This is a brilliant score and Jerry Fielding's best in my opinion. Great themes which really drive this western along, track 12 "Assault..." is a real thrill of a ride.

Over the years I have bought the Japanese pressing, this one from 1997, and the 32-track transfer of the composer's personal copy (I paid 31.95, only to discover it was in mono!).

Yen i don't consider myself a fan of Fielding music, far from it actually, but absolutely adore his score for The Nightcomers. Have you ever heard it?

Westerns were on the wane by the end of the 60's, however they started to morph into cinematic metaphors beyond the standard 'White hats & Black hats', the violence of the then 'current' Vietnam war crept in. FilmMakers explored the theme of primal beauty and this one was one of the best. Classic.

Many Thanks !!!

Yes that's the one. Terrific score! The only music that i really enjoyed from Fielding in fact.
I listened some other works of him but they are too much in toward of atonality and dissonance for my taste, but the Nightcomers is nothing of that sort.

Was fortunate to see the restored film theatrically back in the 90s. Nothing like seeing a classic on the big screen, the way it's meant to be seen! This is a treat! Thanks!

Hi Sanico,

Both scores are romantic in their own ways and quite different in style - The Wild Bunch being more martial and Mexican flavoured, and The Nightcomers gentle and classical-styled. Neither are atonal, which I dislike too. I enjoy the lyricism of The Nightcomers and the thrill of The Wild Bunch.

If you ask Stampedes nicely here, he will share the latest 3-CD version with you:

Or, better still, buy it directly from Film Score Monthly CD: Wild Bunch, The (http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/cds/detail.cfm?cdID=488) to thank them for all the good work they have done over the years.
