Just interested in knowing what the first Final Fantasy title was the first you played? What did you think? Is that first one still your favourite, and still has a warm place in your heart?

FFIV for me (as the US SNES 'FFII'). My younger brother who was always smarter than me when it came to gaming found a local video shop that dealt in imported games, and he promptly rented FFIV for the SNES (it was not available in PAL territories at the time - this was circa 1993/94).

I remember loving every moment of it (having been already introduced to RPGs with games like Phantasy Star, Y's and Shadowrun), although back then, I also remember thinking how stupid the title was - why call it 'Final Fantasy' if it's up to four titles already? :P

Of course it was much later I learned about the FF series origins and the deeper symbolism behind the origins of the title, but still, I loved that game immensely (and I still do to this day - it's one of my favourite FF titles, along with FFVI, VII, IX, XI and Tactics).

It started with Final Fantasy VII for me, I was around 9 years old and I never played video games until I was 7 or 8, and this was also my first ever RPG. I played it and just got hooked straight away, I then ordered FF8 and FF9, the latter which was just newly being released.

I love FF7 a lot, but FF9 is the king IMO. :)

VII for me, too.

For me, VII is a really special game. I often wonder if I'd be the person I am today if I had never played FFVII. It was my first RPG, and I believe I got it the around same time as Ocarina of Time. I couldn't get to grips with the battle system at first, being so young, and preferred to play Zelda. But eventually I did try VII again, and it turned into something amazing. I doubt I can even explain what the game made me feel, and still does. It was just like nothing I'd ever experienced before.

I find it extremely difficult to pick my favourite FF. I love just about each and every one equally, for their own different reasons, but I guess when I think long and hard about it, VII still has to be my fave for being the first one I played, and the first RPG I played, and for having such a huge effect on me.

FFVII as well, but was only three or four years ago that i played it.
I liked the story and the characters and everything, but what really struck me was the music, it was the first game that i really noticed it.
I've hummed the Mario tune and songs from lots of other games for years, but this stuff was different somehow.
I've been searching and collecting VGM since, it's what got me started, so the game is special to me in that sense.

I watched my brother play VII and VIII. But he never let me touch them.
When IX came out, he bought it but skipped it because he had other games to play, so by the time X came out, IX was long forgotten.
I asked him since he no longer played the PSX games, if I could play them (I was around 9-10 when X came out). He said I could play the Spyro games (unrelated but awesome games), Tomb Raider games, and any game not named FFVII or FFVIII (I still don't know why he didnmt want to, maybe he was afraid Inwould ruin the discs or something).

Well, I saw FFIX and thought that it looked fun.
So I popped I'm disc one and I fell in love with the series from there.

Final Fantasy IV. I rented it from my local mom-and-pop video store, had no idea how to play (I didn't realize you needed to equip weapons and armor until the Mist Dragon beat me down for the third time), and wasn't sure what all those numbers on the status screen meant. But I was so struck by the music and the drama that I fell in love with it, even though I only got to the Antlion before I had to return it.

Christmas that year, I put Final Fantasy IV at the top of my list. Then my mom accidentally bought me the brand new Final Fantasy VI instead. Just as good music, just as good characters, and vastly better graphics. As soon as I watched that opening Mode 7 approach on Narshe, I was hooked. I beat Final Fantasy VI, wen back to the rental store and kept getting IV until I was done, then bought I and beat that, then followed the series from VII to VIII to IX, buying the Chronicles, Origins, and Anthology Playstation sets along the way.

it was 8 actually, but it was just a demo, so Tactics qualifies here.

It was VII for me years ago, it was around a year after it came out i was probably 7 or 8 and borrowed it from my cousin (who was stuck on the first boss). I loved it and it was so different from any of the games i had played before, the story was great, the gameplay once you had played for a while was great. After that i got the next final fantasys when they were released and the older ones that got released on ps1.

I still love it and i reckon its still my favourite final fantasy probably because of the nostalgia i feel whenever i play it again, it brings back good memories.

The first I played was X. I can't remember the order I went in after that but I remember seeing the advert for X-2 on the tv and wanting to get it. I had never heard of Final Fantasy before and wasn't much of a gamer back then (I think I was about 12 yo) so I bought X first so that I knew what was. Needless to say I was hooked and have gone on to play every game after FF7 :D

I first played a Demo of VII. It had a battle on the Gold Saucer.

I was hooked by the Battle System and the Graphics. I was a kid back then and the only RPG's that I played before were The Immortal on the NES(which isn't actually an RPG so to speak) and Diablo on the PC.

Then I played IV on a emulator on the PC. I liked it a lot as well, but couldn't finish it. It was Hard for me and I didn't understand very much about RPG's in General.

When I got the Playstation a few years later my parents bought me this game along with a Japanese copy of VIII. I've changed the VIII copy for Silent Hill.

After the English version arrived at my country I bought VIII and finished it as well. I was a little dissapointed on the storyline, but hours of fun. Exploring it's content was really something, plus the it's a Visual BOMB that game.

Then I got Chronicles and I finished both IV & Chrono Trigger. And haven't played any other FF for at least a couple of years.

FFIX was the first for me. It played it when I was in high school, the PS2 was already out but I still had the PSX and played mostly platformer games like Crash Bandicoot, Rayman, Tomb Raider, etc. I had never played an RPG. I was looking through a friend of mine video game collection and saw FVII and FFIX. I heard about the series but never played them and he said I didn't need to play them in order, they weren't simliar like a book series and suggested I play FFIX. I remember being so confused at first playing that. I didn't know what turn based was, what the numbers meant, how to equip anything or that I was supposed to. I had gotten stuck at Giz. Grotto and learned what I supposed to do. After that I played VII, then VIII then played the classics. FFIX is still my favorite FF to this day.

VII was my first, but unlike a lot of people I've talked to who say the same, it's not my favorite. Not even close. I played a lot of games prior to VII, RPGs included, so it wasn't my first introduction to RPGs. IX is my favorite. Biased opinion since I am a super sucker for nostalgic gaming.

Final Fantasy: IV (DS), four years ago. I used to be a big fan of the Kingdom Hearts series, thanks to that I started to care about Square Enix games. One day, I checked the top DS games list on GameSpot and I read their review (it was first on the rank and it got 9.0!), I knew that I had to buy that game.
My father and I went to a popular game store but they didn't have a single copy available, so I ordered that guy to call another of their shops to ask if they had the game, he did what I commanded him and he told us that just one copy was on stock (three subsidiaries, just one copy), we had 30 minutes to reach that store, I was kinda embarrassed because my father drove all the way to the other shop (at least, he didn't care). When I got the game in my hands I thanked him... After that, I was so excited! The cover looked so shiny and elegant and the pictures in the manual really impressed me... it was a beautiful experience.

Final Fantasy VI... borrowed from a workmate at McDonald's and enjoyed it. After that, found Final Fantasy IV and kinda went on from there.

It was the very first Final Fantasy. At the time, I subscribed to Nintendo Power, and they had sent to all their subscribers a full walkthrough (This one: ) and I thought I just HAD to get this game. One day I came home from school and found that game on my doorstep. I don't know who got it for me, but after I got into it, man I was really into it. Been very much into the series all the way up until X-2 came out.

My first ever was Crisis Core. It was one of my first weeks at college right after high school and still getting to know new people. I knew this girl who brought her PSP with her most of the time and on a particularly slow day, she loaned it to me. She had FF VII CC loaded and I knew FF was a pretty popular series so I selected that. I wasn't used to the controls (I was not a gamer - at all) and we kept laughing because of the screwups I made. By the end of the college day, I actually found myself liking it. Now here I am two years later with a PSP of my own and Mass Effect on the PC and that girl as one of my good friends. You could say FF introduced me to the world of gaming.

Well, as a kid I played the original NES version but I had issues with it and it making sense and I never got very far. It doesn't really count though because I never got much further then creating and naming my characters. ;) As an adult, though, Final Fantasy IX. First one I beat and I still have a massive soft spot for it.

Final Fantasy XIII was my first. (I don't really have a favorite one, ALL of them are my favorite)

Got XIII when GameStop was doing the sale (I forgot exactly what that sale was), but it's kind of similar to a bargain bin.

My first was VIII, it's still my favourite and will always be special to me

The first Final Fantasy Hero played was VII but the first one Hero beat and thoroughly enjoyed was VIII. (probably because Hero was really young when he played VII)
The first Square title that Kitty played was Kingdom Hearts, then she played Final Fantasy X, then XII, but she didn't start enjoying the series until XIII.

Currently Hero is replaying XIII for Kitty because she enjoys watching it but doesn't like playing it. Maybe one of the future final fantasies will combine the graphic, music, and story Kitty loves with a combat system she can enjoy... ^^

Final Fantasy VII still gives me warm feelings thanks to great atmosphere and music combined. Nostalgia and good memories.
