It's a pain in the butt because you have to grind for a while and play more card games than most magic: the gathering players play in a year...

But have any of you gotten Squall's best weapon, the lionheart, in disc 1?

It definitely made much of the game a bit too easy for me.

I never did. You can only get Adamantines from the Minotaur card or it's a drop when fighting Adamantoises above level 30. So either you waste a really good and rare card or you level up to level 30 to fight Adamantoises, and if you're level thirty on disc 1 then you're already pissing past all the enemies, bosses and regular. Then you have to get 12 Pulse Ammo, which you have to refine out of two Energy Crystal. But you only refine one Energy Crystal out of 10 Elnoyle cards. So you need 20 Elnoyle cards. Honestly, I played the shit out of the card game, but I could never be bothered to get twenty Elnoyle cards. Seriously, the game is already broken enough as it is. Why do people want to exploit it more?

Nah, I stuck with the revolver all the way up to when I fought Ultima Weapon and Omega Weapon.

I did. Its actually not as hard as people make it out to be. There are creatures in Squalls second dream sequence that you can mug laser cannons off. Those refine into 5 pulse ammo each. The creatures name is elastiod. The screen with the huge catwalk, right after the room with the detonator, has the most chance of encountering one.

Because you can. Is there ever a different reason necessary?

Considering you really don't need to use the Lionheart limit break outside of Ultima and Omega (then again, not really for Ultima), there really isn't any real reason to get it that early on if you ask me. And that's not even when you exploit the junction system.

Plus, it just makes the gameplay EVEN MORE of a joke. It's by no means necessary unless you can't figure out the junction system. If you want to completely dominate the battles, you're not going to have any fun because it won't be any sort of challenge. And if that's the case, you're better off getting the AP needed for Enc-None so you don't waste your time.

I agree with the fun and challenge being ruined and I personally wouldn't do this (I enjoy progressively upgrading the gunblade throughout the game). In a different approach though, I guess it is considered a "challenge" to get the Lion Heart on disk 1 just like it is a challenge to get all the cards in the game, so you can actually say you did it. And I guess some people would like a nice shiney blue gunblade with wings on it.

Drama.

I never refine rare cards. It's just not worth it.

You can get them back from the Card Queen in Disc Four near the crashed Escape Pod.

A treasure you can't throw away is a trap. -Ancient Sithi saying, and no I'm not talking about Star Wars

Hence if you too afraid to refine a card just because it is rare, its only holding you back in the long run. And the minotaur card isn't even that great compared to the other cards. Plus as Darth Raven points out you can always win them back from the card queen in disc 4 as long as you have completed the card quest. I refined minotaur and gilgamesh as soon as I got them as the items they give are worth more to me than the cards themselves.
