That is just a rumour at this stage, mostly because of the announcement FFX was being given a HD makeover for PS3 - but on that later project, nothing further has been announced and is now believed to be either canned or indefinitely shelved.

Really, the only announced re-release of FFVII is a re-release of the PC version with bugs fixed that will be available for purchase and direct download from SE themselves.

Also incidentally, any talk of a FFVII remake on this forum used to be banned, because such threads inevitably descended into flame wars unpleasant for all concerned, but I'm willing to overlook that this time.;)

IMO, threads about FFVII remake SHOULD be deleted immediately Enkidoh... That's what Agent0042 and NeoXzhan did whenever one decided to appear. Most of them are made by newcomers to the series who hate the PSX graphics etc and want it remade in 3D, fully voiced etc bullshit.

I've always been a big fan of FFVII (honestly the first of the series I have played), but I'm not sure I'd really be all that interested in a remake, especially with the voicing etc. Anyway, it's unfortunate that being somewhat a noob here I have seen why these posts tend to be deleted because it gets so ugly so quickly.

On a somewhat tangent, I have seen some of those Youtube videos of fan-made "upgrades" to the graphics and menus and they are quite impressive and I'd by lying if I said I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it if it were released.

I have a bit more info on this, actually. There was a tech demo released for the PS3 that had the entire opening sequence redone in HD, but that was all it was. A demo to show the capabilities of the PS3's graphics. There was no plans to do more with it then. However, the ending of Crisis Core sings a different tune, showing Cloud aboard the train in updated graphics and with some voice work. I think it's cruel for SE to tease like that and not produce, but they've already come out and said that it will continue to take a backseat priority to other new games. Ultimately, if they're going to bring it forward, it would probably find its best home on the Vita. God knows it needs a good title to help sell it.
