Need For Speed - The Run

Platform: Xbox360
Tracks: 62
Composers: Brian Tyler,Mick Gordon

After weeks and weeks of excruciating work its finally done! The most proper rip of this game you can get!!, all segments have to be analyzed via ingame gameplay as to properly combine them because of the lack of filenames it has, however the archives of the levels did have the names but as to match them up accurate there is no way, but i have copid the main names for the tracks 98% accurate!! Segments are also properly combined based on how they are played dynamically ingame so lots of playthroughs and recording via line in had to be done! I have had restarted this rip several times, that's how difficult it is! So desregard and delete that crap rip that i posted a while back, its not proper and its very bad! this by far is better! This is one of my favorite brian tyler scores and its probably his best!! regarding his vgm scores. Its very inspired by fast and the furious movies he has done and has loads of great Themes!! :D So i hope you enjoy and say thanks because this was quite hell to do! :)

Thank you very much, I really prefer in-game versions of that music over album ones. OrangeC did a nice job arranging the segments even including the ending for each track. Although there are some flaws, e.g. Timed Race tracks are missing "time-running-out" segments.

You can extract the music from PC version using these Python scripts: https://mega.nz/#!WdxTHBib!auaBPUaPq_zD_aqxsLwkRdXMVqFBbHdkonazpJixNN8 (require Python 2.7 (https://www.python.org/)).
I forgot the username of the author, he posted them on bfeditor.org forums a while ago but they're dead now hence why I'm reposting the scripts.
You can use these scripts with PS3 and PC versions of NFSTR but not Xbox 360 version (dumper script fails to extract data from sb files) but I did add EA XMA support to decoder script to extract music from Xbox 360 demo.
Before running each script, edit it and set the correct paths. First you need to use "dumper" script to extract the data from .sb files. Then use "fb2decoder" script to decode data. It will name each decoded chunk according to the name of the asset node which refers it.
Note that it will write all channels into one file so you'll need to use an audio editor to mix them properly. Race music consists of 2 stereo tracks, one has drums, the other one has other instruments. Menu music and cutscene sounds are 5.1 surround audio, you gotta downmix it to stereo properly. Channel order is Front Left, Center, Front Right, Back Left, Back Right, LFE.
Another issue is that something like half of Chunk IDs are obfuscated so you'll need to run decoder script twice, once with ChunkIdObfuscation set to false and once more with ChunkIdObfuscation set to true.

I've actually made a full rip of PC version music a while ago and uploaded it to YouTube but I've never got around to posting it here for some reason. YouTube playlist link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9Csb0j-Ww0jVhAeMB51SfAZwGRvigpRR

What did you use to extract .sb files? Neither the above Python scripts nor QuickBMS scripts are capable of extracting most of .sb files from Xbox 360 version. They do extract ChunksAudio but not the level .sb files which contain the required data about audio chunks.

music2850
10-26-2015, 06:08 PM
Apart from chunksaudio.sb, I have extracted chunks.sb using frostbite.bms script in quickbms. And using eaconv.exe on the extracted chunks from chunks.sb, they convert to the intro video, credits video and also the level intro videos. I have used ea_multi_xma.exe on the chunks from chunksaudio.sb but I do not get all the files into .stream, most of the errors are "cannot read at block 0x100800 or cannot read flags at 0x100800", and further using a script XMA_transform_2015-10-22.bms on the .stream files, I get .xma files which convert to wav files using towav.exe. I really wanted the individual segments as this has been the best audio tracks that nfs has produced, previously nfs carbon held this place. Thanks to you today I have what I have been waiting for since the release of this game. I thought Xbox 360 version would have been easy to convert like the method you mentioned for converting the pc version, so I asked you for further steps. I have what I wanted, so I can just wait if someone finds a way to convert the Xbox chunks. However, a few of the Xbox chunks that convert to wav have very good music loops which I will look for in the PC version. hopefully I find them, but it's gonna take a while since there are lots of files now, mostly all are 5.1 riff wavs and I have to demux them all into individual wavs for mixing them to produce nice music. Once again my friend I thank you for your help.

Thing is, most of the audio chunks in Xbox 360 version have different starting offsets and since you cannot extract .sb files from _c4\Levels folder from Xbox 360 version which contain the "asset nodes" with chunk info, the only way is to open each file with a hex editor and look for the specific hex pattern. And even then, you can't find out which track each chunk belongs to and which order they play in without data from _c4\Levels. Trust me, don't bother with Xbox 360 version, all audio there is same as in PC version.
Python script handily names all files and puts them into separate folders. Like I mentioned before all instrumental race music consists of 4 channels, if you import a WAV file into Audacity you should merge them into 2 stereo channels (top two and bottom two).

Cutscene audio tracks contain sound effects AND speech so they're not really good for listening outside of the game.

my friend, if I don't want to link the ebx script with the chunk files and I simply want to analyse and convert all the individual files into wav without mixing them up, how do I do it by editing the fb2decoder script for python. I ask you this since I have noticed that lots of files are just being left with the error "chunk not found" and the dumper seems to have done it's work correctly as I now have 29 gb of data with me waiting to be decoded by the right tools.

Assuming you run fb2decoder script with ebxFolder set to dump_path_here\bundles\ebx\_c4\sound\music and ChunkIdObfuscation set to false you should only get "Chunk not found" error on one file and that's just loading screen wind sound. You should get all decoded music in outputFolder.

Firstly, never publish your e-mail on forums and such if you don't want to get spammed. Secondly, do you want full tracks or original individual segments? The latter get decoded into WAV format by Python decoder script so their total size is over 6 GB.

Strange, are you sure that that you've specified the correct ebxFolder? You should have folders like _c4\sound\music\songs\ab_tr_reg2\ which contain segments 5 to 20 seconds each.

my bad, I have all the music files with the segments. I am curious to run a script on the chunks so that they can be analysed, decoded and converter into wav files without comparing them to ebx for any references. This is say because I want to decode the chunks I have from Xbox version chunksaudio.sb which has 330mb data and exactly 774 files but which are not being decoded properly with ea_multi_xma.exe checkout this link which might give you the idea about what exactly I am looking for.
https://www.sendspace.com/filegroup/msyJ1nSwk%2BSr%2BXYSndkdow

Also, can you tell me where to find the music from the last cutscene before credits where Jack and Sam are sitting and having conversation in a coffee shop at Brooklyn.

1) AFAIK, there's no program\script to decode a specific chunk in PC version and Xbox 360 version has that problem with offsets I mentioned earlier. You need ebx files to get the correct offset for each chunk (that includes PC version). Thankfully, every single chunk from ChunksAudio.sb is linked to a ebx file from _c4\sound. As a clue, ChunksAudio.sb contains music, ambient audio and audio from cutscenes that don't have speech.

2) http://mick-gordon.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/NFSTR_portfolio_double-down.mp3 You can also get the audio track from the game but it has speech and sound effects. IIRC, it's located in a subfolder of NIS_Story_English or something like that. Note that all cutscene audio is 5.1 surround.

Don't run the script on the whole sound folder it will take forever to decode everything and the total size of all decoded audio will be enormous. What exactly are you looking for? All music is in _c4\sound\music and you should have it all decoded now, cutscene audio is in NIS_Story and NIS_Story_English (forgot where exactly those folders are).

I'm 100% sure it's Timed Race failure loop, check folders in Songs/Race/Timed_Race. Also, if you just open WAV file in audio player you'll only hear the first two channels (drums), you need to use audio editor to mix channels properly, see my previous posts.

A few minutes, I think. You should wait for the three arrows to appear in Python shell, that indicates that the script is complete.
