I know I'm not Cleatus... but effectively no purpose whatsoever, other than to make life more difficult for downloaders. It is a myth that password-protected files don't get taken down by hosting companies, because they never look in the files in the first place - somebody complains about the links and they get taken down.

It's also been done in the past so that people locating the RAR somewhere on the internet - perhaps through an indexing engine - would go to the trouble of downloading the file and then discover that they couldn't do anything with it because they don't have the password.

tangotreats, I get what you're saying, but whether it's two days or two weeks or two months, either it's uploaded or it's not. I can understand how it gets annoying if someone is asking for something the day a score comes out (if not before), but if someone wants to upload something within a couple of days of release, that's up to them.

Yes, it is up to them, but it really doesn't make it right. We walk a fine line between moral piracy and immoral piracy; uploading brand new albums on general release, put out by small companies who depend on the revenue of every single sale to put bread and butter on the table and get their next project underway... that's not walking any kind of fine line, it's just purely wrong on every single conceivable level. It's the sort of piracy that really does kill music.

At least wait until it's sold out so the record company have got back the maximum amount of money they can possibly get. It's Star Trek - you know it's going to sell out in a few days or weeks...

I do agree with you, you bring up some very good points. Anyway, I probably shouldn't have said anything, because this just brings up an endless debate which we've been through quite a few times on this board.

I will say, with genuine sincerity (whether people believe me or not), that I do respect what LLL and Intrada are doing here by releasing these incredible scores of all genres, and I genuinely hope that every single one of their releases has incredibly successful sales. As for me, if I had the money to do it, I would without a doubt be buying every single one of these CDs that interest me. That's a fact. Sadly, the money just isn't there for me. Not using that as an excuse, just stating a fact. (Once again, an argument that's been discussed many many times with viewpoints on both sides of the coin, and I won't continue to rehash it any further.)

Anyway, with no disrespect to anyone, thank you to the uploader.

As to the pass, I would not bother, if it were just here. But i post many of my uploads on a couple of different sites at the same time, and they all require a password be attached. So I either make a new archive just for Shrine, quit the other blogs, post here with a pass, or not post here at all. So, I post here with a pass.

Apparently. That's my understanding, anyway.

I use the stuff here for when I'm broke or want to sample or just want to get my hands on great quality Star Trek bootlegs.

I have personally bought this soundtrack as a collector, because that just me. Also I call dibs on ST: TMP Limited Expanded Complete Score this December to collide with the film's anniversary.

I do love this justification that goes "there is no rule explicitly against X, therefore X is OK" - there are some things in life which shouldn't need legislation to restrict them; basic human decency should be all that is required.

Since I can see where this conversation is going - the same place it always goes, with variations on "all downloading is technically illegal, therefore we shouldn't bother to distinguish what is morally defensible and what isn't" and "I can't afford it therefore I should get it for free"... and because I do not wish to antagonise (or become antagonised myself), I will leave it here. Well, for those who prefer 320: You can always download my FLAC (see my post # 140) and convert it to 320 - it's easy enough. There are plenty of free converter programs available. I myself use foobar.
