When Leopold Stokowski began his conducting career, the music of Wagner featured in his very first concert was and was to remain close to his heart for the rest of his life. In those early days, particularly through gramophone records, he introduced Wagner to a wide public with extended orchestral excerpts woven together as richly concieved tone poems and given the titles Symphonic Syntheses. In these performances by Jose Serebrier and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, these tone poems have a unique sumptuousness of sound and for those who love this evocative music gloriously played, there is much here to ravish the ear.

This is a superb recording in every way and powerful stuff to end 2011. Thanks for sharing Tri. I have taken the liberty to it convert to MP3-V0 so it can play in my car:

Wow, thanks! I always wanted more symphonic suites from the operas compiled by talented composers or conductors...this is just the thing! Naxos is going to have one more sale very soon if Stokowski lives up to everything I've seen from him before.
