it really should have been just an 18 track release, imo.

Isn't that the song that the lead singer of Korn had a hand in? If so I agree, that song is crap for a Silent Hill game.

yeah, that's the one. i'm sure the lyrics relate to the game in terms of context and everything but it's just not Silent Hill material.

Yeah! Big thanks for this. I've really wanted to hear Daniel Licht's contribution to Silent Hill, and even though I don't doubt his skill in setting that special mood, I'm going to miss Mr. Yamaoka's guitar riffs and the wonderful vocal songs.

It's a real shame that there are no McGlynn tracks. The Jonathan Davis track is okay (not really good but, yeah it could've been worse). Daniel Licht did some good work on the soundtrack and I actually enjoy it more in its full form than any Silent Hill soundtrack tbh.

But ehhh yeah, Akira's style was iconic and he made some really outstanding tracks throughout the series. Daniel Licht obviously tried to copy some of his style into his works, so I'm not complaining at all. Haven't played the game yet, but I think it will fit the game just right.

I will get this evening, but from what i ve seen right now, im not sure what kind of music it would be, i remember Daniel Licht only from Hellraiser 4 ( i was never watch Dexter ), and i get it that every composer who replacing someones work have a real hard times not to screw up, but still i dont know what i may expect from this... About song from Korn, i was listen that from official trailer and inspite of fact, that is not sound like Silent hill track, its good in own way, it just need to be taking only like a single and open minded... Well after some hours i found out if its good... Thank you, by the way....

Thank you so much comrade!! I was reading about it yesterday and was surprised to learn that Licht was doing the score. He did Hellraiser. And i have always felt that Hellraiser and Silent Hill are like twins...or at least some sort of cosmic siblings.
Anyway, I am very glad to now be able to sample it. So thanks a lot! :)

I totally agree with you. I really wanted some of those wonderful McGlynn vocal songs (for what it's worth, I know she's doing the vocals in the chanting songs on the soundtrack, which are awesome by the way). I've listened to the OST some more and I'm really pleased with the outcome. There aren't a whole lot of tracks, but what's there is very mood-setting and blends in with the Silent Hill feeling we all know and love. I thought the choice of using another composer was going to ruin everything about Silent Hill, and even though we've lost some of the magic over the years since the second and third games were released, this is evidence enough that this is one uncanny old town that's still worth going to :)

Asking since VGMdb has McGlynn in the notes field (credited for featured vocals) of the Downpour album.

it's possible VGMdb lists her since early reports mention her involvement, just not specifically for any tracks.

Eh, Akira's work Homecoming and Shattered Memories' OSTs was really subpar and he's been known for his usage of sampling while composing the music so it's not as if he came up with everything all by himself. His last good OST was for Origins. The Korn only plays on the Press Start screen and only if you let the game sit idle. It's not really worth complaining about and it's at least much better than the crappy songs they've made recently.

Daniel Licht's score, however, it absolutely phenomenal. Different, but very fitting for Silent Hill. Even Yamaoka tried to do different. He's definitely a suitable replacement for Yamaoka. And it's not like Silent Hill needs vocal tracks anyway. SH2 didn't have any vocal tracks whatsoever, but that didn't stop the soundtrack from being great.

It's not really worth complaining about and it's at least much better than the crappy songs they've made recently.it's the internet, everything is worth complaining about. from what you've said, if the song plays during the start screen then i seriously have to question why it's even included on the album even further. i could understand if it served as backing to a cutscene or something but man, it just seems like it's there simply to say "yeah, we did this".

i don't really get all the hate for the actual score though. from what i heard, it's like Licht took influence from Yamaoka's work on the others but didn't go the route of carbon copying everything he ever did.

So give it a listen. Of course Licht doesn't just copy Yamaoka. Hell, the intro along with the music accompanying it is probably the best in the series. McGlynn does the female voice in Intro Perp Walk.

Besides, SH2 had Angel's Thanatos playing during the ending credits after one of the endings (which some fans could probably find more "immersion breaking" than any Press Start screen song) and that track didn't exactly fit in with the rest of the SH2 OST.

The Korn song is just a small "whatever" on an otherwise great game. Personally, the fans I can't stand are the ones who reject any SH game not made by Japanese team. Some even bordering on outright racism by declaring only Japanese people could handle and understand Silent Hill or horror in general when Team Silent was heavily influenced by American horror. Heck, half the fans who name drop "Team Silent" so much probably couldn't name any of the people on the staff aside from Yamaoka without having to do a Google search.

Not talking about you or anybody in the topic in particular. Just speaking in general about the insane fandom since it's on my mind. Anyway, thanks for the uploads, people.

Angel's Thanatos - i found it jarring as well. i don't know about immersion breaking, but it definitely didn't scream subtlety in execution or anything.

Thanks for sharing that clip FancyTorque, I didn't know Licht was making the soundtrack for that game as well. Well, after the soundtrack for Downpour, I'm convinced that he'll do a good job here as well. Listening to it on youtube right now :)

Wow, goosebumps. McGlynn never fails to amaze me! This is what Mr. Licht should have understood from the beginning, that every good Silent Hill game needs at least one vocal song written for the game itself. Although if you listen to the full gamerip from Downpour, there are some vocal songs there, but they're not specifically made for the game, but they're very well chosen by Vatra/Daniel Licht!

How does anything in that response make me come off as a prick? :/

Neg

Maybe because it makes people who only like the original "trilogy" come off as closed-minded. Granted, they have every right to like what they like, but I would hope it's because they've played at least a couple of the rest themselves and have judged them on their own. Not written them off because of the opinions of others.

My all-time favorites are 2 and 3, yes, but I absolutely adore 0rigins, Homecoming and especially Shattered Memories. Not saying the franchise will be amazing forever (it won't), but that the newer, more experimental entries are extremely worthwhile and people should take a chance on them without closing themselves off needlessly because they aren't by Team Silent, like you yourself have stated.
