when i try to do the cheat for the 0:0:0 seconds for the choco race, it says to leave at 1:55, and get hit at exactly 2:00, but when i try to get hit at 2, the time stops at 1:59.9, so its impossible for me to get the cheat... please help!

If you're referring to the cheat that I think you're referring to, I read that cheat only works in the Japanese version of the game.

is it just me, or is the celestial weapon quests the hardest sidequests ever in a final fantasy game....i mean honestly...under 0.0 seconds....200 dodges....without cheating/guides, who would figure this crap out?

Agent0042
02-07-2004, 06:47 PM
200 dodges is damn boring, but not that difficult to do once you know the trick. 0.0.0 is hella hard but I did eventually get it. But what's really freaking annoying is @$#! Macalania Woods Butterfly Quest. Afters hours upon hours of trying, I still cannot get that one.

Arcanine78
02-09-2004, 05:13 PM
That butterfly quest is damn annoying! the grid map in the upper left corner of the screen doesn't even help. seriously, it's just chance to run past a red 'cause there's little or no way to tell how to avoid it!

Agent0042
02-09-2004, 05:37 PM
Yeah. And I actually managed to get the first half after a lot of trying, but the second half has held me up for the longest time. And I even know where the butterflies are and stuff, but I still can't do it.

If you get Auron's ultimate wepon (The Mesurme) and power it up it allows Yojimbo to brake the damage limit... he can hit all enemys for 99,999 for me!!!

Landlord of Sector 7
03-27-2004, 02:37 AM
for the butterfly thing, I can get them all in plenty of time except for the second to last one. There are 3 butterflies on the left turn that don't move until you do making it damn near impossible to do it. And what is the trick to avoiding the lightning?

Agent0042
03-27-2004, 02:15 PM
There's a very precise pattern to the lightning that you can work out by waiting for the flashes. I personally prefer to the dodging in the area just after the Travel Agency. That seems to be the easiest place for me.

hb smokey
03-31-2004, 04:16 AM
I found it rather simple to finish the Butterfly Game. The trick I used for 200 dodges was to stay near a save point. I would dodge about five to ten bolts in a row, then go save it. But, I don't know if the count resets when you have to reset the game because you did get struck. Nevertheless, I dodged over 200 bolts without having to reset and saving plenty of times.

Sometimes on my file, the lightning would usually strike within 5 seconds of each other. Another time I did it, they would strike every 20 or 30 seconds. I can't remember which one it was though, but thats how I dodged over 200.

The Chocobo was hard at first, but once you get the controls down, its rather simple.

Agent0042
03-31-2004, 09:31 PM
As far as I know, the tally resets if you don't do 200 at a clip, if you leave and go save. Did you ever get the Venus Sigil?

I need help!!

at the thunder plains, does the counter stop/reset if u save the game? i've been following someone's advice by dodging some thenn saving, and dodging again. but when i went to collect the Venus sigil, it says in the book ( in the agency) that i only dodged 100. I remember i saw that on the first try and did it about three more times. i know that i did over 300 dodges but kept saving in between, but it only says i've gone 100 strikes. am i doing something wrong??:(

Agent0042
04-11-2004, 01:54 AM
Fire that person. They gave you some bad, bad advice. The counter resets.

Skittleo
04-11-2004, 01:59 AM
ohh Barnicles!!

u mean i have to get 200 in a row without ever saving it? damn i probably done over 400 by now. stupid save sphere.:(

hb smokey
04-11-2004, 02:45 AM
I dodged about 210 straight bolts, and I saved every few minutes. Sometimes I would dodge 5, then save...others I would go for 10, then save. I must have saved the game at least 25 times, and I still recieved the Sigil when I went back to the travel agency.

This is how I did it:

After you leave the travel agency, go up one screen. The save sphere is by the second (I think) bolt tower. I ran to the save sphere, and waited for the lightning to strike. I ran around a little bit, so I encountered quite a few battles. After every battle, which earned me about an average of 7 dodged bolts in a row, I would save the game. Then I would repeat that sequence until I had about 210. It didn't reset the counter for me when I saved it. If you LEAVE that screen that you are dodging the bolts in, I think the counter resets. I'm pretty sure that you have to stay in the same screen while dodging the 200 consecutive bolts.

EDIT: When I actually accomplished this feat, I never once got struck by a bolt, and I never once reset the game (hard or soft). But I did, however, save often. It took be over two hours to do it.

Skittleo
04-11-2004, 02:53 AM
cool thanx alot!! i'll try that next time.:)

I know where your talkin about, that's where i dodged the lightening bolts too. i would dodge 5 and then save. but whenever i got hit i would hit the reset button on the PS2. that's probably where i went wrong. Well thanx again. i hope it works this time. I want that Beak limit on that little onion knight!!;)

hb smokey
04-11-2004, 02:57 AM
Did you do a hard reset or a soft reset?

hard (pushing the reset button)
soft (holding down L1, L2, R1, R2, select, and start)

Skittleo
04-11-2004, 10:17 AM
I did a hard one. I honestly never knew there was a soft reset, until u just told me.

hb smokey
04-11-2004, 02:00 PM
Well, I would think that a hard reset would have a better chance of reseting the counter than the soft reset. Then again, I am not sure about this, since I didn't reset the game

Skittleo
04-11-2004, 05:15 PM
Phew! I did it!!:D

it took me three tries but i got 200 finally. i didnt save or reset just picked a spot near the beginning of the plains. when i got to 189 my hand was shakin so much i almost died, but it was all worth it.:)

Agent0042
04-11-2004, 08:24 PM
You got me Tiduslives. That's something I didn't think of - using the save point in that section. And using the lightning tower for shelter, more importantly. But like you said, the saves ultimately don't mean much, since you never reset. I'm pretty sure hard/soft reset is all academic. If you don't save, then nothing is saved, but either way, both would have the same effect in that resetting causes you to lose count. Now, that I'm almost sure of.

Oh, and congrats, Skittles. Have you tried the Butterfly challenge yet? That's the one I can never master.

Skittleo
04-11-2004, 08:50 PM
dont even start on that one. damn butterflies!! the time always runs out on me, its so freakin annoying. i can never pass the red ones and i end up in fights, i'll try it again later.

Right now i'm working on getting Tidus' sigil at the Calms lands ( i know, i know, i'm way behind u guys). but anyway do u guys have any hints/tips for that one?? I've been practicing for awhile but i've gotten as low as 2 secs. I'm gonna keep at it though.

hb smokey
04-11-2004, 09:39 PM
Well there isn't really much tips I can give you for this one.

I think when you are trying to finish the last butterfly game, there are red butterflies that just float there. But when you get close enough, and try to move past them, I think they move the way that you do.

This is what I did:

When I got to these red butterflies, I tried to notice their pattern. They move the way that you do. I think when I finally got past them and beat it, I went in a direction that would almost certainly look like you were heading straight into them. But somehow, I sqeaked through, and I beat it.

That's really all the help I can give you for this one right now

Agent0042
04-12-2004, 01:07 AM
Good tip, Tiduslives. I'd try it except that I've given up trying. I don't even like Kimahri.

Chocobo training? If you've gotten it down to 2 seconds, then you're good enough to get 0. Continue to have patience, stay the course on those balloons (get as many of the easy initial ones as possible) and stay away from those birds and you've got it.

i also hate trying to dodge those lightning bolts. 200 is a hell of a lot to dodge.

Getting Tidus' sigil is really hard, cz i cant even get close.

Agent0042
09-15-2004, 01:11 AM
Try roaming around some different sections and see what you come up with. Sometimes the monster catching is really quirky - you just have to be patient. If the other enemies are wasting your time, then escape / Flee from them to speed things up.

ilovequistis
09-15-2004, 06:25 PM
So I looked at my items and I did have the thing I needed for auron to break damage limit. I really thought I would remember getting that. I never did find the varunas but I don't care now! :) I sold back my capturing weapons. Now that I can Break Damage Limit with 4 of my folks I'm gonna kick some butt in the arena and try to get the rest of them.

Oh yeah, I gave up on the stupid side-quest to get Lulu's full Onion Knight, so I used a totally empty 4-slot morphing mog and made my own. It is called Soul of Mog and it is

Break Damage Limit
Overdrive->AP ( I HATE her overdrive)
One MP Cost
and i can't remember the last one, maybe Magic+20%

I will probably have to forge them for Tidus and Kimhari too, but I know I can get Wakka's.

Agent0042
09-15-2004, 08:10 PM
Okay, but just remember that any that you create yourself may seem as good as the Celestial Weapons, but don't have the same special / hidden powerup that allows the Celestial Weapons to do more damage. I'd say at least try for Tidus's --- the chocobo training is actually really annoying, but I still usually end up beating it sooner or later. The butterflies - forget them - I'm amazed at anyone that's actually able to beat that particular sidequest.

Jewels
09-17-2004, 04:56 PM
Only do the butterfly the sidequest and lightning dodging if you feel like having a complete set of Celestial Weapons. It's highly unlikely that you'll need to actually use those weapons. They are the two most annoying sidequests. Monster Capturing is just tedious and required lots of patience.

You should get Tidus' and Wakka's since their overdrives are very useful. The Chocobo racing really isn't that hard; you should crack it within the hour.

Celestial Weapons have hidden abilities, one of them being to always deal 99,999 with a regular hit (except for certain characters if their HP is low). Even if the enemy has 255 defense and Protect, it will still do 99,999.

ilovequistis
09-17-2004, 05:21 PM
Ok, so, I don't have break hp limit on anyone but Auron right now. Is that why I am not getting the max hit with the celestial weapons that I have? Heck, Auron hits about 40-50k right now, but I've only just gotten his weapon and I've been fighting in the Arena. How do you get Break HP Limit for the rest of the gang? I couldn't see where I could add it to anything. It isn't even on the list. ???

Those who want to know what really did the trick for me with the 200 lightning bolts was to count in increments of 20 meaning count 20 lightning bolts then the next one instead of counting 21 start at one again and so on and so forth. the reason i think this works so well is becuase it calms your nerves a bit and doesnt make you think its 181 it makes you think its only 1 which makes stay calm. Also dont tap the x button just hit it when it flashes and dodge in the area north of the travel agency where the road forks and youll get this done in 20-30 minutes.

Well, if you rapidly tap the X button, then you are not going to be able to dodge the lightning bolts. It doesn't work that way, and like you said, you must push the X button only after you see the flash. I said this a while back, but I just ran around a save sphere and would dodge maybe 10 at a time. Then I would go save my progress, and start over. That really calmed my nerves down, but it took a few hours because I had a bunch of random encounters thrown into the mix as well.

It doesn't reset; well, I know that it didn't reset when I saved the game. I must have saved my progress over 30 times, and as soon as I counted 200+ consecutive dodges, I received Lulu's prize.

i read online that if you save and then turn it off, you have to do it all over again. geeze i feel bad for peple who sit there and do it w.o a break, they musta had some sorta headache,

well i dont know if urs is a different version than mine or something but if i saved it would reset. and i did it without a break and i did better than when i did take a break cuz i didnt lose concentration but like i said if you count in incriments of 20 it makes it mush easier.

Well yeah, I know for a fact that if you save the game and then reset it or turn it off for a short break, then the count does reset. I had a headache after I did it, because it's not good on the eyes to stare at the screen for hours straight because you are so worried about screwing up something.

Yes, it did take me hours. Probably the fact that I ran around a lot while I was dodging, because I wanted to level up as well. The Thunder Plains are a nice spot to level up during that point in the game, so I figured I would go ahead and kill two birds with one stone. I didn't just stand there and only push the X button; I did a lot of random encounters as well. Now that I look back on it, I really wish that I had the 'No Encounters' ability equipped, so that would have made it go by a heck of a lot faster.

Chocobo race --- Try to get a good start by getting as many of the opening balloons as possible. If you don't get a good total on these, you're probably finished, so just hit the button to reset the race and try again. Be careful of the birds --- don't get so focused on the balloons that you let too many birds hit you, but at the same time, keep a good balance of balloons as well.

Flutterby hunt --- Do not do it. It is hell --- unless you are way more skilled than me, you will spend hours trying to master this and have nothing for your success. IF you do eventually do it, you get the Sigil for Kimahri and who cares --- Kimahri is sucky in battle anyway.

Dyne, in Macalania Woods South (the entrance with the save sphere), you should see a mother and her son. Talk to them and they'll talk about the father. Find the father at the campsite. There's no actual camp, it's just the site where your party had a rest after fighting Spherimorph. If you don't know where that is, after talking to the mother and son, take the right path onto the next screen. Keep walking right and onto the next screen, then take the top path. The father should be there if you talked to the mother and son.

Go back to the entrance and you should see the mother and father. Keep talking to them until they talk about their missing son. Walk up the crystal path on the left and follow it to the next screen. When you get to the fork in the path, talk to the son and he'll let you through, providing that you talked to his parents enough times. You can power up your Cloudy mirror if you talk to that plant thing. If there's a woman there blocking your path instead of the son, you either didn't talk to the parents enough times, or you're not far enough into the game.

As for Yuna and Auron's weapons, which part are you having trouble with?

To power the weapons up, you need their respective crests and sigils. You have to use the crests first, before you can use the sigils. Take them to the same plant that turned your Cloudy Mirror into the Celestial Mirror.

Easiest? I'm assuming just the earlier places since the enemies are weaker. You could try and make some species creations too, but that requires a more worldly search.

The same room you fought Yunalesca. The chest isn't actually there immediately after you defeat her. You have to go to the end up of platform, walk down the stairs and the screen will flash. You'll appear on the left of the platform. Now the chest should appear at the end to the left of the stairs. However, if you didn't pick it up just after you defeated her, then you'll have Dark Bahamut in your way. The only way to get it, is to defeat the brute.

Agent0042

You don't have to worry about Dark Bahamut though unless you have the International version.

It is impossible to finish. Do not try to finish it, you will drive yourself insane over something that isn't worth caring about anyway --- Kimahri's sigil.

It's nearly impossible without a map (http://img79.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img79&image=ultimania_butterfly3.jpg) to guide you, since you have to work out for yourself all the correct paths to take in both areas, and that alone will take ages having to fight and restart and fight and restart. Even with a map it's hard since in some corners there are multiple red butterflies and due to the camera angle, it makes it hard to judge how far they are.

The chocobo race was rough, but I didn't find it nearly as bad as the butterfly-hunting and was able to get it after a couple hours. And yeah, that same sort of thing happened to me too. blitzking's right --- happens to just about everyone, that does.

Well, Im on my second play through, and Im only in Luca right now, fixing to face off against the Goers for your first blitzball match. My first time through, the only celestial weapon I got was Rikku's to max. I had them all, but Rikku's was the only one I had maxed out. This time though, Im getting all of them.

I only finished it with Rikku and Auron`s.

Whoever concocted the stupid ways to get Celestial weapons was slightly sadistic.

Gonna try and get more on my next play through.
