Musical score by Ira Newborn.

"You're going the wrong way. How would he know where we're going?"

"You can start by wiping that fucking dumb-ass smile off your rosey, fucking, cheeks! And you can give me a fucking automobile: a fucking Datsun, a fucking Toyota, a fucking Mustang, a fucking Buick! Four fucking wheels and a seat!"

SYNOPSIS

Two days before Thanksgiving, marketing consultant Neal Page races to catch a plane home to Chicago, only to find that his flight has been delayed. Hours later, he boards the plane and ends up next to obnoxious salesman, Del Griffith. When the flight is detoured to Wichita, the mismatched pair are forced to find their own way to Chicago-by any means necessary.

THE SOUNDTRACK

The soundtrack to Planes, Trains and Automobiles features a mix of rock and roll, country and pop.
It's hard to believe it's now 30 years old!
The frenetic musical score by Ira Newborn makes extensive use of the folk song "Red River Valley", including a rock and roll version of the song "Red River Rock", performed by British group Silicon Teens.
Among other tracks is a cover version of "Back in Baby's Arms", used during the scene when Steve Martin's and John Candy's characters wake up embracing each other in the morning. The song, popularized by Patsy Cline, is performed by Emmylou Harris.

Included in this "complete" version is a "cleaned up" version of Blue Room's
Everytime You Go Away, with the lead sung by Linda Hall (originally written by John Hall of Hall & Oates).
P.S. I've corrected an erroneous error and credited Linda Hall for beautiful vocal rendition.
And of course who could forget John Candy singing "Meet The Flintstones".

As a bonus, I've included the infamous "Welcome To Marathon" routine by Steve Martin and Edie McClurg.
I hope you like it.

Unfortunately the commercially released album was awful.
Amazon.com: Planes, Trains and Automobiles: Steve Earle, Book Of Love, Dave Edmunds, The Dream Academy, Emmylou Harris: Music (http://www.amazon.com/Planes-Trains-Automobiles-Steve-Earle/dp/B0001FFK90/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1326199425&sr=1-2)
It was made up of mostly songs that never made it into the movie.

Thanks for this. One of my all-time favourite comedies

I've been looking for a clean version of Blue Room's Everytime You Go Away for a while. Shame it wasn't ever officially released. I like it more than Paul Young's version

So where was it sourced from? The Blu-ray with the sound effects cut out?

Thanks but the link doesn't work anymore. Any chance of re-up please?

The music properties were a bit messed up. Different album names, invisible track numbers, some having album art and some not etc.

Also what's the difference between the 2 "Last Room in the Complex"s and "In the Back"s? It's good that they were included but why 2 of each?

I took a look. The "a"s are copies that can be deleted.
Other than that, all of the "cues" have been included for completeness.

thank you for you effort, i already had a home-made complete score edit, but true, this all we can get... one of my best part is john candy's listening of ray charles singing 'mess around'... truly the music, both source material & original score, are carefully chosen to fit the mood of each scene...

but not used directly in the movie. As for the other "Dialogue" tracks, no particular reason.

@spetragl I'm not sure how you "cleaned up" the version of Everytime You Go Away, but the bass drum is missing from the intro. If you look up the song on youtube, which is a pretty compressed version, you can here the bass drum and 16th note hi hats from the beginning. In your version those are missing until about halfway through the song.

The first section of this audio track came from the BluRay Rear channels (LsRs), simply because the front channels (LfRf) contained the talking in that scene.

You apparently have a good ear because that section you mentioned is exactly where they stop talking in the film and I subsequently turned off the Rear channels and mixed in just the Front channels.
Not sure why they would have mixed it this way, but the Front channels seemed to contain the Bass, but the Rear does not.

Maybe someday "Blue Room" may find the original tapes and release another version.
Thanks for the input.
