Hey everyone!
I don't know if this deserved a new thread, but i wanted to post for the 2nd time on this wonderful forum a little something i made in regards to Hans Zimmer's work, again... :)

For all of you who might be Batman fans or have simply watched the third trailer to the third installment of Nolan's Trilogy, i am pleased to share with you my own personal ear-recreation of Hans Zimmer's The Dark Knight Rises's Trailer 3 score...
As you already guessed, this piece is much shorter than the other one i made, but i still feel it was a nice territory to re-visit, because the scope of it is much bigger & melodic than the prologue! Hearing & watching for the first time what Hans Zimmer & Christopher Nolan created for this trailer was for me another of many examples for how music makes a visual experience so much more powerful & uplifting...
This was all home-made cooking, but I sincerely hope that i have been able to faithfully reproduce the amazing composition done by (as i see him) one of the great musical geniuses of our time. I can only wish you enjoy these 2 minutes of Hans Zimmer's cinematic music...

Many thanks for listening! Alexandre

Take care!

I had the feeling you'd come around again eventually. Again, great work!!

I still wonder what's Zimmer going to end up creating at the end.

excellent work, only the choir is for my taste a bit too loud. if you can put the volume of it a bit more down, it would be fantastic.

Hey MasterZPrime,

thanks a lot!

Well here are a few technical aspects i can share with you:

I use Cubase 5 as VST host sequencer for my instruments!

I generally like to make use of all the most known libraries available on the market, such as LA Scoring Strings, (ProjectSAM), CineSamples, East West, Spectrasonics products and so much more, but much more recently for the electronics parts, i love the synth plugin precisely used extensively by Hans Zimmer on Inception & Dark Knight called (u-he Zebra), but the most important part for me is to figure out how to tweak the instruments in a more universal way so that it doesn't feel like it's coming out from a sample library.

The Dynamics (Volume, Expression, Modulation) are the key, and they are all mixed in Cubase.

I also make sure i understand what amount of reverb is needed to the piece to control the size of the orchestra, and to make sure there is a constant balance between a dry-wet mix. Especially here with the chant, i made a combination of different "Deshay-Basara" recordings so that both the sound felt close to be heard, but more dominantly far to give this gigantesque "doom" feel (you get the picture)...

For this track, i actually specifically tried to use percussions in an unconvential way. You can hear the well-known pop-rock drums playing (the toms & cymbal, mainly), but in a funny way i also improvised and combined quite a good amount of unorthodox percussions for a single hit, such as a couch, a hot bathtub and a toy ball...

This may seem ridiculous and unexpected as you read it here, but i can tell you this was actually the wisest choice or the most appropriate placement i could make so that it would sound like the military toms & bass drums you hear in the trailer...

Thanks for asking!

Awesome piece. Especially the chants. I love choirs. I hope he uses this in his real score too. So all the other composers and trailer composers have something to copy in the next year. ^^

Inception gave us the horn effect that anybody uses nowadays, sherlock gave us this gypsy instrumentation, dark night the 'plusating violins' that all new soundtracks are going for and angel and demos massive doom choirs.

Anyway, gonna cut the last part as a ringtone and watch the people on the train when my phone goes for the first time :)

NOW it's perfect mate. hearing it over and over and it's a superb job. Thanks for changing the volume of the choir. with that done, it's freaking awesome now :)

just a question. you think you would be able to modify a track from the thin red line from Hans Zimmer? it's called journey to the line. In the soundtrack it hasn't any drum in it, but in the movie it has drums in the cue and i always wanted to hear that track how it is in the movie. and seeing your amazing talent I am sure you would be the right person who could get it perfectly. it's just adding the drum loop to the track, but it's hard to find the right drums for it... :(

Thanks again everyone! You are all showing me such a tremendous amount of respect, i don't always feel i am that worthy of it!

And thanks Thrustmaster, it means a lot!

Now about your question, I went back and watched the assault scene on "Thin Red Line". If you mean that scene! Yes you're right about the drums! Those are mostly taikos!

Now I won't do whole recreation requests, but your request got me interested, as for this, as you said, the actual track "Journey To The Line" can be kept with adding just the percussions sections you like...

I will do my best to add that driving touch you miss

This time, I also am definitely willing & encouraging to expand (in this thread or another) this community's interests, as quite a few people might be interested in knowing more about the world of MIDI, softwares, samples, virtual instruments (VST), etc...

Although i am far from being a master at anything, and certainly not in technology samples...

But if or when we do this I also feel it would be just as profitable that we all talk a little about the key aspect, which is how the orchestra/orchestration works (the different sections: strings, brass, percussion, woodwinds, even synths etc...) and understand how it is used by our great Hollywood composers and how each other compare in their use of the orchestra...

I can't thank you all enough for listening so actively to my recreation, i admire what you all do on this forum. This just simply shows a community nothing short of passionate musical people... :)

If nothing comes my way,
I will be back in "James Horner-mode" this time hopefully...

FFDream...did you pull that from the stems on the main TDKR site (www.thedarkknightrises.com/contest/assets/audio.zip)?

I feel like someone should put all those elements into one piece.

I agree with Iambodigidy
We should see it all in one piece, but the separate cues are cool.
