Thanks olafolaf for this great score, much appreciated!

Hey, I'm the only one who does hear a lot of Alexander Courage in this score? There are several instances here when I find myself in some "lost" tv score from Star Trek's first season. Alex North must have had a major influence on his contemporaries, including "Sandy" Courage! (Just close your eyes and start cue no. 14 "Cattle Drive"! There you go, that's the beginning of the main title from Star Trek!)

I love Star Trek music, wonderful observation :) When the trumpets set in, that also reminds me of Eidelmanns Star Trek VI, an the flutes of Sol Kaplan's music for TOS' Paradise Syndrome. Of course your discovery is much more prominent throughout, it's cool listening to it that way, THX!!!!

Yes, olafolaf, the flutes in "The Paradise Syndrome" are pure magic, but they were composed by Gerald Fried! (Sol Kaplan composed two other episodes: the intense and dramatic score for "The Enemy Within", and his master-piece for "The Doomsday Machine" with its pre-Jaws two-note motive for the planet eater, which may have inspired John Williams).

And of course all this goes back to Les Baxters - Master Of The World, it was very influencial :)
Okies. So much for my showing off knowing Soundtracks, lol, now its your turn again

Well, to be honest, I'm not much of a chess-gamer, but I DO know my trek composers - in most cases, I'm able to even identify the composer of the various tracked cues for episodes, who had no original scores, so my apology for uncovering your mistake! I just felt Gerald Fried, who turned 84 just six weeks ago, deserved the proper credit for this episode. It's such a rich and wonderful score, which was never released in its original form, alas! We only have the fan-made digital bootlegs for the complete trek tos stuff by Verisimilitude (who did a helluvajob, btw! Thanks, Veri!!) and the re-recorded suites by Tony Bremner (Label X), including the suite for "Paradise Syndrome", but that's better than nothing! My hope is that someday the missing original scores will get a proper release, like the Ron Jones Box from STTNG! Heck, even the guys over at Star Trek Phase 2 are using the unreleased stuff, so it must be possible somehow! And there are other fine scores left unreleased from Gerald Fried (e.g. "Catspaw", "Friday's Child"), Alex Courage (e.g. "The Man Trap", "The Enterprise Incident", "Plato's Stepchildren"), Fred Steiner (e.g. "Who Mourns for Adonais?", "Spock's Brain", "Elaan of Troyius"), George Duning (e.g. "Metamorphosis", "Return To Tomorrow"), and those examples are only those scores without some re-recording (mostly by Fred Steiner himself and Tony Bremner), so there's much material waiting for a proper release! Let's hope the best!

But I digress, this is, of course, a thread for "Alex North - Cheyenne Autumn", which somehow, strangely reminds me of some trek music... is it possible there was some influence on some of the original Star Trek composers? Just wondering...

Oh, buts alright to correct - after all: Who want to stay wrong? :)

Ah. And Since you like Gerald Fried so much, i patched together some score parts of his work on Dynasty (TV Series into a single continuous track PASSWORD IS "BOB":

Would love it if someone got around to releasing a better-sounding, more complete version of this.

Just got the DVD out from the local library, and the Overture here sounds NOTHING like the one there.

(Merely an observation, thanks for the share.)

Alex North is far, far more than just "vital". I'm so happy finding people who make it possible for us to know works of his we had forgotten or, worse, never knew.
