For the record, the 320kbps files are not 320, they're like... 283kbps or something weird. Might need to re-rip them.

JonC
05-05-2012, 05:47 AM
They look like they are probably VBR, variable bit rate. They are designed to optimize bit rate based on content. The debates of it versus 320 are long and bitter, but there are many who find that the sound is at least as good as 320 while using less space.
It could be argued that the thread needs to be relabeled, but I, for one, do not believe that the album needs to be reripped.
If 320 is that important, you might consider downloading the flac version and doing your own conversion.
JonC

Amanda
05-05-2012, 06:53 AM
I would not bet you could tell the difference between them. ut, as for labeling one's library, these are not 320. Looks to average closer to 256. Only of note if you are documenting your stuff. I bet there is no difference in sound.

Thanks for the FLAC! Did anyone else catch Cap's theme in that one scene? Did Silvestri integrate Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk's themes from their respective films? I didn't notice it during my viewing, it'd be a wasted opportunity if Silvestri didn't include them as well. Really like Avengers' theme itself, heh, caught myself humming it afterwards.

Did you use any of your themes for “Captain America” in “The Avengers?”

Oh yes, absolutely. However, there weren’t many places where it was completely literal. But it’s interesting that we even used the theme that way in “Captain America,” because a little of his theme goes a long, long way. We wanted to really walk that line without falling into an overt use of his material, but still have it there as a resource when it was appropriate, for instance when he leaps out of a plane to confronts Loki for the first time. There were also little places when Captain America makes his entrance, or when he’s in the middle of a fight scene, where there will be references to his theme, yet not using it fully. Again, a little of it goes a long way.

Was there any talk of referencing other Marvel movie composers themes in “Avengers,” like the ones that Patrick Doyle and John Debney had written for “Thor” and “Iron Man 2?”

There was never a conversation about any of that, or even the Captain America theme for instance. There were only conversations about the desire to have a definable theme for The Avengers as a group. We knew that if we were to have a theme for every character in this movie, the music would get very clunky and intrusive. So I stayed away from all of that. I did come up with a motif for Loki, but that’s because he was the principle villain in the film. Midway through the writing process Joss had seen some scenes with The Black Widow where he wanted to explore music that was a bit more thematic for her, which I did. But the one moment that everyone was anticipating was the scene in the middle of New York City, when all of The Avengers are standing there. We all knew that whatever The Avengers theme was going to be, it had better work in that spot!

I certainly caught the partial quotes of the Captain America theme. But I wish he would have done some full quotes of themes. I wouldn't have found it to be intrusive, just a better overall scoring. Shame even Silvestri thinks proper development of multiple themes is intrusive. The score was used great in the film :)

Having now seen the film, I can better appreciate Silvestri's score. Honestly, I can somewhat see their point regarding using all the character themes with the old themes being a part of the heroes' old and separate identities, while in The Avengers they forge a new and united identity. Of course, the old themes could have been dropped for the new, unified theme in the final battle, and perhaps such an approach would have yielded greater results, but I can understand why they followed the path they did.

At least the score is noticeably and truly orchestral, even in the film! :)

EDIT: Also, it's so nice to be able to hear this without the horrible, horrible warbling that plagues the digital download version. Someone should consider a class action lawsuit against that crap. It's intentionally marring the product.

Happy for ya, Bugz. I saw the midnight opening show Friday morning, my first midnight show of 2012. How many times have you see it now? Lol. I think I wanna try it in IMAX 3D, but there's no "legit" theatres near me, the closest one is 2 hours away. How did the 3D look? And it was converted, wasn't it? I usually avoid 3D, especially if the film wasn't shot in native 3D, but I have to agree that the 3D work in Avengers is pretty damn solid. (But the film is good no matter the format, which is more important!)

i had watched it 3 times. first time it opened in an IMAX theater which is about 2 hrs drive, ticket price is about 4 times higher but all of it i'd say worth it! lol

last 2 was with 2D. the 3d blew me away, sound, sfx, comfort and the score is much clearer and better heard.

That's what I did, 106 is the cost of an IMAX 3D ticket down here, while the average ticket costs between 50 to 70. And a half a tank of gas is about 500. All that in pesos down here, imagine a second those were prices in dollars.

Wait, you saw Alice in Wonderland multiple times? That movie was so bad, and the IMAX 3D was terrible. I only go to IMAX when the film was SHOT with an IMAX camera, and even then the film has to be the type that I am very hyped for. I'll be seeing TDKR for sure in IMAX but I think that is the only big film this summer that is worthy of IMAX. Even though my boyfriend is often paying for the movie I don't want to have him pay the crazy IMAX price unless it is really worth it. Otherwise I get the discount tickets for 2D shows before noon and they are only $6 each. We saw Mission Impossible 4 in IMAX and it was awesome because some of the key scenes were shot in IMAX, too bad the film itself was slightly disappointing.

I saw a lot more IMAX movies before the theaters started to charge extra. I used to be able to get these awesome regal cinemas tickets at Costco and they let me use them for IMAX for a while. Sometime after the newest Star Trek film they started to charge extra $4 on top of that, making it $12 or so per ticket. Of course this is digital IMAX and not the traditional huge circular dome IMAX, but it is still great quality.

I absolutely love the second back cover! On what kind of paper should I print this on?

Thanks so much for uploading this! I find it weird that several months after the film has released, this is the only place where I can find the Intrada version.

A bit late to the party, but could someone please re-up this, either 320 kbps or the FLAC version? Thanks in advance. Cheers..
