Which Summon system do you prefer?

Old Skool Style: The one from FF1-5 and 9 where the summoners are the ones that can summon them and they cost MP and can be used as many times as you want providing you have the MP.

Materia Style: Final Fantasy 7. Anyone can use Summons but the amount of times they can be used depends on their star level. They cost no MP and are used straight away.

GF Style: Final Fantasy 8. Anyone can use the summons, and they don't take up MP, but they take time to charge up and can be damaged during the charge, but that damage protects the party member it's on. They can be boosted during their attack to be stronger.

Aeon Style: Where Yuna is the only one who can summon :P. You play as the Aeon like you would a normal character and attack with it. It can also be KOed like a normal character.

Other: Any others that I've missed.

My personal fave is the materia style but the Aeon style is growing on me.

The Aeon style adds more depth to summoning.

I chose the old skool way of doing it, it seems sensible and logical.

The GF's were cool! Specally Shiva...she's hot...
I like the idea where the GF's learn abilies, it is kind of like having virual pets on the game. Over the times, I got attached to my GFs.

Aeon's made the most sence to me, though the only styles i've accually seen are Aeons and GF's. But where you accually play as the summon seems more right then just having it come otu to attack once then leave to be summoned again.

Ok, question - Why did you not mention the summoning style from FF6? The Espers? I think that style was better. You learn spells from the Esper and you can only summon it ONCE per battle. A lot of people I know hate the summon system from FF6, but I personnally think it was better. You had to reply on your character and build them up as well as their stats and utilise their own strengths in battle, instead of falling back onto the summon monsters. I'm not saying the other summon styles suck, far from it as they can help you out quite a bit, but I just prefer the Esper style of summoning. Don't have to fight leaning on a crutch, just on your own two feet.

I really got into aeons, even if they could make things really easy at times. So could some of the other summons though.

I like Aeon, because summon is part of the storyline and it totally gives a good reason for Aeon's existence in the game. And it's the same as in FF9. I like these two the most.

Summon is a versy special and cool piece in FF games, it shoule have it's own meaning in the game, not just pop out as a magic.

I myself like the materia system, its cool to have to go and look for the summon materias. Also u can mix the materia so the summons have more "skills" and etc.

I think I loved the GF idea the most because of the fact that you could boost them so much to deal even greater amounts of damage...and even that was a little bit of a challenge, with the whole timing aspect of it. Plus, you were defended from hard-hitting bosses most of the time because you were charging a GF's attack. When your GF's kicked the bucket (well...not really) you had full health with your characters still to use all of your abilities while the boss was severely weakened from the GFs. OH yeah.

I liked the Aeon way. It was a nice twist and we've all been wanting to control the summons sometime, aeons gave us that chance

I really hope that they will do something alike in FFXII. ^^;

I didn't like the aeons cause only Yuna could summon. The materia was my favorite. Combine the Quad materia with Knights of the Round summon and the enemy was in some s***.

Aeons I think, gave Yuna a reason for being there, it tied into the story well (as it did the eidolons in FFIX), and the fact that you could choose whether to watch the long or short animation was a big bonus.

ffVII summoning is more modern and appealling to me. have to admit though that shoving practically every ability into a materia made it hard to comfortably organize them. then there's the plus of not losing your memory when u decide to utilize such raw power. dunno if that happened in earlier FFs only know that that happens in FFVIII, and looks like it happens when Yuna summons some Aeon, forget which one...think it's Valefor that those green spheres with orangy-red centers circle and fly away?
