I went to the cinema today, to see a manga film, "Spirited Away," and I really enjoyed it. The story was pretty damn weird, but I loved the whole sprit place, it looked amazing. There were also some really good characters in it, and I found myself absorbed in it, so that the two or so hours it lasted were really quick.

Has anyone else seen this film, and if so what did you think of it?

I saw Spirited Away on DVD a little while back - I found it amazing. I was drawn into the world... just, everything that happened amazed me.

It's been too long since i've seen it to go into any detail - scenes that have stuck in my mind is the "Rich and powerful spirit" who was filled with junk from the human world, and the main dragon good guy...

The only gripe I have with it is that it seems to build up, build up, build up...and then climax/end. It's all over too quickly...all the magic and wonder seems to fade off a little.

But apart from that, a top film.

I really loved that movie. My mom refuses to buy it sadly. Everyone else in my family except my older sister wants to own it. I believe it even won best animation of the year.

Dude, Tact, I remember you. You like... haven't posted in a long time, right?

Anyway, Spirited Away is of course amazing, as is everything by Hayao Miyazaki. You should look into his other films if you liked Spirited Away.

yeah i think its been 6 or so months since i was here last time. and before that, its been just as long.

compared to how active i used to be back in 2000, its almost been ages. what year do you remember me from? ;P i have to ask by year because i go on and off and try to make a presence or what not but the only people i know here are tekno and david. and i haven't seen david in a long ass time. :p punk! is atom still here? i bet he is. :p

well i'm totally off topic now. lol. pm if you wanna.

as for spirited away. i got angry at my sister for making me see the "making of" because to me, the characters were so magical and amazing, that to find out that the voice was done by some boy band singer or soemthign like that would just piss the fuck out of me. lol. and so i saw who made the voice for kuhaku and i punched my sister for ruining the magic. lol.

Eh, I don't know what year anything was. I just remember you posting in the anime forum a lot at one point. Atom isn't around at the moment. I dunno what happened to him.

Hey TK...

What other films has Hayao Miyazaki done?

All the big ones:

Nausica: Valley of the Wind
Castle in the Sky
Princess Mononoke
My Neighbor Totoro
Kiki's Delivery Service

Nausica and Castle in the Sky I haven't seen. I'll get to them one of these days. The other 3 are really really worth it. My favorite is Princess Mononoke. In fact I think that might be my favorite movie ever.

Miyazaki has also done some smaller projects, and had less prominent roles in some others, but I'm not really familiar with them. One thing you might want to check out that he wasn't involved in at all is Grave of the Fireflies, which was directed by a long-time partner of his who is also really good, and made by the same animation studio as all his movies.

I downloaded Spirited Away before it was released here. Totally loved it. I lent it to my friend who isnt really into anime and he said it was great too but really weird. Lent him tons of other anime so maybe he will become a fan soon. If he gets of his lazy ass and actualy watches them that is.

it is really good!!
but i like princess mononoke better. In spirited Away - they did the end pretty much fast, they could've put extra 15 mins so the end wouldn't have been that short.

Since someone brought this thread back, I thought I'd mention I saw Castle in the Sky recently and it was fucking brilliant, probably my second favorite Miyazaki film now after Princess Mononoke. Just make sure you see it on DVD so you can watch it with subtitles, because I hear the English dubbing is miserable (though I haven't tried it myself.)

I wasn't that excited by the premise of Spirited Away, but it just blew me away. It was amazing. Not as good as Princess Mononoke, but still amazing.
