THE KID (unreleased score by Marc Shaiman) (lossy, ripped to FLAC)

In this movie from 2000, Bruce Willis is facing mid-life crisis and has his life transformed when he meets an 8-year old version of himself. Together they take a journey into the past to discover the root of his unhappiness. For this sentimental family film, Shaiman created one of his typically tuneful and charming scores. No commercial soundtrack was ever released, but there was apparently a promo CD. This may be it, but with what appears to be a fan-made cover. There are 23 tracks (some short!) totaling about 54 minutes. Apparently Jerry Goldsmith was originally set to create this score but dropped out at the last minute due to creative differences. Shaiman had 2 weeks to complete his version, and that time constraint has been used to explain why it's not one of his best. Listen and decide for yourself!

Good (not great) stereo sound. No dialog or sfx.
Tau Analyzer indicated all tracks on this CD to be lossy.
Ripped to FLAC using XLD.

Any chance you could re-upload this? I tried downloading it, and all I got was some un-openable document called TK-MS.7z. I've been looking for this forever. Thanks!

The link is valid and you downloaded the correct folder, you just need the right program to open it to see the individual audio tracks. And don't forget you'll need the password that's shown in the spoiler where you found the link.
For opening a .7z archive, most PC people use 7-zip. On a MAC there's Stuffit Expander. Both are free.

You are also going to need a program to convert files to another format. "The Kid" is Mp3 so it might already be in what you need. But a lot of music at ffshrine is offered in FLAC and you will need a program to convert them to something else, like Mp3 Many PC-users like foobar 2000. Ask for help if you need it!

Fist of all, thank you yepsa from the bottom of my heart.

This movie is one of the milestones of my youth, and its music.. well in two weeks Shaiman created something I was still searching almost 20yrs later and which I still remember note after note.

My question by the way goes straight to your source. Did you realize how could that cd be lossy? If I can ask, Where or how did you obtain it? May be possible, according to you, to find a non lossy recording somewhere?

Tanks again!!

EDIT: it seems that a semi official release exists. I found some info and pictures in this weird, enigmatic and old-fashioned website called rarescores.info... Shaiman is i the "Other Composers 2" section.

I trade scores with a couple of people and "The Kid" was one of the earliest I got. It was labelled as "lossy" to begin with, but I always run all discs through Tau Analyzer to check anyway. If the results are uncertain I run them through EAC which does a more detailed analysis. I have never seen the score to "The Kid" available in lossless. The website you refer to is interesting. They make no mention of whether something is lossy or not, so I don't know that they actually have physical copies of what they list. And they make their own covers. Because of the number of tracks and timing, what they show for "The Kid" seems to be the same as I offer here. They also list the unreleased music to "My Giant" and "Simon Birch" which are the same as I have posted here at FFS. I also posted Shaiman's "Alex & Emma" but that one IS available in lossless and I plan to get that soon and replace the lossy one I already posted here.
