Bumping in case anyone is still interested in these or if you missed out or something... also updated the album covers since the links died.

I hate that you have to subscribe to your own thread now so I could have seen this before... but I'll answer your question in case anyone else is wondering the same thing. Yes, there is differences between the Japanese and U.S. versions. The main difference is the track lengths and the track names are different. For DKC there are no fanfares so instead it has 7 arranged versions. For DKC 2 the track lengths are shorter. For DKC 3 it includes Cascade Capers and a few fanfares which the U.S. one doesn't have. Some people say Donkey Kong Country for the Japanese OST since that's what alot of people know it by even though the actual name of the game is Super Donkey Kong in Japan.

Awesome. Thanks.

Your welcome! :)

EDIT: Also added tracklists and I subscribed so I won't miss anything!

Awesome, thanks a lot! I wasn't aware until just a few minutes ago that there were arrange tracks and listened to the first two on YouTube and am hooked. ;)

Shame "Mining Melancholy" isn't on any of the OSTs considering, oh, I dunno, it's the best song in the game.

Has anyone noticed any sound discrepancies between the various official CDs? What I mean is, for CDs that share the same songs, are any longer or shorter than others, mixed better, better mastering... I suppose I'll find out before long, but just wondering if anyone's noticed any such things.

I always wondered the same thing... Nintendo must not like Mining Melancholy for some reason.

For the CD quality, I noticed that the American ones sound exactly as if you were playing the game and the Japanese ones have nice remastered quality. It all depends on what your taste is I guess.

One actual DIFFERENCE I've noticed is Cascade Capers...
You know that part that goes "DUN.... DUN DUN..... DUN.... DUN DUN"?

That part plays again, over the part just after that on the OST... I'll get an OST to show you what I mean...

And for the difference in times, I'll post the tracklist in the US order (with US names) as more people would recognize "Lockjaw's Saga" rather than "Bilge Diving"... for example...

Sure. That would be helpful. Thanks.

Oddly enough, I'm finding that the Super Donkey Kong 2 OST sounds a little worse than the US one, but SDK3 is definitely an improvement over the US release. I wish all three had been mastered the same way as the third; it still sounds like the game music just with punched up levels for a better CD experience.

In regard to the SDK Jungle Fantasy CD, we got so gypped with the US release. :p If these cool arranged versions were already available, why use only one—the least interesting one—and put it almost immediately after the game version? As a kid I was always puzzled by that arrangement and its placement on the cassette tape. "I just heard this song a minute ago...but it has different sounds."

So yeah, the Japanese CDs for the first and third games top the US ones for sure, but the Nintendo of America DKC2 CD sounds better to me. For the Japanese CD, any idea if all those 2-or-more-second gaps at the beginning of each track are part of the actual CD or introduced while ripping? It's a curious detail that the tracks don't start automatically, so that makes the CD mastering even less appealing, heh. I haven't listened enough to really see if there are any song differences like shorter/longer lengths and that; I'll have to put the actual English titles in parentheses to make that easier.

Oh yeah The Ultimate Koopa, these are the romanized names so I thought it would be easier to read than in Japanese... I would have done it myself but I was working and it would take too long to type on a cell phone. :P So if you still want to make that list, I'll give you credit in the OP and reputation points.

I had a gamerip version of Cascade Capers a long time ago, but it's been so long I probably wouldn't know a difference so a comparison would help me with that too...

Hi,
For Donkey Kong Country, there is another OST in Japan without the 7 arranged music, but with fanfares, except Stage Clear.

And a beautiful misspelling : CRONKY KONG PAGE instead of CRANKY KONG PAGE
