and I said they're a bad team. My comment was not meant to stab you as a poster. It was merely to state a fact that there are a lot of fans out there that would wish to see the entire series collection score. That's it.
