i finished ff9 a couple of months ago, and i was surprised that after i beat kuja i had another enemy to defeat. i didnt understand why you had to kill it. it did kind of tie in with the themes of the game about existance and the point of living, but i didnt really like it. when it finally died i was left feeling like the final final battle was sort of pointless. couldnt they have implemented the theme in some other way?

This thread comes up every once in a while. Here is the link to the last one.

But you bring up an interesting point. Could the theme have been shown in a different way?

Maybe if it had still been Kuja, but possessed by Necron, and in the end he'd free himself with his last powers, and thus save the world, Zidane and the gang, but not himself anymore... Maybe I would have liked that. ^^

I actually think this is a good idea - and it would've linked things up tidier. Mind you, Necron's place in the game was completely unexpected. I kind of liked the added twist, and it did make sense with what Kuja was trying to do.

Kuja was jealous of Zidane because he was an inperfect version of him, designed only to last until Zidane himself was strong enough to take over. That jealousy drove him over the edge, and made him think "fine, if I can't live forever, and he can, no one can live any more." Sound thinking.

Necron was the entity to carry out Kuja's plan. By destroying the crystal, and hence destroying creation itself, Necron was released to do what Kuja wished. Thus your party were given a last chance: Defeat Necron, and save the Universe, or perish into the Zero World.

... I think I've explained this better in other threads, but hopefully I've made some sense... o_o

In all admittance, Necron was kind of random. But it was a good twist ^_^

Also didn't make sense for me to have Kuja as the final boss, since you already battle with him at the end of disc 3, and he was pisch. Having to face him again with the power of Necron really would be fantasy.

I didn't understand the point of Necron at all. And he quoted Yoda, which was really funny but sort of took away some of the momentum from beating Kuja, at least for me. It felt like an interuption in the storyline.

I think that the Kuja/Necron thing reminded me sort of of ff7(sorry about that just tryin to get the point across) when you beat sephiroth and then have to do the thing in the dreams or whatever. I'm sure it had a different meaning than that but I liked it because they go hand in hand and it seems like one can't be defeaten witht the other still alive.

yeah i agree that it was a nice twist and pretty unexpected, but it was kind of a let down, I mean Necron was really easy to kill, especially after all your people were completely healed and restored.

Yeah but the point isn't for it to be hard. The point is for it to show you the connection between Kuja and it. Not to really test your skills after you have already beaten Kuja.

This last battle can be quite easy, yes. Every battle can be easy when you're levelled up, have learned some useful skills. But it can also be quite hard; all you need for this battle to be really hard is the Grand Cross to hit full scale. It took me two attempts to beat Necron, because the first time Necron's Grand Cross ended the battle at once: My characters were either dead or petrified. Random status effect is such a nice thing!
The second time was tricky because Zidane died again quickly: He had Auto-Regena, and Grand Cross turned him into a zombie. :D And at times I could play with only one character and was busy curing my characters, so it was rather exciting, yay.

Well that sucks. I had something similair happen to me but I got very lucky at the end and was able to beat him.

I enjoyed having Necron as a suprise at the end. He did fit into the story, but not at a level that everyone understood. It was kind of like FF8, where the ending didn't explain the big surprise for you, but instead expected you to figure it out for your self.

Necron wasn't that easy, since he was harder than Trance Kuja. The Grand Cross attack almost killed my party, but left one person left, so I was able to revive everyone and take Necron out.

Now, everyone is saying that Necron was easy, but the recent FF games (7 through 10-2) have all been rather easy as long as you level up when needed.

As long as you level up, every game is easy. And if you care to understand and use the systems. Like junctioning and so forth.

It's silly when people complain that a final battle is too easy. I prefer this over the final battles being too hard. No, actually, I like both. But it can get a bit boring when you have to fight the same battle ten times.
