SYNOPSIS

The Yule Log is a World Wide Web tribute to an annual televised celebration of the Christmas spirit. The concept of the televised Yule Log is a tradition that originally began in 1966 by New York City's own WPIX-TV.

That famous and glorious 7-minute film loop of that roaring, happy, mesmerizing fire inside that festively decorated mantel piece complimented by the majesty of some of the greatest classic Christmas music ever recorded is indeed the one and only WPIX Yule Log. It has often been imitated, but never duplicated.

Television station WPIX in New York had a thoughtful and insightful General Manager at the time who was quite noble in his own recollections of Christmas. He reflected on all those residents of the city who had never been exposed to the alluring crackle of a Christmas Eve fireplace.

Fred Thrower may not have realized it at that time, but he had just given birth to a Christmastime tradition that touched a generation.

Here it is, the complete WPIX Yule Log (unofficial) Sountrack.
So just break out the champagne, sit back and enjoy this 4 hour audio special.

Thanks to Chip Arcuri (and the WPIX Yule Log Web Site) for this info and complete track list.

Hey Spertagl, thanks for the upload. However that wasn't the late night show opening i was thinking of. The one i was trying to think of has an all animated sequence with different characters silhouetted, Charles Chaplin walking away from the camera, some western horsemen riding and shooting, a couple that kiss all with dots flashing around a theater marque. Any ideas? Been looking for it on Youtube, no luck so far.

I've re-upped the soundtrack and updated the links above in #17,
in case you want to follow the "Log" live.

Also,
I want to thank Chip Acuri for providing a new digitzed (and cleaned up) version of the Singing Angels: "Christmas Is Christmas All Over The World"; it's perfect.

Merry Christmas to all my friends out there.
And a glorious and prosperous New Year!

Thank you, thank you spetragl! This collection will keep me in good stead over the next few weeks. I don't have cable anymore, but a couple of my own WPIX staples were Star Trek original series reruns and the Fourth of July Twilight Zone marathon.

I also recall that when video games were coming to prominence, the station would give a prize to the lucky caller who could score high enough at playing a game on the air. To take an action in the game, the caller had to say, "PIX!"

Somehow the Crazy Eddie commercials only barely ring a bell, maybe because I didn't get cable at home until 1988. Years before that I'd watch at my grandma's house.

I do recall the animation mentioned by ArcadiaSSX999, though, and plan to keep an eye peeled for that.
